Verbinski a Good Host

Nov. 19, 2008by: Daniel Barna

Korea's box office champ is making like Eddie Murphy and coming to America. Gore Verbinski is set to to produce the remake of THE HOST with first-time director---he of commercial fame--Frederik Bond. The film follows a town terrorized by a giant mutant squid-like creature born of toxins that flow into a nearby river from a military base. When the creature grabs a little girl, her dysfunctional family must band together to rescue her. That's exactly how my family dealt with my parents getting separated. Unfortunately the squid won and they're all dead. That reminds me, I'm late for a funeral.
Extra Tidbit: I will definitely not see this movie as I have a devastating fear of "squid-like" creatures.

more of a "city" than a "town"

the "city" is a big deal because the family-dynamic is supposed to be juxtaposed in all this chaos of the city and the health-scare coverup...

otherwise, Gore producing doesn't make this a big deal. I care more about who's [link] ... I liked this MORE than Oldboy and im still more nervous about the Oldboy [link] are legends (especially smith, get it?...ok ill shut up), but I was more optimistic when I heard Justin Lin talking about it a year ago...i honestly think that's a worse match for ">

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Plissken. Verbinski's remake of the Ring blew the original out of the water.

Dear Mr. Verbinki,...

you should continue to make shitty overlong pirates movies, or j-horror remakes not creepy enough to fool those who knew the original. Or do good movies, like The weatherman (but since it bombed at the box-office, I'm sure you won't). Remaking The host is like remaking Old boy: trying to take $ from the pockets of a world full of morons. You should be ashamed.
P.S.: a sincere fuck you.

horrible idea, the original seemed to gets it uniqueness and overall atmosphere from the fact that the people and the government had a weird/quirky yet not unnatural Korean family quality to it. suffice it to say that that DEFINITELY will not translate into a remake that will more than likely be generic and stupid.

Well that's lame. The original is brilliant. No need for this, once again.

not a squid-thing

It's more of a lizard-fish.

So, I've been writing a novel for the past couple years, and am, at word count of average novel, balls deep. I've always wanted to write a film, but heard that novels were the best starting point these days, from numerous sources. Sweet hell, I'm going to make a fortune!
And the film industry sucks unwashed balls for considering this remake. Elohim, please allow all the major studio execs a class trip in which they all die.

This is ridiculous. There's no reason this should be remade. But of course Hollywood is going to remake everything that has subtitles, so hopefully it'll turn out as good as the original.
