Verhoeven's back!

100%
I'm a huge fan of director Paul Verhoeven and was quite upset when he decided to "leave" Hollywood in order to return to his roots in Holland (nothing against the Dutch, of course). This is the man behind such classics as ROBOCOP, BASIC INSTINCT, TOTAL RECALL and STARSHIP TROOPERS and a man who wasn't afraid of slapping an extra dash of sex and violence into this flicks. It's to note that ever since he left, the flicks coming out of Hollywood have mostly sucked the big one, but alas, hopefully he'll return one day and keep churning out the cool stuff.

For now though, let's plug his first Dutch film entitled BLACK BOOK (and no, it's not a prequel/sequel to Brittany Murphy's LITTLE BLACK BOOK), a thriller set for limited release on March 9th. Early reviews for the film have been very strong, and you can check out its trailer yourself right HERE. A first look at the poster below will show that Verhoeven still has his 'love for the ladies' on. Come back, Paul...we miss you, dammit!!! Alstublieft!!!

Extra Tidbit: Despite all of the sex in his films, Verhoeven himself has been married to the same woman for 40 years. They have 3 kids.

Graag gedaan

It's good to hear that Joblo has got nothing against the Dutch or else "vermoord ik je". Anyway I'm Dutch myself but I'm a bigger fan of his American flicks than his Dutch ones but Zwartboek (like it's really called) is a kick ass flick. Maybe he should do 1 in the US and then 1 in Holland and so on.

Nice touch on that "Alstublieft" by the way. I think you've won over some Dutch hearts. You have mine anyway.

Verhoeven's reason for leaving Hollywood was that he was getting typecast into the sci-fi/action genre, hence getting no interesting projects offered to him.

In The Netherlands he has much more creative control and opportunities, and based upon the fine quality of BLACK BOOK, it's best if he were to stay there.

Excellent

This comes out this weekend here. I'm definitely there! A war drama mixed with very real concerns about spying and the mistreatment of females... both of which are very emotional gears that if done right will spark a lot of feelings in audiences!

P.S. I always thought Paul was a pervert but hey - thanks for clearing that up too!
