VFX artist Tim Miller is set to direct Deadpool

04.08.2011

Slowly but surely it's happening with all the pieces starting to come together--DEADPOOL has a director.

Ready for some new blood? The guy in charge of helming a movie that the fans really want is VFX artist Tim Miller. Well, who is this Miller character and what are his credentials? Well you can see his visual effects in X-MEN and X2: X-MEN UNITED, and he also served as creative director on SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD.

But why would Fox hire Miller instead of going after someone with more experience behind the camera? There's nothing wrong getting a new pair of eyes especially due to the fact that the guy does have a good amount of VFX experience to contribute. Or does Fox want to use Miller, with his lack of directing experience to have more control of the project?

However, it's too early on to know how any of this will pan out. Reynolds has wanted to do the solo DEADPOOL film for awhile, so now he is getting closer and closer to getting back into the role of "The Merc with the Mouth" once more. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (ZOMBIELAND) are writing the script and Lauren Shuler Donner is producing.

I know you guys are ready for the DEADPOOL movie, so this may or may not add to your excitement.

This is one of the more comic book movies that I am really excited about. If handled with enough care and is a hard R and breaks the fourth wall and if Reynolds is still involved then this should be a pretty great movie.

The character Deadpool is such a great, funny superhero that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE not to make this anything but great.

annnnd you get thumbs down because you're giving this guy a chance... instead of getting made that Christopher Nolan isn't directing it.

lol, I agree with ya though, give this dude a shot!

its going to be pg-13, its going to have alot of other mutant cameo's, its going to be toned down, and its going to do pretty well. It won't be a hard R movie, and it won't be remembered. All of this is true, as much as i don't want it to be.

Wish granted because it's not. The script is impossible to turn into PG-13 or anything but an R. So until they throw it away and rewrite the entire script, you have nothing to worry about.

Search your feelings. You know this to be true.

this movie is years off...ryan reynolds will always be "attached"...directors will be assigned, then dropped...it'll get made w/out reynolds...it will suffer greatly from studio interference...fans will hate it...it will fail at the B.O.

Give the man a chance.

I have faith in this. Knowing that this guy was the creative director on scott pilgrim says a lot i think this guy will serve better than a big name big shot director. It will also help that Reynolds is very involved with this film. I will be upset though if this isnt a hard R film.

Never really was into Deadpool, as he's an obvious cheap copy of DC's Deathstroke.
All in all, I think it won't work as a standalone.

Hahaha. you know Deadpool was originally a parody of Deathstroke. Deathstroke, the guy everyone fears yet gets his ass handed to him pretty regularly by teenagers in tights.

Well, let's give this guy a chance. It might turn out terrible just as well with "good" and experienced director.

And, Neill Blomkamp was 3D animator before he started directing, and look where that got him. But then again, there are Strause brothers... and I'm not gonna even start with those "auteurs".

So, really, this could go either way.

Cautiously optimistic

This news didn't mean too much to me, one way or the other. For all I know this guy is the next spielberg... or Uwe Boll. I just hope the movie is good.

Meh

I guess a director has to start somewhere, but why does it have to be with Deadpool.

Netforce- Ya beat me to it. I agree with you a hundred percent. Wasn't the Spawn director one of the key guys on Jurassic?
WP-DFA- tons of good scripts get ruined by either inexperienced or bad directors. Just having a good script isn't really enough. And we're only told it's a hard R, we'll see how long that lasts til Fox fucks with it. Unless Rodriguez got it, I don't have high hopes for this.

His name is Mark A.Z. (I think it's A.Z.) Dippe. I'm not sure if he worked on FX for Jurassic Park but he might.

Well... Like most of the time, Mark AZ Dippe almost redeemed himself with the director's cut of Spawn...
But EVERY ONE has AVPR & SKYLINE in mind when they think about VFX guys directing... Forgetting another FX guy going behind the camera : JAMES CAMERON...

The guy looks good on the resume alright but I'm worried. Remember Spawn back then? The director is also a visual FX artist and the movie mainly focused on FX and action scenes and that's pretty much about that movie. Then comes Skyline. And that's it.

But it's not like he's writing the script. The script is already written and everyone from Reynolds to the studio loved it. It's hard-R, it's got the fourth wall thing, it's brutal and it's hilarious.

I'm not too worried.

Yeah, if it's really a Hard R rated, I wouldn't be worried too but let's hope that it will stay Hard R.

good resume!

lets see what this dude's got.

Just like The Wolverine was and is more Hugh Jackman's movie than it was Aronofsky's movie, Deadpool is more Ryan Reynolds movie than it is the director's, though obviously I'm not saying RR is 90% in control, that's absurd. It's just his character, his baby, the new director will try new things but you know just like Hugh would do, Reynolds won't just be like 'sir yes sir' if he doesn't like something.

Reynold's has no clout whatsoever....Jackman has proved his stake in Wolverine, regardless of the quality of the movie (X3 sucked but had a HUGE opening), in money (what Fox cares about). Until and if Green Lantern makes serious dough, Reynold's will have zero to say.

how so? Th studio's realize that the character is Reynolds and there would be no movie without him. The audiences (and especially the fanboy population) have already accepted Reynolds as their Deadpool... so yes - he does have a considerable amount of influence and power with the movie.

as for that tidbit

I standby my statement of thats not Deadpool. If I recall they call him Weapon XI and memory still serves, hes never been shown in a comic. So him being called Deadpool is some writer fuck up

yeap. Deadpool wasn't actually even in the mvoie. Wade Wilson was, and he was (supposedly) also the guy at the end of the movie, the project known as Weapon XI.

The latter

This has got to be Fox's way of keeping a tight grip on Deadpool. A film about a violent and sardonic character put into the hands of a rookie who will be getting a paycheck from Fox? This looks bad folks...

no, not at all.

Everyone knows, including Fox, that it's a hard-R script and they're ok with that. You can't really fuck with a hard-R script unless the studio tells them to put less full frontal male nudity in it.
