Vin Diesel teases "love story" for his potential role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Jul. 23, 2013by:

After ackowledging that he met with Marvel, actor Vin Diesel has kept the details of that meeting shrouded in secrecy. However, Diesel has always been a bit of a tease and has continued to let slip a few little hints for fans to play with, even if just to further speculation. In a recent interview with EW, Diesel drops yet another cryptic, but telling, tidbit that opens the doors of discussion once again, saying:

“Marvel was excited about bring a different kind of relationship, a different kind of love story, I guess kind of inspired from the Dom-Letty relationship, into the Marvel universe.”

"Love story" changes everything. I think it narrows down the roles he's been offered to either Thanos or Vision based on those two words. If he's vying for Thanos, then you need look no further than the cosmic villain's obsession with Death, or as she's portrayed in the comics, Mistress Death, a cloaked female figure often seen with a skull for a face (but has varied throughout the years). After losing all he has and succumbing to his base, evil ways, Thanos becomes enamored with this "creature" and follows her every whim and desire, which usually leads to the potential destruction of the universe.

If Diesel is gunning for the Vision, the "love story" piece is simple. Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch is in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and in the comics the two characters have quite the history, even being married at one point. Yes, she married an android. It's comics, man. That would be the obvious route for a "love story" between two characters in an upcoming Marvel film, but again, Diesel is known for being a tease and could easily be toying with all of us. However, the link between this and his prior statement, leads me to believe that the odds are in favor of seeing a red-faced Vin Diesel in a Marvel film, rather than a purple one.

Let the speculation continue...

Extra Tidbit: If it came down to Thanos or Vision, which would you rather see Diesel play? I'm for Thanos, myself.

Thanos. Only because I would love to see a Thanos solo film based on the Thanos Quest story, where he gathers the infinity gems from the Elders. That would lead in to A3. Yeah, give the bad guy a movie.

I actually really like this idea. It's different and would serve as a great introduction into the motivations of Thanos and why he ultimately wants to destroy universes and his obsession with Death.

While I may not be the biggest Vin Diesel fan there is, but I think he's pretty much perfect for either role.
Vison maybe a little bit more because I think it requires a little less acting skills. And that is not meant as an insult to mr. Diesel. I just think it would be a little harder to play a purely evil alien than an android with emotions. I think a lot would think the opposite, but that's what I think!

While most here would love it more for Diesel to play the part of Thanos, I personally would love to see him as The Vision. It's an interesting choice, and I'm curious of how Whedon and Diesel will approach the character.

Personally...

I'd like to see him play Thanos. I think between his voice and his physique, he'd be perfect for this villain. The evidence does seem like it's pointing to Vision, but I still think Thanos would be a better role for him. I could see someone like Doug Jones or Keanu Reeves playing the role of the android. Jones is capable of playing just about anything, and Reeves is pretty much only capable of playing a robot.

@ Fallon

Well, if you think Diesel can't act, you clearly haven't seen "Boiler Room," "Find Me Guilty," or "A Man Apart." He may not have a lot of range, but that doesn't mean he can't act... And as for adding a love story... You're right. That'd be the first one in the Marvel film universe.... Well, except for Tony and Pepper... Or Bruce and Betty... Or Captain and Peggy... Or Thor and Jane... Hmmm... I guess a love story does seem to be a part of the formula. The only love story that Marvel seems

Diesel as the voice as Thanos is not something I'm really behind. It just doesn't scream menacing or terrifying. Now, Diesel for the look and voice of Vision sounds appropriate. But based on the ending of The Avengers, I expect Thanos to be the one with the love story.

He could do a great job as Thanos - I don't really get why anyone thinks he's right for Vision, but I guess we all interpret comic characters in our own way.

I'm a big Vin Diesel fan...I love the Fast & Furious movies...loved the character of Riddick and the potential that is still unrealised in him but they guy doesn't half talk out of his ass sometimes. However, putting it in to context... it's all good, he's a one man marketing machine - any movie would be all the better for the way he goes about marketing his projects - I mean stuff like "inspired from the Dom-Letty relationship" like it was a romantic story of Shakespeare proportions or the way

It's clearly done him no harm so who am I to say anything - but know this Vin Baby - you sound so cheesy sometimes its just too eyes rolling skywards funny :o)

I read somewhere that Marvel was playing down the whole situation, going as far as to imply that Vin is putting on this big press to get it moving, when the studio wasnt that into it at this time.

Fingers crossed that he's just leading us in the wrong direction. I can get behind him voicing Ultron or something, but Vision or Thanos are way bigger than Vin deserves . . .

For the love of...

Why? Why must they bring in Vin Diesel? The dude can't act his way out of a ripped wet paper bag. He's played the same character in every single movie he's been in.

And why do they feel the need to add a love story? The Avengers was great because there WASN'T a big love story in it. Don't ruin a working formula!

It's Joss Weedon, so there's bound to be some sort of sappy love story... I'm honestly surprised he didn't work one into the 1st movie

Since the first Iron Man, Marvel has more than earned my trust when it comes to casting, story and direction. I'd say cut 'em some slack and see what happens.

Dom-Letty Inspired???

I'm one of the biggest fans of the Fast series, but the Dom and Letty story is the worse part of it. That is not the love story you want to base any Marvel storyline on.

If he's Vision, that could lead to his marriage with Wanda, then to their (kind of) children, then to a Disney animated Marvel film of the Young Avengers...
Obviously, I'm thinking purely business, here... NOT what I wish...
But, with the confirmation of a Disney animated Marvel movie, to have a link with The Avengers might be a good idea, business wise...

If it's Vision then we need to introduce Wonder Man (from whom Vision's brain patterns are based) into the mix. Of course if we are re-creating the origin of Ultron then the same can be done for Vision. Because let's face it, the general movie going crowd isn't really going to care to adhere verbatim to comic book origin stories.

Thanos

He's perfect for Thanos. With the right team behind him, Diesel is capable of disappearing into a role. He's just a um...Do I want to say lazy actor? Because he's only done the Fast and Furious franchise with the occasional Pitch Black sequel for the last 10 years. Hell, even xXx was supposed to be a franchise with him in the lead.

If he is infact playing one of the two roles mentioned above, I hope it's Vision and not Thanos. I've always pictured someone like Ron Perlman being the voice for Thanos.

Either way, it's still solid casting.

Extra tidbit: I'm all for Thanos either. But Love Story? Aside from The Vision and The Scarlet Witch, maybe it's Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne? I can't think of love story other than that.
