Vin talks final Fast & Furious trilogy; announcement of directors to come

09.28.2015

Rumors have been swirling around that the next FAST & FURIOUS film has had a little bit of trouble nailing down a director. It's doubtful we're going to see James Wan or Justin Lin return to the franchise (at the moment) but word is that there's going to be some big announcements to come, and that word comes from Vin Diesel himself.

Vin Diesel regarding the future of FAST & FURIOUS:

The fans of the Fast & Furious SAGA are the best fans in the world... Since I became the Producer in 2008, you have been with me every step of the way... literally giving me feedback that proved invaluable. Thank you. My producing partner Neal would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled. To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet... let alone seen a script. Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision... they have been like family... I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.

I will announce the directors on my next post...

He then posted the following a short time later:

All weekend long, my producing partner Neal, the Studio and myself have been mapping out the future of our SAGA... All aspects of the trilogy, including the announcement of it's respective directors, which is only building our excitement. I am really enjoying this process... but what gives me a unique sense of pride is that you all have been a part of it. To hear them reference the comments you contribute to Our page is truly amazing.

On behalf of the FAST Family, we thank you for making our DVD the biggest in history. We make these films with Our hearts.

Regardless of how taxing it may be to work on a FAST & FURIOUS flick, I'm sure there are plenty of action directors out there willing to throw their name into the ring. Frankly, I'm surprised Diesel himself hasn't been mentioned until this recent post. Sure, he doesn't have all the experience in the world but at this point, I'm sure the Furious audience will show up even if Tommy Wiseau's name was attached to it. Oh man, would I pay to see that!

FAST AND FURIOUS 8 is scheduled to hit on April 14, 2017.

These movies suck. Can't believe that over-hyped garbage Furious 7 has a 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. Are you fucking kidding me?

Get an old school director who needs a hit but can at least direct action. Maybe like Renny Harlin, John McTiernan, even The Wachowski Siblings, hell even bring the man who started the franchise, Rob Cohen.

I think they should have ended with 7. Walker's gone, and I feel there's not much less to do with the series.
Anyway, I think it would be interesting if they got The Wachowski's to direct. Matrix Reloaded and Speed Racer shows they know how to create some good car chases. They need a hit, and this should be a surefire bet for them.

Furious 7 was a great ending to the franchise. I'm disappointed they decided to continue it.

I've come to embrace this franchise and their craziness, at this point it's Universal's comic book world. That being said they need to get someone with some genre cred to justify continuing it in to another trilogy for the first movie, possibly a veteran action director who hasn't done a movie in awhile because of personal issues. Some one who will choose practical effects over CG, just using CG as a last resort. They don't someone who can't handle set pieces and will just want to CG the shit

Basically I'm saying make John McTiernan happen.

Why is this still a thing? How about Abbot and Costello meet the Fast and Furious?

Man...

I am at a loss as to how these movies are still making so much money AND getting good reviews, when movie like transformers and other huge CGI movies get shredded in the reviews. I mean these movies seriously BLOW, the first 3 were good, after that I dont have a clue what happened. For all you fanboys who love to destroy movies that are heavy CGI, poor on story and plot, you guys are all Hippocrates to the MAX, I mean these movies are GARBAGE man.

because unlike transformers, these movies have some sinceritiy to them and some heart. The characters are great and funny etc. You may not like the series, but it has become a pop culture phenom.

also, you should probably fact check when you accuse these movies of being CG bloated.

You really don't know CGI I guess, the funny thing is CGI is used all the time, you just can't see. You think MAD MAX was CGI free? think again, their was plenty of CGI in that.

yes no shit asshole. But that kind of CGI needs to be done. The difference between transformers CGI and FF7 CGI is they actually used cars, tossed them off cliffs etc. Transformers 90% of the time just has rigged explosions and just moves a camera across an empty canvass and CG's cars, debris etc everything in it. Get with the program man.

Get Joel Schumaker, he certainly knows how to end a franchise that'll get people talking for quite some time. lol

On a serious note, I agree that John Mctiernan is a good choice.
