Vincent Cassel & Lea Seydoux star in the French Beauty and the Beast trailer

07.28.2016

An unexpected romance blooms after the youngest daughter of a merchant who has fallen on hard times offers herself to the mysterious beast to which her father has become indebted. Somewhat familiar story line, but this French adaptation of BEAUTY AND THE BEST or La Belle et la Bête, offers up some stark contrasts in comparison to what we'll probably see with Disney's live-action iteration. Check out the following trailer featuring Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux!

Christophe Gans (SILENT HILL, BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF) isn't exactly breaking andy speed records when it comes to directing films, so I'm curious to see what it was about this story that drew him to it. Of course, the two leads are fantastic but the effects are only so-so. At the very least, this should offer up a nice substitute for those who aren't into song and dance numbers.

Christophe Gans' BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will see a theatrical run sometime in September.

C'mon joblo.

Sometimes I forget you guys hire right out of middle school, but why not try to put in some effort in your jokes. Try insulting Hilary or anyone on the left for that matter. For example, Hilary was made to play the wicked witch. See, not difficult. Trump jokes are sad and just lazy. Try harder, but don' t hurt your brains. Good luck.

Stop with your radical right wing nonsense. We know Trump is a lying biggot.

This film is average at best. Wonder why it took so long to get released in the US, I've seen it ages ago.

Looks crappy and low budget. What's even worst is the French speaking.

Saw it some time ago, beautifully shot (Gans knwos his craft) with nice special effects for a french film (except for the beast's face) though unfortunately this is not Jean Cocteau's masterpiece, it feels like an empty shell, like Lea Seydoux's one facial expression actually, she is no "belle" and it is a pity because Gans chose to focus more on Belle's character instead of the beast character like Cocteau did at the time.

This movie already came out here on February 2015.

It's bad, but not the worst adaptation of the tale (that would be 2011's BEASTLY).

I re-watch Brotherhood of the Wolf every few years, it's such a delightful mish-mash of French period piece, sci-fi, and absurd kung-fu. If this has any of that same feeling, I am down.
