Wahlberg on Payne

06.18.2008

Mark Wahlberg was talking to MTV recently about how draining playing MAX PAYNE in the upcoming video game adaptation has been. The film sees a DEA agent (Wahlberg) whose family was slain as part of a conspiracy and an assassin (Mila Kunis) out to avenge her sister's death come together to investigate a bunch of killings in New York. The duo are hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation. Here's what Wahlberg had to say about the role:

"I really had to, like... Feel it, feel it, feel it."

Nah, not really. This is what he said:

ďI read the script and said either somebody got really creative or itís actually more like a movie than most games... Max Payne is not a one-trick pony. Itís probably one of the edgier roles Iíve played but also the most layered. Hereís a very happy guy who worked a dismal job, had a beautiful family. But the beauty in his life was taken away. He just goes on a rampage. Itís all driven by emotion.Ē

That's cool I guess. But if Wahlberg thinks he's selling my MAX PAYNE ticket he's got another thing coming. I'm seeing this thing for Mila Kunis. I heard after FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, Gap started manufacturing pants with extra space in the crotch, called "Boner Breathers", so people could watch Kunis and not have to worry about being uncomfortable when they drew wood.

Extra Tidbit: Wahlberg was originally cast in the Matt Damon role in OCEAN'S ELEVEN.

Bullet Time!!!

Don't know how the bullet time combo will be handled but they have to make it kick-ass entertaining but believable, or leave it out altogether and focus more on the story giving the more generic-action flick feel. But Mark Wahlberg is a good choice for Max Payne.

Why PG-13

Loving everything about this so far except for pg-13. Video game was violent as hell!
Wahlberg can definitely pull this off though, no question.

Excellent casting here. I'm going to miss the R-rated side of it though. I think that an R-rating would give it that dirty feel that the game had, but whatever, I'm excited.

RE: TIDBIT - After his childish role in The Happening, I can totally see Mark being cast as Matt's role in Oceans, that would have been fine.

Nobody beats Wahlberg. Or Max Payne. Despite being PG-13, this will hopefully rule.

Umm sorry but I dont really think bullet time would work for the movie. I mean all really is is a way to show that Payne has "Awesome Instincts" and is able to cap fools before they even draw their gun. There's other ways of showing that in a movie.

Dude... You know. I would love this movie so fucking much... IF, it was shot like the flashbacks in "The Number 23" with Jim Carrey (Even Carrey looked like Payne in it). Pleasse, have a style like this? Anything else destroys this. Maaaaan, if it would, a dream would come true.

Wow, Wahlberg was originally cased in Damon's role in Ocean's Eleven. Hmmm. It would have been called "The Eleven Job", hahaha.

Not who I would have chosen for Payne but I'll go along for the moment. Kunis is hot as hell which is always nice but my question is...will there be bullet time?? It's what made Max Payne stand out in the first place
