Want to know why Transformers 4 will be featuring a whole new cast of characters? Hasbro has the answer

Sep. 13, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

Transformers 4 656 title

See that? That's the the temporary logo for TRANSFORMERS 4 as revealed by Brian Goldner, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hasbro. What he wouldn't reveal is if there is any real creative meaning behind the separation, if it's just meant to look different and thereby coincide with the company's "new direction" of sorts for the brand.

And speaking of new direction, we've mentioned before that TRANSFORMERS 4 would have an entirely new cast of both humans and robots without mentioning why.  Well that "why" was something that Goldner was willing to reveal, and the plain fact of the matter is that TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON didn't sell nearly as many toys as a small struggling business such as Hasbro might have hoped.  "This is why 'Transformers 4' will have a new cast of [robot] characters, and it will be a story revolving around these new characters" (which goes along with Michael Bay's recent comments).  It is believed by Hasbro that, since the first three movies shared the same fundamental Autobot/Decepticon lineup, toy purchasing simply peaked at some point because there was nothing new to buy.

So if the TRANSFORMERS 4 release date of June 27th, 2014 rolls around and you're getting all sad because your favorite Autobot or Decepticon is nowhere to be seen, it's up to you to grab all your friends and plunk down some serious cash in support of that character.  Maybe then you'll be able to see that robot in the inevitable TRANSFORMERS 5, and all will once more be well in the Hasbro toy-to-movie-adaptation universe.

Just don't buy any more Battleship boards.  Please.

Enough with Transformers!

We are so fuck. The day has finally arrived when the decision of a movie character is up to us by spending more money on the toys. This is worse than 3D prices. Even George Lucas never did anything as low as this with Star Wars toys.

Umm yeah if this movie has no Megatron or Optimus then there is absolutely no reason to watch it. I could care less if they recast the humans, but you dont mess with two of the most iconic cartoon characters ever. Hasbro pulled this shit in 1986 when they killed off Megatron and Optimus in the original movie and the backlash was huge. I hope if they do this the backlash is just as huge.

I work in a toy store part time, and I can attest that the sales have dropped since the second movie, BUT, that doesn't mean that new characters will help the box office. New toys does not a good movie make. Just stop it already.

REBOOT PLEASE

Well, part of the reason Hasbro isn't selling as many Transformers toys as they want, is because many of the Transformer toys don't, er, transform. Not to mention that're made out of crappy plastic that falls apart in about 3 days as opposed to the well made metal Transformers of the past.

I'm certainly hoping though that this represents a chance for a reboot, something a bit more faithful to the comics or cartoon, rather than a high school love story with some robots in the background.

Perhaps people aren't buying your toys because the films are SHIT

This Franchise is becoming an even bigger joke, i get the market research involved here, after all it was the same market research that lead to Transformers being made into a film. The plan was to determine what was the highest selling toy franchise ever that lead to the making of Transformers. That being said, ever since that first film they haven't focused on making a quality film. its been all down hill. You would think in order to bring this franchise back on track they would delve into

This all started with introducing new Robots in the Revenge of the Fallen..

This reasoning is totally logical. Do what you gotta do!
(And here's to hoping hasbro goes belly up so no more of these crappy movies have to exist.)

You can only make so many of those Shia action figures with that eternal befuddled look on their faces.

OH! Of course!

"We want to go in a new direction because we want T4 to be a 2 hour ad for the action figures of our new characters!"
I know that these films aren't meant to be cinematic masterpieces, but how misguided could a company be about telling a story about their "robots in disguise" on film?
I'll give them props for being upfront and honest with us about their intentions though.

That's how the title/logo looked in the 80's on toy's, posters, VHS cases etc everything. Maybe its a small hint of going back to its roots a little. As a fan of the old cartoon's I enjoyed the first movie while the other two were epic fail from where I stand. My main gripe with all 3 movies is that they were too focused on the humans instead of the robots.

Wasn't Batman & Robin movie was made with the plan to sell tie-in toys in mind? Let's hope that the new Transformers movie wouldn't suffer the same fate as Batman & Robin. As for extra tidbit, I want Wheeljack to be made in proper toy/vehicle and he must be in his Lancia Stratos rally car!
