Strike Back below!
by: Daniel Barna Jul. 24, 2009

I'm not even at Comic-Con and I feel slightly overwhelmed by it. Thankfully my Joblo cohorts have it more than covered. In the meantime, I feel like every morsel of news I cover during the fest will just be a scrap from the fest itself. Just. Like. This. One. At the KICK-ASS panel, Mark Millar--the man behind both the "Kick-Ass" and "Wanted" comic book series confirmed that the script for WANTED 2 is complete and that filming is set to begin in eight weeks. Timur Bekmambetov is returning to direct while James McAvoy will again play Wesley Gibson. Millar explained that the sequel will revolve around the international group of assassins featured in issues 4 and 5 from his graphic novel. Whether or not Angelina will show up again remains to be seen. WANTED 2 isn't even up on IMDB yet so this thing is kind of sort of fresh.

Hated It
I have seen Timur's "watch" movies, and love those, and it seemed like "Wanted" was a good fit for him, but damn, was I ever wrong! I hated that movie soo much. The fact that a sequel is coming out is just sad to me.

Mixed Bag?
I wanted to hate the first movie. I actually waited until it was on dvd before watching dispite the rave reviews. I just was a little fed up with the whole Jolie action movie thing and I hated before I saw it. Then I watched it and even though I wanted to trash it I found myself really entertained and needing to see the resolution of the film and its characters. That makes a good movie doesnt it?

I don't understand all the hating. I never read the book, but came out enjoying the movie.

It was a fun romp, plus any movie that gets Morgan Freeman to scream "Shoot this motherfucker!" is a movie worth seeing.

I'm over 14 years old, so clearly, like the first - it's not being made with my interests in mind.

Once again, I was not a fan of the 1st film and wouldn't even wimper the wet noodle for this one. The 1st of the (now) franchise was so contrived and predictable that I literally fell asleep in the theatre. Judging by the posts, I am not alone in my opinion.

This movie was atrocious. I didn't enjoy a single scene. The only decent second of the movie was when Angelina showed her bare ass. Everything else sucked.......

Wanted was probably one of the worst movies i ever seen. James Mcavoy was so freaking annoying in the movie it was basically unbearable. Thats Hollywood for you though, lets make a sequel to a very shitty movie.

Wanted was horrible. Cheesy way over the top action that was more laughable than it was good. I fail to see how anyone of intelligence would have liked the movie. Well that or anyone under 14.

Of course it's not bad you weren't a fan of Wanted.. I think this page speaks for itself when I say that most people didn't like it.

Skip the original by all means everyone... which obviously will lead you to laugh at the attempt of a sequel.

I'm still not sure why they called the movie Wanted an adaptation of the Comic Wanted... Wesley's name was the same but really they could have made the movie Wanted a completely separate film and still made the comic adaptation and been successful on both. Regardless I liked the original movie for what it was. I will definitely drag my wife to the sequel.

I like wanted but...
I can understand someone not liking it. To me I was impressed bc I thought it was going to be a mindless action movie, but turned out to have some good Office Space humor with a little fight club thrown in (humor that is). Sure the basic story was simple and the trick 2/3 through could be seen a mile away. But it was good fun.

Ugh
The first one had almost nothing to do with the graphic novel at all (which was a PHENOMENAL read, by the way), on top of it being just plain terrible. The whole "will revolve around the international group of assassins featured in issues 4 and 5" is most likely going to turn into a new group of poor actors doing cool-but-stupid action things. I really hate Hollywood sometimes...

the whole Weavers subplot was just silly it was like they tried to add a bit of Da Vinci Code to the movie or something..but everything up to that point was decent enough...so if they leave the "Loom of Fate" bullshit out of the sequel it might be good.

The first one was pretty garbage, imo. There were a couple of cool action sequences, but they weren't enough to make up for everything else being absolutely stupid. And Jolie was killed in the first, how could she be back?

I didn't read the novel, but I thought the movie was pretty good. I would definitely see the sequel even if Jolie's dead character is present.

Wanted was surprisingly good.
But a sequel? Eh. Feels like the story pretty much wrapped up, but maybe there's some more room for a bit more story? We'll just have to see.

I wouldn't say it's fresh.
I mean weren't the Wanted sequel news articles popping up as soon as the movie killed at the box office?

[link]

Regardless, this still is a worthy news article since I had no idea they were already on the fast track. The fact that filming starts in the fall is exciting. The faster the better.

I thought Wanted was awesome. Will James McAvoy filming this mean that he wont be playing Bilbo in The Hobbit, or is there still enough time to do both?

If they start filming in eight weeks (and assuming they'll be filming for the normal length of time for a movie of this scale) they'll be done by the end of the year or early next year.

THE HOBBIT only starts filming next year.

So, even though I don't necessarily think McAvoy is the best choice for Mr. Baggins, it's entirely possible he could segway from WANTED 2 into...

I'm with you on that - not a fan of Wanted, at all. The whole time it felt like the movie was trying too hard to be "bad-ass" and "cool". I know that's the point of the film - but when you can feel the film trying so hard for it, it just doesn't work. For that kind of entertainment, I'd take Crank or Shoot 'Em Up any day.

I don't think I've ever seen the F word be forced into a movie this way. The last line, where he breaks the fourth wall and says,"What the fuck have you done lately?" I wanted to vomit.
