War for the Planet of the Apes Steve Zahn Bad Ape Matt Reeves

Wow. A new extended clip has been released from this summer's WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, and I found this three minutes of footage to be astounding and captivating. The clip was released to introduce us to a new ape character, a chimpanzee called Bad Ape, who was brought to life through a mo-cap and vocal performance delivered by Steve Zahn and some absolutely incredible special effects. Bad Ape may be the most amazing display of CGI's capabilities that I have ever seen. It looks so realistic that it's almost creepy, and there's a stunning amount of emotion coming through.

This Bad Ape clip blew my mind. Check it out below and see if it has the same effect on you.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he wrote with Mark Bomback, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES has the following synopsis:

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel.  After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.  As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

Zahn's co-stars include Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval, Judy Greer, and Terry Notary.

Although I enjoyed RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, I still haven't gotten around to watching DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Bad Ape has convinced me that I need to catch up on this series before WAR brings the trilogy to an end on July 14th.

After watching this clip, there's no way I'm going to miss seeing WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES in the theatre.
