Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis Dec. 28, 2009

Being an impatient foreign-film fan, I imported the Jet Li historical epic THE WARLORDS quite a while back, and was thoroughly impressed. Particularly by the huge body count, which makes BRAVEHEART look like a romantic comedy.

Fortunately Magnolia/Magnet seems to be the new reliable source for eventually bringing action to the US from elsewhere (like DISTRICT 13 ULTIMATUM, BRONSON, ONG-BAK 2, CHOCOLATE, RED CLIFF, etc.), and they'll have THE WARLORDS chopping through screens large and small in March and April of 2010.

The synopsis: Set in the midst of war and political upheaval during the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s, WARLORDS stars Jet Li as General Pang, who barely survives a brutal massacre of his fellow soldiers by playing dead, and joins a band of bandits led by Er Hu (Andy Lau) and Wu Yang (Takeshi Kaneshiro). After fighting back attackers from an helpless village, the three men take an oath to become "blood brothers," pledging loyalty to one another until death, but things quickly turn sour and the three men become embroiled in a web of political deceit, and a love triangle between Pang, Er Hu and a beautiful courtesan (Wu Jing-Lei).

Looks good.
And he said he was done with his 'epic MA movies'

This is really more of a war drama than anything. Hardly any fighting going on hand to hand.

Looks cool...
but I remember reading an interview with Jet Li, when Fearless came out, that he wasn't going to do these types of films anymore. Guess he got bored.

What he said was that he wasn't going to do any epic martial arts movies like Hero. Yes, I agree it's a kind of vague statement as epic martial arts movies aren't what he's known for and he went on to make Forbidden Kingdom (which I loved, sue me)Fearless, The Expendables, etc.
