Warner Bros. and WWE tag team to bring you a new Flintstones animated adventure in 2015

May. 29, 2013by:

Looks like fans of both WWE and The Flintstones are about to be in heaven as Warner Bros. and WWE are teaming up to create a new, direct-to-video animated THE FLINTSTONES pic. Starring a number of current big-name wrestlers, including John Cena and CM Punk, the animated pic will seemingly mix in the regular characters with new, prehistoric versions of the famous wrestlers.

Here's the description from Deadline:

"Here, fixtures of the 60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon including Fred and Barney will be joined by WWE staples including Vince McMagma (voiced by Vince McMahon) and such WWE superstars and divas including John Cenastone (John Cena) and CM Punkrock (CM Punk). They will take part in a prehistoric WWE main event."

Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios, gave the standard rundown on the venture, saying:

WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros on a Flintstones/WWE project was a natural extension of our Scooby Doo deal. This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike.

I know there are a lot of WWE fans out there, so perhaps this holds some level of excitement. I checked out of wrestling back in the days when Hulk Hogan was the main event, so I'm certainly not hip to what's going on in the ring these days. However, I will say, as I did when the joint Scooby-Doo venture was announced, that this just seems like such an odd pairing for wrestling. I mean, I really don't get it. Not to say there's anything wrong with it, but it's just a strange venue for men (and women) who break chairs over each other's heads.

THE FLINTSTONES/WWE animated pic is expected to hit stores sometime in 2015.

Extra Tidbit: No word on The Rock being involved, but it may be too soon to call it. He is, after all, a busy man.

CM Punkrock? You do realise you're about two months late for April Fool's Day right, WWE?

I don't see the problem. Scooby Doo and Flintstones have always been similar in certain ways, and WWE is capitalizing on their steady rise in Hollywood territory. Sure, they aren't the hardcore, controversial pop-culture phenomenon they used to be, but this seems like a logical step in their family-friendly venture. Silver lining: wrestlers live longer and don't have to blade themselves anymore. Anytime I know my favorites are happily retired and living a healthy life, I'm happy.

Fail

I pretty much just tolerate WWE stuff now as it is...but if you're going to attempt to ruin the good name of an iconic animation series then I can't let that go without comment. Why do this? Hey, here's a novel idea, WWE..how about an ORIGINAL idea?

Ummm

wut? So what every other cooler animated series turned them down? What appeal having the wrestlers of the WWE appear in a new animated Flintstones movie escapes me.

If you're desperate for a fix of Hulk Hogan he's currently GM-ing on TNA Impact Wrestling, which I believe is on SPIKE TV in the US. His regular back surgeries and advancing years means he doesn't really wrestle anymore, but if hearing him incoherently set up matches and call people "Brother" is your thing, that's where you'll find him.

Another thought

other than fruity pebbles, are the flintstones even relevant anymore? I mean, i know this is intended for a kids demographic, but how many kids are still big flinstones fans?

Too dumb to really make fun of, right? And if others, including even Spielberg, have failed at reviving them, why not let the WWE give it a shot.

Is Bam-Bam Bigelow still alive?

Nope

100,000 to 1 odds that there's a CM Punk pipebomb (or Rock Bomb) in the movie.

And how could the rock not be involved? Just imagine all the "rock" puns they could put in this thing.
