Warner Bros. developing nine other movies based on DC Comics

Apr. 29, 2014by: Jesse Giroux

The Wall Street Journal is reporting Warner Bros. is developing nine other DC Comic adaptations besides Zack Snyder's BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and the just recently announced JUSTICE LEAGUE. Not every movie in the works will be part of DC's cinematic universe though, and at this point we only know about a few of these projects.

Last year we learned FABLES might be heading to the big screen, as well as Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN with Joseph Gordon-Levitt producing. There's also Peter Segal's SHAZAM project, however it doesn't sound like Warner Bros. is moving forward with the director's plans for the character. The studio is also working on adaptations of 100 BULLETS and METAL MEN. Some have speculated we could be seeing a WONDER WOMAN movie soon, however The Wall Street Journal says it isn't one of the films being developed at this time.

So what are the other projects, and how many of them will be connected to JUSTICE LEAGUE? We still don't know what Dwayne Johnson is doing with DC, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are attached to produce an adaptation of SLEEPER, and Guillermo Del Toro still wants to do JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK. I guess the bigger question is how many of these planned projects count towards the eleven total DC films being developed by Warner Bros.?

Zack Snyder's BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will be in theaters on May 6th, 2016, and JUSTICE LEAGUE will likely be released sometime in 2017.

I am glad Warner Bros is taking advantage of their DC comic properties and making more movies out of them. I hope all nine are made.

Wow!

This article asks the question, "What projects are DC developing?" and answers, "We have no idea."
Which begs the question, why write this piece at all?

Seems like DC/WB is determined to separate themselves from marvel. Just when you think they'd focus strictly on well-known superheroes.....they go and develop other things entirely. Maybe DC is anticipating superhero films to start losing steam in the next few years -- which, given the amount of movies every other studio is churning out seems totally believable -- and want to start developing other projects. They missed the boat, they know it, and will be the first ones to hop on it when it's

We'll believe it when we see it, also if they turn out to be 9 Jonah Hex's or Green Lanterns then they can keep em.

They've got a great cast full of young and veteran actors, the ultimate super hero duo movie, and now the most important heroes in the DC universe coming together for a film. Godspeed!

WB says they have nine films in development, but possibly, we could see none of them see the light of day. I still get this feeling that WB doesn't know what the hell they're doing and is heavily relying on Snyders direction. It seems Goyer is completely out of the picture and now Afflecks writers are a huge input. Still very optimistic, obviously.

and you think Metal Men will clearly tie into the Bat/Supes universe and help bring something to the table that, say, Suicide Squad or Deathstroke or Doom Patrol couldnt?

Well good luck to all you DC fans, but with a track record that includes Superman 3,4,Returns,Green Lantern,Batman and Robin, they have a lot to prove.Frankly all I care to know about are their plans for Batman.

It's strange given the success of the DC animated universe (everything up to JL Unlimited, I think) that WB's didn't do what Marvel are doing first with regard to a cinematic universe. Disney are f**king up the Marvel animated universe with that piece of turd that is Ultimate Spider-Man in addition to cancelling Avengers, Earths Mightiest Heroes and Agents of Shield still has some way to go before it catches Arrow in terms of awesomeness (it's improving...mind you)... so why have WB's handled

Actually it is kind of going the DCAU way. You had Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated series, The Batman Superman movie and then straight to Justice League. JL is when you first met Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Flash (except for an episode of S:TAS) and Hawkgirl. So it's actually not that different.

There's a whole stable of characters that will work across a range of genres and budgets. They shouldn't try to make everything the next Dark Knight, that's a first step.

DC has the worst track record so far...

DC makes some AMAZING animated movies. If they can somehow find a way to put the same amount of effort into their live action movies, they wouldn't be shoveling shit like Green Lantern at us. Get Bruce Timm involved with EVERY DC movie from now on. The guy is a god among producers.

Tim Burton's Batmans, Nolan's Batmans, Donner's Supermans, Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter, and for those of us on this side of the argument I'll throw in Superman Returns and Man of Steel. Worst track record indeed.....

This will be exciting when the movies being turned out are good. Man of Steel makes me remsin skeptical until that point.

On one hand, I'm glad Warner Bros. is finally stepping up their games. However, don't bite more than you can chew, Warner Bros. Let's see how Batman/Superman movie turns out.

Would love for DC to finally do films on Green Lantern (again), Flash, Wonder Woman, Lobo, and Justice League Dark.

The Sandman film sounds pretty awesome too.

RUMORS, GOSSIP AND A FEW FACTS BUT THE TRUTH IS...

Warner Brothers has tons of great source material but little to no idea how to develop it to the point of being anything close to how Marvel is being spoon-fed to the cinematic audience. Sony and Fox seem to have a clue and may be partnering with the X-Men and Spidey (since he is a Mutant), it makes sense. But it seems over at the WB, they are woefully lost or are they just being coy and waiting until the Marvel universe implodes under the weight of its characters. There has to be a

There has to be a saturation point for the Marvel Universe but who knows. WB has had DC for decades and even after the success of the original Reeves' Superman, there was no huge capitalization other than a very campy Batman. Flash, Wonder Woman, AquaMan and a slew of other well loves characters seem to sit on the self and collect dust much like fanboys' action figures.

Spiderman is not a Mutant. In the Marvel Universe, you have to have the X-Gene to be a mutant. Spidey is a mutate, meaning he was mutated after birth (much like The Hulk, Captain America, etc.). Mutants are born with the X-Gene. Peter Parker was not born with such.

It sounds like Warner Brothers finally have their shit together. Marvel/Disney, Sony/Marvel, and Fox/Marvel are finally gonna get some serious competition from DC. This is really great news. Also, 'Justice League Dark' by Guillermo Del Toro? Sign me the f*ck up!
