Warner Bros. sets a 2017 release date for Christopher Nolan's next film

09.08.2015

When your filmography consists of several movies which has grossed over a billion dollars, you can pretty much write your own ticket when it comes to the type of films you'd like to make. Christopher Nolan (INTERSTELLAR) has definitely found himself in that situation after the incredible success of his Dark Knight trilogy and has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with Warner Bros. as a result.

That relationship will continue as Warner Bros. have announced the release date of Christopher Nolan's next film and, in keeping with Nolan's penchant for secrecy, that's all we know about it. The untitled Christopher Nolan film is scheduled for a July 21, 2017 release. That's one week after WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, one week before Marvel/Sony's first SPIDER-MAN film, and the same day as PITCH PERFECT 3 and Luc Besson's VALERIAN.

Two months ago cinematographer Will McCabb tweeted that Christoper Nolan has finished a "comprehensive draft" of the screenplay for his next film, but that tidbit of information and the release date is really all we know about it so far. As this is a Christopher Nolan film we're talking about, it almost doesn't even matter what genre it could be or whether it will be an adapted or original idea, we'll most likely be discussing every little detail ad nauseam.

I love Nolan's transcendent themes in his films. No matter what he makes next, what I appreciate is that he will make me think. Something that I'm sure that the movies in July 2017 will not.

My favorite Nolan film is Inception. I love the dialogue about "ideas", and the world he created still intrigues me.

I'd watch any film of Christopher Nolan. Extra tidbit: Inception.

I still lean with Inception as my favorite Nolan film. Interstellar is right there and The Prestige in my mind is still vastly underrated. I loved the Dark Knight trilogy, but have come to a point of separating it or almost considering that a standalone story in and of itself. Is Nolan my favorite director? No, but he's taking pages out my favorites like Sir Ridley and Michael Mann and that in my mind, it A.O.K. Something tells me Nolan still haven't given us his best yet in his career and he's

The I's Have It

Both Inception and Interstellar had me excited years before release and did not disappoint. I'm sure I'll get super revved up for whatever is up his sleeve. My favorite Nolan is The Prestige.

even if Interstellar was a bit disappointing...

... Christopher Nolan remains the most exciting director to look forward...
My favorite Nolan : BATMAN BEGINS
I hope he will surprise us with something he never has done before : a war movie, a drama, or why not a rom-com (just kidding) ?

Please be better than Interstellar, but these secret projects are getting tiresome.

The film is cowritten by Jonathan Nolan, and to be partially filmed in IMAX with returning Director of Photography Wally Pfister. The Score will be by Hans Zimmer, with Special Effects by Chris Courbold. Michael Caine will return as important supporting character.

All of these things are simultaneously speculative, and confirmed.
And it's that kind of vaguery that you can expect
in Christopher Nolan's new film.

YES!

Nolan news always makes me happy. I think he should stick with an original concept, although I'll be seeing whatever he makes of course.

Would love for Nolan to reteam with Guy Pearce again. Memento is still my favorite Nolan film (tied with Batman Begins), and I always wondered why the two haven't recollaborated on a film since.
