Warner Brothers does a babality on Mortal Kombat, reboot time!

You secretly knew it was coming…

Warner Brothers is looking to reboot MORTAL KOMBAT with screenwriter Oren Uziel. Uziel’s screenplay for SHIMMER LAKE got a spot on 2009’s black list, which displays the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood.

Mortal Kombat is my favorite fighting game, so I have a soft spot for the first movie that was released back in 1995. It was cheesy, wonderful, and Christopher Lambert played Raiden. I know it wasn’t the greatest video game to movie adaptation, but I can’t see it getting any better. For some reason, I also don’t see someone like say, David Fincher picking it up. They will probably get some sub-par director (pick any of them) to do it. Paul W. S. Anderson helmed the first KOMBAT film. Say what you will about him. He’s cool in my book because of EVENT HORIZON.

My question is, whatever happened to MORTAL KOMBAT 3? It was supposed to film last September and we haven’t heard anything about it since then. Did they give up? MK3 was under the WB umbrella, so I’m guessing they are going to scrap it.

What would you like to see with the reboot? Perhaps make it more gruesome? All I ask is that they do an epic Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion fight again and throw Baraka in it.
