Watch Arnold fight Schwarzenegger in this new clip from Terminator: Genisys

06.23.2015

Those of you on the fence about TERMINATOR: GENISYS could be thrown clearly to one side or the other by this latest clip from Alan Taylor's rebootquel to James Cameron's classic THE TERMINATOR. We have known since last year how the new film would connect and change the events from the original movie with hints in trailers as to a showdown between the old and young versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800. Now, in a new clip from TERMINATOR: GENISYS, we see how that confrontation goes down.

In the original scene, the three punks were played by Bill Paxton, Brad Rearden, and Brian Thompson. There was also a classic line of dialogue ("f*ck you, asshole") that now appears to have been PG-13eened out of the new timeline. While I had originally hoped that Alan Taylor would have used the original scene and used special effects to segue it into the new footage, it instead appears that the entire sequence has been shot over again with new cast.

While we only get a snippet of the physical showdown between the two Arnolds, I am already bothered by the CGI work here. If the same team behind the work on TRON: LEGACY had been used here, I may have been convinced, but this just looks weak to me. And why the hell is the T-800 so fast now? This clip creates way too many questions and none of the good kind. I just hope in context the scene plays out much better than it does here.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS opens in theaters on July 1st.

Wow, he suddenly turned into a flesh colored version of Hulk from Ang Lee's film.

They worked really hard at making young Arnold believable, where's the young Bill Paxton? I wonder if the producers even knew that Bill Paxton was in the original scene?

I hate that this film sold itself out of an R-rating for a sugar coated PG-13 rating. Almost as much as I hate the casting of Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, they bare no resemblance to each other. Those shotgun hits should've at the very lease inflicted fresh damage to the Terminator's outer skin. Or at least use the same great PG-13 style makeup effects they used on Arnold's face in T2 when he took all the machine gun hits from the police.
The scene actually looks good, it's almost a mirror

The scene actually looks good, it's almost a mirror image of the original scene. Really good cinematography to pair both the new with the old. I even think the CGI placement of 1980 Schwarzenegger Terminator is very convincing. I think the showdown fight scene will end up looking as out of place as the fight scene between the Terminator and the T-X at Skynet in Terminator 3. What this scene is missing is Bill Paxton. I would be way more impressed if they got the punk dude to look like or actually be 1980 Bill Paxton.

I thought the young Arnold CGI looked pretty good. Way better then the Tron stuff.

Bit unfair considering Tron Legacy's CGI is now about 5 years old.

plus they had the James Cameron version as reference in terms of real life model and lighting.

So when Reece shot at the terminator in the first film with a shotgun , The Terminator went down. Now all of a sudden the Terminator can withstand shotgun shells?

The first time Kyle shot the Terminator at point blank with his shotgun in the original film, the Terminator was caught completely off guard. At the very lease the Terminator is reacting to the force of the shotgun hits.
My complaint is those shotgun hits should've at the very lease inflicted fresh damage to the Terminator's outer skin. Thanks a lot for the PG-13 rating fucking Paramount! Actually it would not even need to be brutally violent. In T2 when Arnold took all the machine gun hits

Agreed Conman, but since when have science and films gone hand in hand. Even the T1000 went down in the mall scene in T2.

I'l say it again, we ALL owe McG a huge apology. The guy made the third best Terminator film. It wasn't perfect, but it was not the travesty everyone acts like it is. Had they gone with the original ending, I think we would have had a very different reaction to the entire movie. And the CGI Arnold actually looked better.

This actually made me excited for the film

I thought the effects in this would absolutely SUCK based on the first trailers and this scene in particular, but this clip shows they have continued to work on the CGI and I really think it is fantastic here, given they might still be tweaking it, one of my concerns may have actually been eased a little.

That Bill Paxton replacement punk does not cut the mustard

All of the replacement 'punks' just don't deliver their lines with the same enthusiasm as the original group. I'm still seeing this movie. I love Terminator 1 and 2 and I like the concept behind this movie even though I agree with many people that the execution may end up being piss poor.

Still looks like the movie will be better than T3 & 4

It's very well done, and CGI has come a long way. It only looks fake at certain parts IMO, like when young Arnold turns his head to see old Arnold. It's too bad they couldn't literally utilize the original footage and splice it with the new (since it's literally the same scene till Guardian shows up.

The big issue is, WHERE'S ARNOLD'S PENIS??

Once again Alex Maidy with his opinion

that we didnt ask for. Oh theres no F bomb. Well including this clip. Every piece of movie clip promotional material ever released for every movie almost EVER has trimmed these scenes down to give you a bare bones idea. For example....the FUCK YOU ASSHOLE might still be there because there is a quick cut and you can see a knife at the bottom of the frame when you hear arnold say "you wont be needing them" which means we dont see them pull it out and threaten him with it. This is a constant

This is a constant problem with Alex, everytiem I read an article and think "wow what a dumb article" i look up and low and behold....its Alex. Anyways, reviews are coming out for this movie and apparently its not the disaster we are expecting. Better than T3 and T4, not as good as T1 and T2 which is what I was expecting. Apparently its on par with Jurassic World.....Good...not Great (unless you're one of those nostalgic guys who cant stop gushing over Jurassic World being the greatest movie every and breaking every box office record in history somehow influences your life.)

and further.....you don't remember the Terminator being Fast? ummmm rewatch Terminator 1 after the Tech Noir scene where he is SPRINTING after Kyle and Sarah until an explosion happens and he jumps on the hood. Pretty much the same speed here. If you're going to complain about something......make it legit please.

I could not agree more. I have started checking the bylines to avoid articles by "Alex Maidy" all together. I only clicked on this one to watch the clip.

Dude check your history first Arnie is a huge guy and in the first film he is shown running fast not sprinting and he moves way differently to this - I have to agree with the editor here why not re-use the original footage??

Shotgun blasts do nothing now?

I remember Kyle Reese using a shotgun very effectively against the T800. But apparently with CGI comes some kickass buffs?

physics isn't your strong suit is it? While it does look meh, a 500 pound endoskeleton running with FORWARD momentum will be a lot harder to shoot onto its back compared to one just standing still. Weight + Momentum = aaaaaaaah yes...science.

I need you clothes, your boots and a gun to blow my own head off

This looks utter turd, apart from the obvious problems this film has - characters looking nothing like counter parts the main issue being a bulked up Kyle Reese, this is one of the most iconic scenes in the first film - I too have to hate on the fact the original scene is not used and agree with the comments about suddenly how fast the T800 which makes no sense at all given in the first film he is shown running normally chasing Sarah and Reese down the alley way :( I wish they had just left it
