Watch Isaiah Washington as the DC sniper in the chilling first trailer for Blue Caprice

08.15.2013

You may not have heard news on the film its based on, but I'm sure that many of you know about the DC sniper attacks back in the early 2000s. John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo shot people at random in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

The official 2013 Sundance Selection gives a disturbing portrait of the events with a focus on Muhammed's relationship with the young Malvo. Isaiah Washington leads the film with this portrayal as Muhammed which is sure to bring him acclaim. Watching him take in Malvo and treat him like a son only to eventually use him as a pawn in his terrorist attacks against innocent people is terrifying.

Inspired by true events, BLUE CAPRICE investigates the notorious and horrific Beltway sniper attacks from the point of view of the two perpetrators, whose distorted father-son relationship facilitated their long and bloody journey across America. Marked by captivating performances by Isaiah Washington and Tequan Richmond, lyrical camerawork, and a unique and bold structure, BLUE CAPRICE documents the mechanisms that lead its subjects to embrace physical violence. BLUE CAPRICE paints a riveting portrait of 21st-century America and a haunting depiction of two cold-blooded killers that endures long after the lights come up.

BLUE CAPRICE hits theaters September 13, 2013.

Too soon...too scary...

I lived through this shit...fearing for my life every time I stopped at a gas station. Fuck these evil bastards and it's way too soon for a movie about them. Too painful still.

My aunt lives in Maryland just outside D.C. I remember her talking about the sort of paranoia it created for basic things like getting gas. I also remember at one point police thought a white pick-up was involved.

Telling the story from the killers perspectives is an interesting approach to what could (and has before), been made as a more tabloid-esque police procedural. I'm glad to see Isaiah Washington in such a high-profile role. He's always had a way of conveying deeply unsettling

Watched a tv doc on this a couple days ago. Was chilling stuff, with Muhammed being particularly creepy. What blew my mind was the motivation. He wants his kids back so he decides to take Malvo and go on a completely random killing spree so that when it came time for him to kill the ex wife it would seem as random and not lead back to him. Insane.

It was ruled by a judge that there was insufficient evidence to support that claim.
