I remember wanting to post this story about a week ago when it first appeared, but somewhere in between begging my ex to take me back and drinking myself closely to death because she wouldn't, I must have forgot. But today, amidst all the WATCHMEN casting news and the release of the official HULK synopsis, I bring you a precise combination of those two stories: the official WATCHMEN synopsis, straight from Warner Bros:

Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" – which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the Watchmen?

And there it is, people. This movie is happening, for reals.

John Cusack...

Looking at the credits at the bottom, it looks like whoever made this poster is imagining John Cusack at Night Owl and Ed Norton as Rorschach. Ed Harris is Dr. Manhattan and the girl is Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Nice, I hope this is done in time for a summer '08 release. It's supposed to film until February, and post-production could take a while.

Sounds great, I'm glad they didn't try to "reimagine" the storyline. Can't wait to see Rorshach on the big screen.

yeahhhh

I'm glad it's identical to the story, no modern day version, straight 1985. Although I still have trouble figuring out how they'll squeeze everything in there.

Is that Ed Harris as Doc Manhattan? I can't tell who's in the Night Owl mask, if there is indeed a specific actor under there.

The tagline for this film should read: "The End Is Nigh." That would be bitchin'.
