Watchmen updates

Nov. 10, 2008by: James Thoo

Dark Horizons have a cool discussion with Zack Snyder about WATCHMEN over HERE. In the talks, Snyder discusses everything from working on the soundtrack, to the film's running time. He also talks about the reaction from the recent test screenings, saying:

"We had the best test scores in the history of Warner Bros. with '300' and I kept telling them look the movie is not like 300, don't think that it is - it's not going to be the same experience. Some people are going to go 'what the f**k is this' and I go that's ok. That's the thing that you fight... The one thing that was cool was that anyone who had read the graphic novel who was at the screening rated the film 'excellent', for me I'm like 'I'm done'."

Let's face it, after this is done Snyder is gonna be able to greenlight whatever the hell he wants. And I'm not saying power is something everyone should abuse, but someone should, right? James Cameron and Peter Jackson and all those guys should continue to make great films where possible, but someone, just someone, should take their power and make a silent piece starring Carrot Top about a dude born with koala bears for feet, or something. Just because they could. I think that would rock.
Extra Tidbit: I love Simon Pegg but I'm glad he isn't playing Rorshach as was possible when Greengrass was directing.

The man's great

He's part of the real new wave that will replace Spielberg. He really is.
A Morrissey video, a remake of Dawn that could of sucked but mercifully didn't, and of course 300. The guys got mainstream directing chops, you gotta give him that.

Whoa, Pegg was going to be Rorshach? No. Love Pegg, and he's a great actor but thank God.

it will be very different from 300 but of course will have the Snyder stamp on it. He knows it will do well, and I think everyone else that's seen the trailer is just as confident.

That SOUNDS good, but if the other news about the changed ending remains true this movie still won't do the novel justice. I don't have high hopes but I do hope I'm wrong because a great Watchmen movie would be amazing.

To PuffCity and NO_FUN...

I like your posts!!

This is coming from a Peter Jackson fan; and someone who had mixed feelings about 300 once the hype died down.

Aside from all that, I'm looking forward to Watchmen.

It better be different to 300

It bloody well should be better than 300 (which sucked by the way, end of story), Its a totally different graphic novel and the film needs to be dark and serious. We're not dealing with WWE:the movie here, Watchmen is pretty gritty and hard hitting, its not for everyone and Snyder shouldn't be watering it down for a mainstream audience, it should shock and horrify and leave some people baffled and confused.

First good news I've heard about this movie.

TRUE DAT PuffCity

300 was cool...Watchmen should be good...but to compare Snyder to these other directors is uncalled for. Before this can happen, I think it would require Snyder to make a film that's crowning achievement isn't almost duplicating someone else's work panel for panel. I'm not taking anything away from Snyder. Guys got skills...but Cameron or Jackson skills or studio pull? No way. Besides the fact that Watchmen is going to go way over peoples heads and is going to be one of those movies with a big

I have to say out of all the comic book movies to ever come out Snyder has taken everything from the graphic novel and made a true comic book film out of it. As much as I love the direction of Cameron's batman I would love to see Snyder's interpretation on a batman graphic novel

Don't mean to be a prick, but IN MY MIND, Jackson and Cameron have not continued to make great films. Sure Lord of the Rings was great, but King Kong was pure shit. And I haven't liked a Cameron movie since T2. Now, I do recognize their stature in Hollywood, and to think that Snyder can achieve that by doing 300 and Watchmen is ridiculous. He needs Academy Awards, really big grosses (in the magnitude of LofR, Titanic, Jurassic Park) and overall recognition. So far, he only got the fanboys in
