WB plans for Plame

Warner Bros. has signed a deal to develop a film based around the Valerie Plame scandal. The studio has secured the rights to Plame’s story and the story of her husband Joseph Wilson. Should the CIA approve Plame’s planned memoir “Fair Game,” the planned film would be based on that book. If you haven’t heard Plame’s story by now, it’s a complicated one but I’ll try to break it down for you real simple. Wilson was ready to say there was no credible evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, discrediting the United States’ war efforts. This did not make Bush officials happy. They sought to discredit Wilson and leaked info to the New York Times that including outing Plame as an undercover CIA agent. Oddest thing about the movie version? It’ll be produced by Jerry Zucker of AIRPLANE! and NAKED GUN fame. “Surely you can’t be serious, Mr. ‘Scooter’ Libby.” Weird but Zucker got to know Wilson and Plame through work they do together promoting stem cell research. Jez and John Butterworth (THE BIRTHDAY GIRL), my favorite screenwriting brothers that includes a sibling named “Jez,” are currently working on a script.
