We now know the title for The Hobbit Part Two and the release date for The Hobbit Part Three

I’ll keep this short, unlike the film adaptation of THE HOBBIT.  Zing!*

Part One is still THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY – expect it on December 14th of this year.

Part Two is now THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG – expect it on December 13th, 2013.  This goes along with certain recent comments from Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor providing both the voice and motion capture for Smaug himself.

Part Three is now THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN – expect it on July 18th, 2014.

The following statement on the matter comes from Dan Fellman, Warner Bros Pictures President of Domestic Distribution: “We wanted to have a shorter gap between the second and third films of The Hobbit Trilogy. Opening in July affords us not only the perfect summer tentpole, but fans will have less time to wait for the finale of this epic adventure.”

And epic it shall most surely be. Remember that Jackson isn’t just stretching “The Hobbit” itself into three films, but rather packing the story full with bits and threads from Tolkien’s appendices.

THE HOBBIT trilogy was/will be shot in 3D 48 frames-per-second, and can be seen upon release in High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D, various other 3D formats, IMAX, and 2D.

*Outside of the one viewing in cinemas, I’ve only ever watched the LORD OF THE RINGS films in Extended Edition form, and that’s the only way I’ll ever watch them.  But I also know that there are people who disagree and are not enthused for Jackson stretching out the story like this – I’m just not one of them.  I’m very enthused.  Extremely enthused.  Probably unhealthily enthused, in all honesty.
