Well, this is an awesome surprise.

It looks like director Werner Herzog will get out of the helmer's seat to get in on the action. Herzog is playing the villain in the adaptation of Lee Child's ONE SHOT.

There were no comments on exactly why Herzog was chosen other than the fact that screenwriter on the project Christopher McQuarrie wanted to work with him. Herzog will play, "The Zec, an ex-prisoner of war who arranges and stages the killing and is the head of the conspiracy."

This is Herzog's first actual on-screen acting role. He has made several cameos and even lent his voice to the character of Walter Hotenhoffer on an episode of THE SIMPSONS. What's funny is that initally he thought that the show was a newspaper comic so he was surprised when he was asked to voice a character.

For those of you just tuning in to all things ONE SHOT news, Cruise is playing Jack Reacher who, "investigates the case of a sniper accused of murdering five people before being captured."

Extra Tidbit: Werner Herzog reads "Go the F*ck to Sleep".

Nice casting, but I sure hope the description of his character isn't a spoiler.

As much as I hate Jack Reacher, a Goose...is a very, very troublesome animal.

DMM

Well this pretty much guarantees that I'm seeing this Cruise action flick. Casting can't be get more awesome than that.

PS: Herzog played a priest in 'Mister Lonely'. Though the film is forgettable, he was easily the best thing in it and it was definitely an on-screen starring role.

Wrong

Herzog played "The German" in the poker comedy "The Grand". I believe his character was too important to the plot to be only considered a cameo. Yes, the character was majorly built on his actual personality, but he wasn't officially playing himself :P

Still, this is pretty awesome news. Nobody naturally scares the shit out of me more than Herzog...

Werner was pretty entertaining playing himself in Zak Penn's mockumentary 'Incident at Loch Ness.'
