Wes Craven to begin shooting Scream 4 in the spring

Mar. 23, 2010by:

The horror sequel that no one asked for has been greenlight and will begin filming this spring. No, not SAW VIII. And no, not HALLOWEEN 3 either. SCREAM 4 will begin filming next month with Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox all reprising their roles from the first three films. Wes Craven will direct from a script by Kevin Williamson.

What exactly the plot of SCREAM 4 is remains to be seen but it's noted that the starring trio will be joined by a group of younger actors. I'm gonna guess that some of the new characters are related to Campbell's Sidney (a cousin maybe?) to allow for some kind of link.

I remember the original SCREAM film fondly but never connected at all with the subsequent sequels. This fourth film seems like an obvious cash grab and I'm surprised Craven is taking part. Wasn't he the guy who was furious with Dimension over how they treated him on CURSED? Why does he think this experience will be any different?

SCREAM 4, which I can almost guarantee will be in 3D, already has a release date of April 15, 2011. Will you be there?

Extra Tidbit: SCREAM only made $6 million in its opening weekend. Doesn't it seem like it was more successful than that?

Far more successful

All of the Scream films were extremely successful at the box office. While we're just referring to the first film, it grossed $103 million domestically with a worldwide total of $173 million. With only a $14 million budget I'd say it was beyond profitable.

I remember everyone being hyped for SCREAM & the multiple viewings when it came on VHS. SCREAM 2 was the date movie for that first month it was released, you just had to see it if you wanted to be in conversation on monday. Then by Scream 3 no one really cared it had ran its course and was becoming a joke within a joke of a joke. Craven has
nt been relevant since SCREAM, and before that he was barely on the radar only due to NEW NIGHTMARE. So yea this is the extra set of nails to a coffin

It may be a nice nostalgic trip of 90's cynicism but i doubt this will restart the franchise. +++ The greatest rumor for SCREAM 3 was Christopher Walken was cast as the Sydneys moms killer who I cant recall the name of right now

Neato!

There is very little one can deviate from - it's a winning concept... the killer('s) success the next; ideal's & motives change; "it's a new decade...new rules" hehe - Kev Williamson's back too!

I love the Scream movies and am looking very much to this movie. I really hope its not in 3D, well no I take that back. My Bloody Valentine was awesome in 3D and I actually think this could benefit by being in 3D.

these movies died...

as soon as the first "Scary Movie" came out. I love the first Scream and actually enjoyed the first Scary Movie... but after those two, they should have stopped both franchises

A dumbness immeasurable

As I recall, Scream3 was one of the worst movies I have ever paid money to see (and I have paid money to see a lot of manure piles: Batman and Robin, Alien4, Speed2, Ultraviolet, etc...god, I'm an idiot).

You are retarded if you think Scream 3 is worse than those movies. Its obviously below the first two, but not to that degree.

For Some Odd reason I can't wait to see this.. I really loved the first one.. thought the third was better than the second except for the opening kill. I just hope they don't renew the other copycat movies of scream such as IKWYDLS and Urban Legend.

I cannot wait for this film. Also, Scream made 6 million opening weekend but actually had great legs in the box office and grossed more than 100 million domestic total. As far as the 3-D goes, Kevin Williamson has said in interviews this film is NOT going to be 3-D at all. It is not the type of film to have things jump out at you, it is a suspense film. Just cause the series has been gone for awhile does not mean it is dead. Terminator 2 came back almost a decade later and was incredible. Have

Who knows...

Wes Craven, when he really puts effort and forethought into a project, usually delivers the scary goods. He revisited his own 'Nightmare on Elm Street' franchise and came up with 'New Nightmare'...actually making Freddy scary again with an original script and idea. So this could be good, and I say that as someone whose always thought the Scream movies were kind of meh.

KILL SIDNEY!!!!!!

I hope that they do kill off Sidney at the first of the film. IF there is going to be a 5&6, then the franchise could use a fresh start

The original cast members, director and writer? I don't think we could ask for much more from a reboot. Definitely excited about this.

Wes + Kev = Back to Basics

They waited long enough, to get it just right. Kevin Williamson put blood, sweat, and tears into that script, just check his twitter history. Scream 3 sucked cuz there was no Kevin Williamson. And by the way, this is far from a guaranteed money maker...I think they are doing this film out of passion to recreate that magic from the first 2. And Scream 2 was 98% as good as the first one.
