Back in May we learned that Netflix was looking to reunite the cast of David Wain’s 2001 cult comedy WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER for a prequel or sequel series. Word has now come down that Netflix is now moving forward with a miniseries and production is said to be starting up in January. Although it's not known for sure how much of the original cast will be returning, Wain did previously say the majority of the original cast would be back.

Whether it's a sequel series, watching the further (older) adventures of the WHAS characters, or a prequel series, with the cast obviously in their 40s but playing younger versions of their characters from the 2001 film, I think it would a lot of fun to see. The original cast included Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni, David Hyde Pierce, Bradley Cooper, Janeane Garafalo, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Showalter, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Michael Ian Black, and Marguerite Moreau.

Netflix has a strong line up or original hits like House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. If they want to make something of a trend out of adapting already existing properties like Arrested Development and now WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, I'm all for it. It’s likely a hidden gem like WHAS would find more of an audience on Netflix for a sequel than in theaters; so cut out the middle man and find your audience.

We will let you know more details as soon as Netflix gives confirmation. Are you going to check out the series?
