What could be the final Resident Evil will be released in 2014

03.05.2013

Resident Evil

RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION was the first RESIDENT EVIL movie that didn't out-gross its predecessor. That being said, a worldwide total of $221 million is still a pretty good chunk of change on a budget of $65 million. But some of us wondered if it'd be enough for Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich to come back for one last go around.

Turns out it was because ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned from Sony that RESIDENT EVIL 6 (there isn't a title yet but I'm guessing it'll be something like RESIDENT EVIL: REVOLUTION or RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERBIRTH) will be released September 12th, 2014. Filming would likely start sometime this fall and it could be the final film in the franchise...before someone gets the bright idea of rebooting the whole thing of course.

While I liked the first movie, my level of enjoyment has decreased with each new entry in the series. I still haven't seen RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION because honestly I feel like I'm not missing out on much. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point but there isn't a burning need to see it.

If this is the last RESIDENT EVIL movie with Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich, lets hope they go out in a blaze of glory and deliver something truly epic for fans of the franchise that have stuck through from the start.

Extra Tidbit: The next RESIDENT EVIL movie will probably perform well enough to push the movie franchise's worldwide total to over a billion dollars. Even though it will have taken six movies to hit that milestone it's still pretty damn impressive.

These films are fine for what they are, but I certainly wouldn't mind a reboot if it was a bit more Resident Evil related.

I actually enjoyed the last movie for exactly what it was, popcorn fun. I admit though that after this "form" of the franchise is finished, they should reboot it to be the pure horror franchise it was meant to be.

I had lost count of these things. But I'm all for a series that can maintain the same cast and go beyond a trilogy.

They aren't masterpieces but they are fun enough movies I have watched them all and would watch the next one too.

Someone refresh my memory. RE1 was in the mansion (and probably the closest to the actual video game series), RE2 was the one taking place throughout Raccoon City during the outbreak, RE3 was set a few years in the future in Las Vegas that was destroyed/ruined for some reason (despite no one having actually aged in that time), and than RE5 was the one that took place in the building in downtown LA and then eventually ended on a freighter off the coast. Is that correct? Did I miss RE4 or am I

I'll believe it when i see it!!!

I don't believe this will be the last installment. As a huge fan of the first 4 i thought they majorly dropped the ball on Retribution, it was abysmal and the acting was hilarious and not in a good way. END THIS!

Really???

Does anyone care about these completely crap movies at all anymore?? What I never never never in a MILLION ZILLION YEARS is why in hell would you move so far away from the very thing that makes this franchise interesting in the first place.....READY READY?? ZOMBIES!!! So many times I thought that they would return the series to a natural and very very popular Zombie movie again but NO!!

I kinda like the first 3 as popcorn flicks, 4 was okay but the last one was pretty horrible. It was just too much and too stupid to enjoy...

Before I stopped buying DVD's and switched to renting, I owned the first 4 movies. I'm not sure what it is about these movies that have proven so popular but in my case, I thought the first movie was very good and it's because of that I've stuck by this franchise. The rest of the movies from this series have been of meh level (I've watched them all except for the last one...but I'm just waiting for Love Film to offer it). They have been so meh that I’ve forgotten what she’s actually trying

They have been so meh that I’ve forgotten what she’s actually trying to achieve – what’s the objective? The X-Files went like that too…what the hell was Fox Mulder fighting for and against in the end??? But I digress, despite seeing The Fifth Element first and really enjoying it, the first RE movie was the movie that endeared me to Milla Jovovich and led to me going out and buying or renting a number of other movies that she then starred in. As with the rest of the RE movies, those movies were very meh as well...though she always played her part well...just ... the stories...well... weren't great.

I enjoyed the first film, but everything went downhill after that. (I actually left the theater upset after Resident Evil: Afterlife). It'll be interesting to see what the reboot will bring, or rather SHOULD bring (e.g. strong story lines, characters we can relate to, movies that show video games can be adapted into challenging movies and so forth).

With all that said, I do like Milla Jovovich as Alice. I just wish she was used in much better films...!

I liked the first 3, and then didnt bother after that. Get a bit bored with Paul Andersons over the top cheesy matrix slo mo inserted in every action sequence.
