What did you think of...Furious 7?

04.03.2015

After the tragic death of star Paul Walker in 2013 it was unclear what would happen with FURIOUS 7, the 7th installment in THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise (click HERE to revist all the trailers for the series). However, director James Wan, along with franchise spearhead Vin Diesel, pulled it together and finished the film. Based on the trailers and clips the film looks to be every bit as crazy, exciting, outrageous, and cheesy as the prior entries, but with the action dialed up to full speed. With an outstanding cast that included Diesel, Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Lucas Black, Kurt Russell, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Nathalie Emmanuel, and of course, Jason Statham, the latest entry in the franchise looks to be one of its finest.  Critics have warmed up the once-waning series with FURIOUS 7 currently looking fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Our own Chris Bumbray enjoyed the film, giving it a 8/10, as did JimmyO who scored it with a 9/10 in his video review.

You can check out all of our coverage of FURIOUS 7 by clicking the image below!

Now that the engines are cooling down, we want to hear what YOU thought of the film! You can POST YOUR OWN REVIEW of the film in the below strikebacks or on your own Movie Fan Central profile. Is this the strongest entry yet for the series, a step back, or a flat tire?

Rotten Tomatoes: 171 reviews, avg score: 82%
Movie Fan Central: 4 reviews, avg score: 7.7/10

Also, we'll be kicking off the "What did you think of...?" series again for the bigger releases as summer movie season kicks in and since we're finally out of the weeds of January - March. Thank the Movie Gods!

Total fun! The movie's action scenes are pretty badass, with the Abu Dubai stuff being freaking incredible, and the character interactions from the core group is still spot on. Some of the editing of the hand-to-hand combat is a bit too frenzied at times, but that is a minor complaint.

great fun, but...

Great Fun, incredible action scenes, surprisingly emotional in the end.
But the Stath appearing and disappearing with no reason and the fact that Johnson was wastly underused prevent Furious 7 from being the best of the franchise.

It was okay, I thought parts 5 and 6 were way better than this one. What they dialed up on was on the cheesy dialog, they really went crazy with it this time. The cgi effects weren't as good, they should have kept Walker out of it instead of using those terrible CGI effects to superimpose his face...still it entertains and is fun.

**SPOILER ALERT** **SPOILER ALERT** **SPOILER ALERT**
It's one damn entertaining movie. However, the plot hole is even wider than Fast 6. But having said that, this movie is Crazyyyyyy! One crazy stunts after one another. It's that crazy, especially the third act. As for the ending, I got tears in my eyes. It's the best ending a movie can get. As for James Wan, he passed this test with flying color.

Paul Walker's death added some real life gravitas to the proceedings, which gives Furious Seven a well earned weight and meaning to its proceedings that no fictional universe can ever conjure up on its own. Sure, I went in part and enjoyed in part because I was celebrating Paul Walker's life, respecting his final role. I cried. The final tribute was perfect. I believe these actors form an extended family in real life, so their schmaltzy on screen relationships aren't eye roll inducing, but tearjerking. The action feels that much more suspenseful and meaningful, knowing the films act as a symbol for what they went through with Walker's passing and how they want to move forward without his sorely missed presence.

Over the top? Absolutely. Was it a good time? Absolutely! Great popcorn flick, great action, didn't drag at all.

And I have to say the handled the Walker aspect greatly! I heard they were gonna use his brother to finish filming. I looked, couldn't notice a thing. Bravo.

Ok. So... Furious 7 was eh... It was ok. Who am I kidding. I love these movies, they're fun. But after 2Fast this can easily be one of the worst. Once you get off that popcorn and soda high you'll see this too. Not saying it was bad. Not saying it's horrible or the worst in the franchise. But not the greatest either. It's somewhere between 2fast and Six. Just simply waaaay too over the top.

What started out in my early teen's as Point Break, ushered in The Fast and the Furious as I finished up college. Though this time around Furious 7 left me bawling, in front of my 2 kids no less, because of obvious and heartfelt good-bye to Paul Walker.
I grew up with a friend, whom when we both went through the trials and tribulations of life, he once told me, "Life is one big movie.." I lost this friend tragically, suddenly nearly nine years ago now and that conversation still stands fast in my head. Movies that impact us in our lives our a reflection of our own timeline in life. It's something that has always drawn me into a theater since I was a youngster. I can't remember what I did yesterday, but ask me the date or year and I will most likely be able to relate it to the time when a certain film I saw was out at the time. Maybe it's cause certain films to allow us to relate to life. After, the end of F7 yesterday it made me reflect yet again, where I was on June 20th, 2001 up until now. How life has changed, stayed the same and continues to move on. It was a pretty surreal feeling...because even though we say good-bye...we never really say good-bye...

Good but less than expected statham car action

Great Fun. Only thing was that I felt they underused statham and not enough car races with him. I wanted more of his car action the only reason why wanted him in the first place.
And great Paul walker tribute. Would have been awesome if they had used the original supra from Fast and the furious.

For me, the main reason for buying a ticket was for Paul Walker. This is the first furious movie that I've seen in the theater, and I enjoyed it! The last 5 minutes was amazing. Beautifully shot and handled with class, they truly gave Paul an amazing tribute and sendoff. You know it's a special moment when everyone in the theater is sniffling and tearing up.

Despite the highly enjoyable action scenes, Fast 7 was a predictable, standard quality sequel that doesn't really know how to top themselves but to pile up more ridiculously written plot on top of another. The villains were straight up one dimensional, including Statham whose role in the plot was disappointingly shallow.

Leave your brain at the door ...

I know I am going against popular opinion, but seriously ... the first hour was great. Action! Fun! Very slick! The usual from the franchise. But then it just dragged out with bad dialogue, MORE action, and turn into an tribute to Paul Walker Show. Don't get me wrong, it was done very nicely but the rest just dragged on. It could have been an half an hour less and still been ok. Fast Five (the best in the franchise) had Good action, good script, and most of all ... Good story! Statham seems to

Have a quick fight. Then disappear. How did he know where to always go? And at the end, no-one really cared about him because the story was so disjointed. And of course, Vin Diesel can stomp and make a building crumble around his enemy. Stratham can survive a fight with the Rock, but Vin Diesel can take him down. Gimme a break. It went from just believable, to simply ridiculous. If you want a fun, brain dead, action, no story show, that ties in well with the series ... it was fun. If you want something more, this isn't for you. As far as Jimmy O giving it 9/10. He must have had a full on Paul Walker/Vin Diesel bromance hard-on happening, because it is only worth a 6.5 out of 10. Awesome action. Not much else.

I agree with you on this one. Statham took down an entire hospital but can't take down Vin Diesel in the parking lot. I was scratching my head on that one. Furious 6 was better for me, though.

It was a good time at the movies. Great over-the-top action, good humor, and Walker's exit from the series was handled with class. It is not my favorite of the series though, as I felt Jaa was greatly underutilized considering his exceptional talents, and Johnson is missing from the vast majority of the film, which is somewhat disappointing since his character Hobbs is pure Badass. My biggest gripe though is the handling of Statham's character. I thought this was a straight up revenge story,

After the opening introduction of his character, you think he is a one man wrecking crew, yet later when more special forces arrive he first runs away, then secondly he needs a team of baddies working a different angle to help him out. Plus, can't the trained ex-special forces assassin kick someones ass without the intervention of a bomb or helicopter, especially when your fighting a street racing criminal? Altogether the movie is still a lot of fun and a great addition to the series, but hopefully Statham returns to actually kick ass and take names next time.

I enjoyed it. The opening sequence was probably one of the best introductions of a character I think I've probably ever seen. The action was understandably over the top but more so this time around (everyone knows expert hand to hand fighting now?), seeing Kurt Russell again was awesome as was the short return of Sean Boswell, I wish I saw more of Jaa as he was such a foil and Rousey... she can fight but can't emote or act and honestly you probably might tear up at the end.

All and all

All and all it left me both exhausted and giddy as well as awwing all over the place, the movie is probably the kitchen sink of the series and I honestly don't know how they could top this if or when FF8 comes out. Maybe toning it back a bit might help, sensory overload can only take you so far especially after going on 15 years.

Good but not the best

Really enjoyed the movie a lot. I did have some negativity towards the mayhem at the end. However the plane/mountain scene was great as was the section in Abu Dhabi. Little disappointed in the lack of screen time for Black/Rousey/Jaa. Hopefully Vin and the gang decide to keep going but if they don't I'd understand. It really was a beautiful send off for Paul Walker. All in all 8/10!!

it was amazing

The action, the group dynamic, the scenery, jason statham, it had everything and more. My favorite movie so far this year not to mention the best in the franchise and that paul walker tribute was emotional and heartfelt, he will always be missed, a great send off to an awesome and genuinely nice human being. Bravo. 10/10.

I thought it was a lot of fun and probably the most entertaining film of the franchise (not sure if it's the best one though). A strong film to have the series end on in my opinion and it's a nice tribute and send off for Walker. The montage (along with the song) was a nice touch.

I hope it destroys the box office. It deserves to.

This movie will kick you in the balls & eat out your girlfriend!

There's not a drop of cynicism or physics in the entire film. I fucking loved it!
Batshit-crazy action, humor and a lot of heart. Lots of tears in the audience too. Esp. in the last 10 minutes. All the Paul Walker stuff was really well done. I won't spoil anything, just know that it's very cool.

Very happy to see that Walker’'s final onscreen appearance was crafted with some grace. The culmination of his story is, given the circumstances, just right, and that conclusion is likely

Disappointed

It definitely had some brilliant moments but this time it just felt like that one step too far and now the franchise is heading way too much into Expendables territory. Will be interesting to see if anyone else agrees or if I'm just becoming harder to please nowadays. With Kurt Russell rumoured to be in 8 I guess they want to take it more in that direction, just feel it's going to lose the feel of the others too much. Was hoping for a tighter story which was about Statham on the revenge

Furious 7

If you're looking for logic in movies, keep on moving. The Fast and Furious franchise defies gravity and physics in every action scene, but as long as you check your brain at the door, it's a LOT of fun. Furious 7 ups the ante on the action quota and delivers a solid movie that handles the real life death of Paul Walker in the most touching and appropriate way. The negatives are few, but worth noting. The writing isn't as sharp as the last two movies, with a lot of the humor and wit falling

The negatives are few, but worth noting. The writing isn't as sharp as the last two movies, with a lot of the humor and wit falling flat. And with the ever expanding cast, some of the core members are largely ignored. Dwayne 'The Rock" Johnson is mostly absent from the movie and the lack of his presence shows. Tony Jaa and Ronda Rousey are mostly wasted and thrown in just for fight scenes (but they are DAMN good fight scenes). Overall, this is a solid entry into the franchise and a fitting send off for Walker. A great start to what looks like an awesome summer movie season.

I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun. I mean, the movie was completely stupid, and a lot of the dialogue was cringe worthy, but it was overall so over the top and crazy that I had fun. The franchise has finally found it's stride in being balls to the wall with it's action and embracing it's camp. But I do like the casts chemistry as well. As stupid as the script may be, these guys jive really well together and it's fun to see them interact. I really liked the finale too. I won't spoil

Honestly, I could see them keeping this train going now that the series is actually enjoyable to watch.
