What did you think of...Suicide Squad?

08.06.2016

After a string of beautifully-chopped trailers and a solid marketing campaign, director David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD has arrived and the results are...quite mixed. Much like BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, the film has garnered a blend of reactions from love to hate to mediocrity, leaving fans in a tizzy over whether critics have been overly harsh or if WB is fumbling the ball on the DCEU. Starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Jay Hernandez, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Cara Delevingne, the "bad guys fighting evil" superhero flick has been on the hype train for a good while and looks to clear a solid opening regardless of any negative reviews.

Speaking of which, our own Chris Bumbray seemed to mostly enjoy the flick, giving it a 7/10, saying, "...it's occasionally messy, but it’s also quite dynamic at parts and Robbie’s heroine is one of the most exciting to hit the big-screen in years." Eric Walkuski's AITH review was less favorable, giving it a 5/10, saying, "...it's an uncomfortable amalgam of routine action movie and gonzo cartoon, where Ayer's sensibilities are consistently tampered down by the lame constraints of a company too afraid to let him go wild." I'll be sharing my own review on the site tomorrow, so we should have a decent round-up of our thoughts here at JoBlo.com, but if you've read my recent C'mon Hollywood, then you know how I feel about getting too worked up about reviews in general. In the end, you can and should make up your own mind about the film.

And with that, now it's your turn! We want to hear what YOU thought of the film! You can POST YOUR OWN REVIEW of the film in the below strikebacks or on your own Movie Fan Central profile, if you so desire. Naturally, we'd prefer you to comment only if you've seen the film as that's the point here, but do what feels good. Just don't get mad if you get trounced for trolling. Healthy debate, genuine thoughts, and respectful interactions is all we ask. So, let's hear it: Was it a letdown in terms of anticipation or did it deliver on your expectations? Is the DCEU in trouble or on the right track?

Overall I enjoyed it. Nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews suggested it was. There were issues, of course - I wasn't sure if I liked Leto's Joker, he seemed to be trying too hard at times, the main villain wasn't great in its less smokey form though I rather liked its main accomplice - the use of music throughout lacked subtlety - and the guy I said as soon as the characters were announced months ago would be the team member to die within 15 minutes died in less than 10 - but for the most

Quinn and Waller were both decent takes on the characters, I didn't dislike Smith as Deadshot as much as I thought I might and everything rattled along at a brisk pace (maybe feeling a tad over edited). Honestly I've seen much worse comicbook movies.

Some good moments, Will Smith's Deadshot was fully fleshed out and fun, but the rest was just poor writing and pacing. Joker is not intimidating, he has no presence in this movie that would make me think anything of him other than forgettable. Harley just doesn't work for the story but that's just a symptom of a really lame story. The rest of the squad... showed up. It's very disjointed. You would be better off watching Assault on Arkham for at least a coherent story. Do better DC!

I'd give it a solid 6.5

There was a decent amount to like and it flowed nicely. Aside from a different story though, an extra 10-15 minutes could have improved the movie up to an 8. The first half or so introducing all the characters was great, but then they don't really get them together and develop them as a group. You meet everyone and they just throw them off to the city. Could have used some team dynamic building and to build up the threat a bit more. Overall though, was a relatively fun movie.

Best Non Nolan DC Effort

The reviews are obviously mixed, but the bottom line is the movie isn't that bad. It has it moments that make it shine. Make no mistake has, this is no Marvel film, it pales in comparison, but it is 10 times anything that Zack Snyder has put out. I really don't have a lot of faith is the DCU, they appear to be too headstrong on sticking with Snyder and doing everything in house. The sooner DC realizes they don't know what they are doing, the sooner they can compete with Marvel.

Deadshot Squad

Totally agree with satanclayton. There was way too much Deadshot screentime when the more interesting characters got pushed to the back.I wanted to see more Diablo and Killer Croc. It just seemed a little dis-jointed and rushed in place and needless flashback scenes.I suppose thats what happens when there is so many characters to fit in a two hour movie. The critics have been extremely harsh. I enjoyed it but could of been better. 6 out of 10 for me.

The Deadshot and Harley Quinn Show

Thought it was ok but could have been so much better.Should have been called Deadshot,Harley Quinn and The Suicide Squad.as the other characters were seriously underused.. The Joker didn't feel like The Joker and I thought Killer Croc should have been a lot bigger. Kept me entertaimed but just felt like there was something missing.

Never have I seen

Such high praise for a film that just wreaks of mediocrity.

If this film didn't have beloved comic book villains/characters in it, and was a standalone original film with different unheard of characters, you'd all be shitting on it just like the critics.

look guys...

this movie was not good. it had good moments (but not scenes). it had good characters, played well by good actors. but the writing! the editing! the overall story! come on. it was like Prometheus, BvS, X-Men Apocalypse before it. where at some point in the third act, you have to ask "what the fuck is going on?". this movie was pandering at it's most pandering. if this was a fan film, i'd say it was good. but for a big budget hollywood film, we should demand better. don't short change yourself.

Really Critics?

look: i never liked man of steel, batman v superman or any of dcís superhero crap except the dark knight trilogy. but i loved this one. it was fun shit, the characters were all interesting and they all had chemistry together. you know that quiet bar scene? it felt like in another level they all know the internet's going to hate and call them ugly. then killer croc scoffs and simply says "i'm beautiful." and I somehow agree with him. you might think it's a mess, but to me it's fuckin' beautiful.

The critical hatred for this movie is unjustified. It was a good movie. Wasn't great, yes, but it wasn't terrible. Robbie as Harley Quinn was brilliant.

It was okay. Felt like two different movies, woulda been better without Enchantress and with more black ops wetwork rather than having a villain of the week feel. And somehow Deadshot read and understood an entire mission document in 7 seconds flat. Whatever. All the Batman stuff was great, Harley and Joker were well done. Boomerang had nothing to do, unfortunately, and Diablo had that stupid "not losing another family" bullshit, even though he's known these people for about an hour. Hated

Hated Harley's "you messed with my friends" line, though. And the soundtrack was absolute musical bombardment. You can't put every song you like ever in a movie. It's too much. Every scene, every story beat, had another song. Tough to stomach. It'll do fine but I was hoping to be blown away. Deadshot on the car put a smile on my face, I can say. Very disjointed and overbearing when it came to the pacing and editing, so I understand the hate. Okay flick, my least favorite of the three, though.

It was a great time, and definitely filled the role of late Summer studio glitter fart. From what I've heard about those rumored cut scenes, they helped make it more "accessible", which should help it next weekend. Anyone else kinda feel the movie lost its pulse after Diablo bit it?

Definitely. I thought the part with Diablo vs big brother was cool (especially the subtitles), then it was like....."Huh?"

I didn't like the end scene either. I'm not sure what was wrong with it, but it just felt lame and like it was lacking any emotional punch.

For the first 80 min i kept thinking it was great and didnt understand the hate.. then right after smith finds the mission documents the movie really was uneven. It seemed to have been butchered the last 30 min or so. Overall I think it was good but i want to see a directors cut.. Smith and Robbie stole the show and I really liked Leto too. Jai Courtney finally gave a good performance. Joe K was a low spot for me as well as shoddy cgi at points ( subway scene yikes!) Music was fine but as much

Hust watched it...

I genuinely enjoyed it. A lot better than I thought it would be. In my opinion, the overly negative are not justified.

Warm steamy pile of doo doo from DC.
Should've had more shots from behind Harley's ass, though. (sarcasm)

Suicide Squad is a fun, family friendly flick that will make you believe in the power of true love, makeup, and pink unicorns. I give it a nice round number of 4,75/7 stars.

Solid B+

Really enjoyed it. I'm one of the few that absolutely loved BvS. I didn't enjoy Suicide Squad quite as much as I did BvS but I feel like it's a solid DCU entry. Enchantress wasn't as fleshed out as I would prefer but I loved spending time with the Squad. Each character got their time to shine (would like to see more Boomerang in the future) and even though we got only a taste of Leto's Joker, he stole every scene he was in. I would gladly go see this movie again.

5/10 To 6/10

The story was a bit of a mess with an underwhelming pair of villains. Deadshot was good and Harley Quinn was entertaining except for the fight scenes - she should have been shown having a lot more ferocity. El Diablo was interesting near the end of the film. The rest of the Squad were mostly place holders that either couldn't beat a lot of experienced fighters or just didn't have much appeal for me (Killer Croc). Not the worst movie of the year, but I can understand the low scores from most

I think it was better than B vs S and not as bad as the horrible reviews... But definitely did not live up to all the hype. The cast was great. I think it jumped around a little too much in the start and the villain was kinda weak. I think the editing was horrible, just like B vs S. For someone that isn't a huge comic book guy, some more back story would be nice and stop throwing in quick scenes of others, like flash/aquaman, or dream sequences that can be confusing to the non comic fan and

They should of made 1-2 movies with these characters before they all threw them together. The heroes and villains for DC might be better than marvels... But marvel was more prepared, had a plan, and knew what they wanted to do, and DC got caught with their dick in their hands and just been scrambling to catch up. The casting has been awesome tho... Joker, Harley, and deadshot are awesome. Even like affleck as the Bat. Wonder woman trailer looks great... Let's hope that movie and a few of the great characters can regroup and get things back on track!!!!!

Really wanted to like it, really did for a while early on. Enjoyed Smith, some funny moments for Boomerang, Killer Croc looked great. Then it does nothing interesting with them, and for me it just flatlined. And oh God what a disaster of a villain. Was I watching Gods of Egypt...?

Not perfect, but I liked it.

I liked it even more the second time around. There is so much crammed inside its two-hour running time that it's almost impossible to take it all in on one viewing (especially with the kinetic editing).

Make up your fucking minds what you are doing Warner Brothers

I try to love what you are doing. I really do. But make a film you are committed to.
Some movies deserve a 15 rating. Deadpool for example. This one may well have played that way as well. No probs.
My daughter is a big fan of Harley and it winds up a 15 rating in the UK?
She knew she wouldn't see Deadpool. But Harley?
Warner Brothers need to fuck off away from DC and allow them to do what they need to do so we can see the movies we deserve.

I enjoyed the film, but it's a pretty frustrating time to be a DC fan right now, even if you've enjoyed what they've released despite the negative reviews. All the controversy leaves you wishing they will release one film soon that mostly everyone, critics and fans alike, will love across the board. That's not a cure all, but it's a step towards ending all the hate and skepticism that WB and DC have garnered so far. I believe Wonder Woman is the film that has the most goodwill going for it in

I loved it

I thought the CG was very well done and loved the villain and supernatural elements. Not really sure what to think of Leto's joker, and so far I prefer all the other Jokers before him, but I thought all the other characters were great. The story was good, the music was awesome and the action was fun.

Now I can get people enjoying Will Smith and Margot Robbie's performances and even Jared Leto's Joker (although I personally wasn't a fan of his take) but the CG is something I definitely took issues with, Incubus look gosh-awful, almost like Syfy movie bad CG with the actor's face very cumbersomely grafted on top. I also that that El Diablo's fire looked pretty fake CGI'ish, although Enchantress' minions and doom machine looked reasonably good.

I probably should have clarified I'm an awful judge of CGI. None of that bothered me at all, and in fact I thought it all looked really good. But, take that with a grain of salt since my CGI detecting abilities suck. It's a blessing in disguise. :)

Really enjoyed it

The critics are playing themselves. I'd give it a good 8/10. Can't believe critics said it was worse than Fantastic Four. Wished there were more of the Joker, but reading the reviews you'd think he was hardly in it. Also, the CGI was fine. I don't even get what the hate for DC is about anymore. Than a complete shit fest like Independence Day Resurgence scored higher on RT is transparently absurd. I can't wait to see more of these characters and a sequel.

I'm really not 100% sure how I feel about the film... I walked out of the theater with some pretty mixed feelings... But it kept me entertained, and I'd love to see more of these characters... That's gotta mean they did something right.

I thoroughly enjoyed Suicide Squad. I thought it was a great movie. I don't understand the hate for it. If it were a Marvel Studios film, people would be sucking it off. The same thing goes for Thor: The Dark World. Those were a couple of terrible movies that got positive reviews simply because they were made by marvel Studios. I just want things to be reviewed fairly, is that too much to ask? Do reviewers really think they can give every DC film bad reviews and every Marvel Studios film good reviews? Do they think we wouldn't eventually notice?

Dc movies get love when they are good. For example see Nolans Batman trilogy. But when they aren't good ( BvsS, MoS, Suicide Squad), then people get upset. We all love the characters and want it to be great. But the truth is, they are under performing expectations. We want to be blown away, and they simply don't do that. They are decent stories, with good visuals, and some good acting. But they leave too much to be desired.

Just my opinion on it all. I respect your opinion.

It's not enough to be good, they must be great. Nolan and Marvel have set the bar pretty high. And Marvel has definitely had missteps (see most x men movies and hulk, and ultron) but Marvel has more hits than misses. Dc needs to just get one hit to knock it out of the park, then we will be more willing to accept a few missteps.

I thought it was a very good film. I had a ton of fun with it too. It was leagues more fun than BVS. 7.5 out of 10

Neutral only because I already voted below, but I just wanted to see if anyone is watching the BO numbers...Variety now reporting up to $147 mil?? That's insane. I get it's going to drop like a rock next weekend, but given the Olympic opening ceremonies last night, even the haters have to admit its pulling impressive figures.

Look, I get that people have different opinions and perspectives, so not everyone is going to like Suicide Squad. However, anyone with a reasonable bone in their body has to concede that there is considerable bias towards WB's recent slate of DC films. For some reason a lot of people are much harsher on DC, simply for not being Marvel clones. Suicide Squad sitting at 26% on RT is absolutely absurd!! Even if you didn't like it, nothing about that movie is as poor as a 26% rating would suggest!

Well acted, beautifully shot, good cgi, good pace, incredible soundtrack, it's witty, it's funny, the movie just delivers, It's fun! It knows what it is, and it revels in it!! The amount of bashing a genuinely good flick like this is getting is mind boggling. One critic was complaining about the reasoning for forming the team, and ranted about that for several paragraphs. If your just looking for ways to tear the movie down why even go watch it?!

So, do not listen to these critics, I had a blast watching this and prolly gonna see it once more in theater, go see for yourself!

It was a fun and entertaining movie, not the best but definitely not the worst like the critics claimed it to be.

I think a serious approach would have been better. I think the main issue with WB/DC is that there triying to catch Marvel, and that's a battle that they are not going to win. Marvel began this universe with a lot of patience and dedication and it wasn't over night. WB exects should just stick to making great and fun movies, not try to compete with Marvel. I though the movie was a lot of fun, really good characters and performances by the stars. Leto's Joker was really a tease/cameo for what's about to come and I thought he was GREAT! Just completely nailed the role. But Ayer and Post editing took the epicness out of Leto's Joker.

Still, I thought it was a good movie and the sold out critics should just take the hate down a couple of nudges. 7.5/10 sorry for the spelling mistakes..

Meh......definitley not a must-see

Mediocre film, but probably the best of the 3 new DC cinematic universe films. The filmmakers obviously wanted cake and to eat it too, trying to make this goofy fun like Deadpool and serious like the previous DC films released. It doesn't work.

Margot Robbie and Viola Davis are fun in their roles, but Jared Leto's Joker presentation was beyond disappointing. It felt they just decided late in pre-production to shoehorn him in the film like Topher Grace's Venom in Spider-man 3.

Originality

The scene where Deadshot's daughter shows up at the final fight was a complete ripoff from GotG when Peter Quill's mother shows up. Almost shot for shot.

And ridiculous. Why would his conscious kick in right when he's about to save the world? And shoot a bomb, not a person.

I laughed out loud at that and Rick turning, grabbing Deadshot's shoulder and shouting "her heart is cut out! Now we can end this" or some exposition like that. If Deadshot maybe said "I heard you the first time" it would soften the ridiculousness of that moment and delivery ...but as it stands...awkward a.f

I'm feeling the comic book fatigue

... but not for this one. I freaky dug this movie.

I'll give some love for RoboCop since no one else will. The relationship between him and Will Smith was really effective in my opinion.

If they're gonna keep making adult cartoon movies and they can paint outside the lines a bit like they did with this and Deadpool... more power to ya.

I liked it and didnt feel like I wasted my money. Check your brain at the door beforehand.

Pros:Will Smith, Viola Davis (holy shit is she mean), Cinematography, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez
Cons: The shoved in your face soundtrack that is like a Spotify list of classic rock songs, Rick Flaggs terrible accent, Enchantress, could have been rated R

The CGI was so bad it took me out of the story

Movie was like a 5/10. I was happy with Harley Quinn and the Joker, but the movie's story was garbage. Enchantress was a horrible vilain and her plot and story were ridiculous. The CGI on her looked like a made-for-TV movie and I was cringing every time her brother would fling his arm at people. If they had actually used a CGI King Shark instead of Killer Croc, I cant even imagine how bad that would be. Oh yeah, Will Smith was entertaining, but I have trouble taking him seriously as a bad guy.

Average

Just a run of the mill action movie. Nothing really stood out as memorable. Weak villian, weak story, weak dialogue. A bit of wasted potential for some awesome characters.

The critics are way too harsh on this movie, while BVS I can understand, I thought this was a better put together film. I really enjoyed the characters and their interactions and found something to like about each one (Captain Boomerang often stole the show). My only issues were with the main villain and their thinly thought out plan, which lead to the more generic action beats of the movie. Finally the Joker was alright but not overly memorable, felt like much of his role was left on the

The movie was certainly middle of the road. Not particularly good but not quite awful either. Best parts; great visuals, terrific costume design, great casting. As great as Robbie and Davis are, it's a little difficult to love there characters when the script gives them very little in the way of good dialogue or memorable things to do. In that same regard the new Joker is surprisingly unmemorable. I would argue a lot of this has to do with the characters never getting great, memorable moments or dialogue like in say the airport scene in Civil War.The best moment in my opinion, was actually Croc's excitement about getting to swim in the sewers again. In particular I think the choice of villain was a mistake and resulted in a boring, pretty generic story. I've never seen so many cliche song choices in one film and never used to a lesser effect (helps to play a song for more than 30 seconds).

Way too much of the movie felt rushed and there were so many things I would have liked to have seen developed (the early relationship between Harley and the Joker in particular is something I wished they had spent another 20 minutes on). This leads to the biggest problem with the film. There's little to no depth with any of it and what they do try to create comes off as hollow and fake, usually do to the lack of time spent on anything. The team coming together at the end doesn't feel like something that has been naturally occurred with these characters, for example. Even with all of that said I want to keep seeing more DC films because I like so much of what they have started to build. this cast alone is far too good to waste. So work a little harder on the next one and stay out of Affleck's way when it comes time for him to do his Batman.

5/10 for the movie 0/10 for the Joker

Yeah thats right. The movie was average. Enjoyable in moments, and Harley is perfect. A fucking clusterfuck mess at other points. Much like BVS this feels like it was a bunch of different movies and scripts thrown into a blender with not a lot of direction. Oddly despite lack of screen time, I actually liked Boomerang a lot and maybe second behind Harley. However the "Joker" was an asbolutely repugnant abortion of a performance. This is NOT the Joker, its a fucking embarrassment. I was praying

I'm surprised you weren't higher on Smith's performance. He really nailed the character with just enough mean and just enough dark humor to make him cool. There was a little "Fresh Prince" thrown in that I could have lived without, but there was a lot missing from Harley's character as well.

I really liked Diablo's backstory as well. That may have been the most involving moment of the film. You could have heard a pin drop in the theater while he was telling it.

Yeah that was a good story I will give you that, and probably the standout moment of the movie frankly. Similar situation during that movie in theater. A quiet and focused audience. But my theater was also only half full. Which doesn't bode well. I thought Smith was ok but I never saw him as Floyd in my mind. As dumb as it sounds while watching him I always had the Floyd from arrow in the back of my head. I loved that guys mannerisms for Deadshot so I admit to being biased on that.

Thought it was a lot of fun, packed crowd at the IMAX theater I was at today gave it a round of applause at the end. Standouts were Hernandez, Robbie, Smith and Viola Davis. Most of the cast was pretty good (although the "thanks for coming out award" goes to Adam Beach), the effects and action were excellent. Only drawbacks were some plot holes (like El Diablo's transformation - shame because the rest of his story and character were interesting), and minimal explanation for Enchantress's

The Critics were right

This movie was suppose to e huge for DCU and it's a disappointment. The joker is only on the screen for 20 minutes and he's not a great. The story is slow, the characters are good and ok. The action scenes were ok, no WOW moment in this movie. The only great thing was the music. Fantastic. I give it 2/12 out of 5

Kinda agree w/ the conspiracy theorists out there

No need to go in-depth. The movie was a solid 7 out of 10. Right in line with the third entry to Marvel's universe. It wasn't a slam dunk; mostly because WB had a knee jerk reaction to critics of BvS. Sometimes, it's best to just trust the writers and directors you hire rather than focus groups. Tinkering occurred, and it obvious as shit. This is definitely no 3 out of 10 movie so I can honestly say that critics and marvel fanboys can choke on their words. WB needs to quit being pu$$ies and

My second favorite movie of the summer

Suicide Squad was amazing and so much fun. The critics were obviously wrong once again, it's entertaining from beginning to end. It's probably my favorite DC movie of all time and if Jared Leto or Margot Robbie don't get an oscar then I'm never watching the oscars again, they were that good. Watch it and see for yourself, I can't get enough, gotta see it again, it was that good. If you think i'm joking i'm not, i am dead serious, this was legit great. A perfect 10/10 from me, can't wait to get

I thought the film was excellent with the entire cast being top notch; Robbie, Smith, and Leto particularly stealing the show in my opinion. It's a nice, fun, and worthy addition to the DCEU and even though I wouldn't call it the best film thus far (Man of Steel is still my favorite) it still ranks high in comic book films released as of late. Good use of music too even if DC was trying to capture the tone, spirit, and likeness of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Wish Leto's Joker was

Wish Leto's Joker was involved a bit more in the story, but I'm sure Affleck will make great use of the character in his own upcoming solo film.

I really enjoyed the movie and had no problem following the story. The introduction seemed a little long, but I understand why it was done.

If you are looking to nitpick the entire movie or are already leaning on a specific opinion, you probably won't like it. However, if you are looking to have a good time with neutral expectations, this is a fun flick and I think you will enjoy it.

I definitely want to go see it again.

Not awful but not good either

I wanted to like this film and was really excited by the promos. But WB, man... They need to be kicked in the ass several times so they understand they should never rush their films, especially not films which could spawn a franchise. The cast was really good and the characterization was (mostly) solid - it was more fun to hang out with these characters than the cast of BvS - but it's not enough to make a good film. The script was just garbage and in the end, you're supposed to tell a story.

Pro's:
Will smith was good. I enjoyed his take on the character. I wouldn't mind seeing a solo Deadshot movie pre Suicide Squad
Margot Robbie was great has Harley Quinn
Diablo was cool. I enjoyed his story and would have liked to have seen more
Jai Courtney was surprising solid in this movie
Choice of music was good
The scene with Batman and Deadshot was great
Great chemistry between the cast

Con's:
felt rushed. Especially the second half
Enchantress was absolutely horrible. Bad

Enchantress was absolutely horrible. Bad casting choice. and what the hell was up with all the weird dancing she was doing?
Leto as the Joker was not that good and not memorable. I seriously wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt especially after they changed so much of him. I found MAYBE one scene with him that I liked. Everything else with him was just off. I hope if they put him in the solo Batman movie, hes better than he was here
CGI shitfest at the end. Again, Enchantress was horrible. Not just the acting but the CGI they used on her.
I'm not trying to compare Marvel to DC because I hate that but I feel like they added the music to make it more Like Guardians of the Galaxy. At times, the music worked but other times it just did not mix with the scene. Especially the Eminem song while they are getting ready for battle.
Killer Croc was not funny. Mostly eye rolling. They should have just made him mute
Cringe worthy dialog at times. Especially Killer Croc.

I feel like I'm missing stuff from both Pro's and con's. I will need to check the film out again but will wait until Blu-Ray. 6.5 out of 10. I would say it was disappointing but still at times, it was fun.

(perhaps minor spoilers) I went last night, and have to say -- all of the good and all the bad that you've read about is fairly accurate. Biggest problem is the editing and its frustratingly disjointed feel; what happens when you pin down a release date before a script is even written, and push for that without being open to shifting the schedule around. That being said -- I had an absolute blast.

That being said -- I had an absolute blast.

I was disappointed when the reviews started coming out, but wanted to see it anyways to make up my own mind. It's a film full of wonderfully energetic and engaging scenes, with so many moments that really grabbed me and seized my attention. Loved those. However, the "mission" they were on was somewhat nonsensical for a good chunk of the film, and can't help but think about what else they could've sent the Suicide Squad on. The characters and casting were spot on, and they really carried the thing through. Unlike some, I also appreciated the non-linear narrative and use of flashbacks, but the execution as a whole wasn't there. Surprised to see that this was edited by John Gilroy, who has done some fantastic films. I loved Leto's interpretation of the Joker -- creepy, unhinged, dangerous, with an air of sordid indecency and manic energy -- and really can't wait to see him get the center stage in either the next SS or Batfleck's solo flick (heck, I'd love to see a Harley Quinn - Joker solo film that follows the villains around. If you don't want to overuse the Bats, just have the flick take place when he is off with the JL, and have them square off against Nightwing or something).

But to get back to SS and the cast -- Robie gives a real star-making turn, this is Will Smith giving a nuanced, Will Smith performance (can't wait to see his Deadshot solo flick), I saw the charisma in Jai Courtney that perhaps we've been waiting for all along, Killer croc was, well, killer, Diablo was a pleasant surprise, totally dug Katana, Rick Flagg was great, and Amanda Waller is like the comic book come to life. Anyways, this is getting way to long, but I enjoyed it immensely, but acknowledge that it has some major problems that it didn't need to. Check it out in theaters!

Fun, but Flawed.

Good Characters, but story is very simple and the direction doesnt fit with this kind of action. Ayer is not the right person for this job.

Subpar, very generic, not awful but not fun

The movie is basically an awesome first half followed by a movie ruining second half. You don't care about the characters, Harley is just eye candy and nothing more. The girl can't act, her costume was fugly, she wasn't Harley at all. Will Smith plays Will Smith again. The script is just horribly written and the dialogue sounds like it comes from a ten year old. The gunfights are just generic and boring. Loud noises don't make a movie good or interesting. It was just really mediocre and got

it wasn't as terrible as RT critic say, but it sure was a mess. i think they needed more restraint. it didn't flow well, and came off very try-hard. they overdid it with the music. and there was no build-up/pay-off. it was things just happening from scene to scene. the actors and characterizations were great though. margot robbie did a great job. her ass in particular. deadshot was will smith doing what he does best. i liked their take on rick flagg as a stereotypical blue-collar redneck

Much better than critics are saying, but still some problems...

I went to the first showing last night, trying my best to lower my high expectations due to all of the negative reviews I've seen. I was pleasantly surprised. The characters were great, the acting spot on, and I overall dug the vibe. One thing specifically that I disagree with from the reviews that I've seen is the music. I loved the soundtrack and how it was used. Some people said it was trying to rip off Guardians, but I thought it was effective. Will Smith was fantastic, as you have probably

Bring on a Deadshot spinoff franchise ASAP, and I'm all in!
There were things I did not like. I thought the editing was some of the worst I have ever seen in a movie. The whole movie felt choppy, and the transitions from scene to scene were lackluster. Another negative for me was the lack of involvement on behalf of the Joker. He wasn't included very much, and sadly I did not like Leto's portrayal. This may be more the fault of the filmmakers rather than his. The whole neon-pimp look did not do it for me. My last major negative for the movie was the CGI. I completely agree with one of the JoBlo reviews that compared it to a Mummy sequel. It just wasn't up to snuff with what I expect from a film with this kind of budget.
So, I am slightly mixed about the movie. My initial reaction is that it is a 6 out of 10. If a proper extended cut is released, I could even see myself liking it much much more. This was a rare case where I felt that a movie was too short. The choppy, disjointed feel could be vastly improved by some filler that provides us with more substance and content. In closing, I do not think that the actors or filmmakers (except for the editors) are too much to blame for some of the down fallings of Suicide Squad. I believe this is a case of production companies and corporate backers being too involved and sticking their hands where they don't belong.

Refreshing and awesome.

Refreshing, original, fun and cool. The film is more about the team building a comadare and the characters than the villain's scheme and it was different enough to stand out. Critics aren't being paid off but they are desperate to be part of the in crowd and wouldn't dare have an opinion that differs from their peers. There is no way some of the slating this film has got is justified, even if they didn't like it, the trashing doesn't make sense. The negative reviews I've seen aren't even

There's a Marvel bias

Perhaps on a subconscious level, but all the hate this movie is getting is completely unjustified. Critics calling it unoriginal but praising every Marvel villain that includes a faceless villain on a quest for a powerful stone, gets a round of applause for being groundbreaking. The performances in Suicide Squad are awesome, Harley steals every scene, and despite the very small role of the Joker, it's effective because it shows a different side of the character. The best story line was the one of the Joker And Harley. It was underdeveloped and I would have loved to learn more about how a twisted sociopath ended up falling in love. So many small details in their scenes that were not developed. So said to hear Jared say most of the Joker scenes were cut. There's clearly more to the story

The film was about the team, The Joker was a side plot and for me was in it just enough to be left wanting more. This wasn't his film but his mystique really helped build on Harley's desperate obsessive character. I thought his elements were perfect.

Just got back from the theatre... First thoughts on it...

I actually had a lot of fun with it. I've heard some some reviewers criticize the use of pop music, but, particularly in the introductions, all those songs immediately let me know who the characters were with zero exposition, which I honestly haven't seen happen in a film in a long time. I'll be buying the soundtrack.

Jared Leto's Joker was, to me, great. I liked his mannerisms, and he separated himself enough from former Jokers to make me want to see more of him in the rest of this

I'll be buying the soundtrack.

Jared Leto's Joker was, to me, great. I liked his mannerisms, and he separated himself enough from former Jokers to make me want to see more of him in the rest of this universe. There are some logic issues with him (so he can withstand a rocket blast to the helicopter but he trips at the very moment he's about to jump out of the helicopter?) but overall I liked his interpretation. Again, I know I want to see more of him.

I loved Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She was funny, cunning, and badass. I love that they included the notion that, deep down, all she wants is a normal life with the Joker with a couple of kids and a home in the suburbs. I feel like that might be setting up a future conflict between the two.

Deadshot. Awesome. One of my favorite parts of the film was when he was atop a car, mowing down the bad guys. The looks of awe from the military guys was the same I had. When he was first cast, I was hesitant about Will Smith, but he really owned the role.

The rest of the supporting team played their parts well. I laughed a lot with Boomerang, and thought Croc was a lot of fun. Diablo (up until the final fight) was great. I almost wish the movie was a little bit longer to flesh them out.

My biggest problems with the movie came in the third act, more specifically the final battle. Ugh. A lot of trash in there. I feel like there was a lot left on the cutting room floor. Apparently Diablo is of the same line of magic as Enchantress, and they just never mention it? Enchantress herself made so many dumb choices as to how her character moves and interacts with people, and her overall motivations were...well...kind of dumb. Why would Harley run up to the clearly indestructible Brother and try to fight him with a baseball bat? Why would Enchantress fall for Harley's clearly fake submission? Why did Boomerang rejoin the team when he made it clear throughout the whole movie he wanted out? In short, the third act was terrible, and was only saved by some good performances.

As for the editing, I think I actually enjoyed the frantic, kinetic energy of it more than most will. It was a bit all over the place, but in a weird way I think it suited the movie.

Amanda Waller was great.

Loved the Batman/Flash cameos.

All in all, I think there's a better, more cohesive version of this movie somewhere. I hate to say that because I don't want Warner Brothers to start a trend of saying "Hey...you thought that was alright....wait til you see THE DIRECTOR'S CUT THO". That being said, I had a lot of fun watching it. They made some interesting choices, some of which payed off incredibly well, while others fell incredibly short. I think Chris Bumbray's 7/10 review was pretty spot on: I liked more than I didn't like, and a few excellent performances made for an overall entertaining film.

I loved BvS (especially the ultimate cut) and consider myself more of a DC fan than Marvel.

It pains me to say this movie is probably a 3/10. Some cool visuals. Margot kinda nailed Harley but had a very bad script to work with. Dialogue was awful. I just...I don't think I've seen a movie try so hard and yet be so bad in years. I'm not trolling. I really wanted to like it. I think critics are stupid and seem to be overly harsh with DC, but I think they were right with this one. I'm so sorry.

Nope. Just saw it again. The movie is a mess. It has a new song every 10 seconds and has barely a laugh in the whole movie. Enchantress is handled very poorly and her brother, like many have said, looks like CGI left over from the Mummy movies. Leto sounds like the grill is in the way of him being able to annunciate. Margot is right, but has terrible lines to deal with. Rick Flagg grabbing Deadshots shoulder to let him know the hearts been cut out... Deadshots daughter appearing to beg him not

Deadshots daughter appearing to beg him not to shoot when he's just gonna shoot a bundle of dynamite to save the world...that's the moment his conscious appears?? killer croc being scrawny and having terrible dialogue as well. Honestly Viola Davis and Margot Robbie are the saving graces, and Will Smith on the car, shooting up the crowd of monsters was very cool, but honestly... Batman Assault on Arkham and Arrow have both given us great examples on what a Suicide Squad movie could've been and this just wasted it's potential. Honestly all these 7/10s are in denial. I'm not a Marvel fanboy, but it pains me that this movie wanted to be Guardians of the Galaxy when it could have been its own thing. I'll be generous and call it a 4/10 or pull a Paul Shirey and get rid of scores all together. I don't like the movie. I will pretend it doesn't exist in the continuity (like Spectre or Indy 4) and I will hope Wonder Woman and Justice League deliver. With Batman v Superman, the critics and most of you I thought were crazy for trashing it. It's a pretty good movie with some easily ignorable problems and the ultimate cut even fixed some of them. This one I can't ignore the problems. I'm happy most of you can and honestly you guys being able to enjoy it is wonderful. But I think I'm gonna pop in my DVD of Assualt on Arkham or heck... watch Guardians of the Galaxy.

Smith, Robbie and Hernandez freakin' stole the show as Deadshot, Harley Quinn and Diablo. Leto was disappointing as Joker, but didn't ruin the film by any means. He probably should've been the main villain here but I'm guessing they're saving him for Harley Quinn/Batman solo flicks. The Enchantress and her brother came off a bit too pinky and the brain, with a typical master plan of world domination. On a positive note, I thought the tone was great and they did a great job of balancing the

The action was solid even though the final battle was a bit too formulaic. The cast meshed well together though and felt like an actual team. I'd rather see a sequel to this than the Justice League film. Or just hurry up with a HQ Solo, that works too. Definitely recommend this one if you're looking for Summer fun at the Theatre, my crowd loved it and actually gave a round of applause.

I think critics are getting too not picky about a lot of things....thought the movie was really good. I enjoyed it overall. Yes there could have been some better character development, yes there could have been some better story elements here and there, but the movie is just fine. Harley was perfect, Deadshot was great!
The joker was not in it enough to give me a solid opinion of him... I thought some scenes he did really well and other scenes he was extremely douchey and seemed to be

The joker was not in it enough to give me a solid opinion of him... I thought some scenes he did really well and other scenes he was extremely douchey and seemed to be overacting a LOT and I HATE HATE HATE how his character looks. The tats and the grille and the shirtless joker just don't work for me. No where near the same quality as Heath Ledger... RIP. I guess Leto's not a terrible joker in the end but I haven't decided if I hate him or if I'm alright with Leto's joker yet. I know it's Leto dressed up and acting like joker... When I watch The Dark Knight I have an extremely hard time seeing Heath Ledger at all.
Overall though this is getting a lot of abuse from the critics that isn't deserved!

Not bad...

Never gets as bad as batman v superman gets, but never gets as good either. Even though this movie has a paper thin plot and pretty much went nowhere with the Harley Quinn/joker storyline I still found myself enjoying it. This movie as a whole is much better then batman v superman but never blew you away with its action like in the batman warehouse scene. All the performances were great! And I lived Margrot Robbie as Harley! Also I loved the sound track and the art direction!
7/10

Awesome!!!

I thought it was awesome. I know people complained about the flashbacks, but I enjoyed them. What I loved most was that this felt like a team, I could see how they wanted to work together. And it might just be me, but Diablo felt like what they wanted Hawkeye to be in AoU. Planning on watching it more than once!

They actually did a nice job assembling the right team. Everyone had something that the mission needed (other than Harley, who was just there to be Harley). I was surprised by how much I liked Killer Croc. I thought that would be the worst part of the movie but he was cool.

The movie itself is good, not great. But I am a huge Batman fan and can say that I am 100% pleased with Harley and Joker. Margot Robbie and Jared Leto killed it, as did Will Smith. Overall I would give it an 8/10

Solid 6 1/2.....7 if you are a fan.

Just got back from a late showing and had a great time with my daughter. Shockingly, Will Smith was probably the best thing about the movie (although Harley and Waller were both outstanding). He played Deadshot vastly better than I expected him to, and it helped carry the emotional core of the film. Robbie did a great job as Harley (even though it wasn't exactly the Harley I knew and loved from the comics). Probably the best performance outside of the big three was Jay Hernandez as Diablo.

Robbie did a great job as Harley (even though it wasn't exactly the Harley I knew and loved from the comics). Probably the best performance outside of the big three was Jay Hernandez as Diablo. The only real emotional moments of the film were either his or Smith's. The rest of the cast was fodder (although I thought Kinnaman was much better as Flag than most reviewers I've seen).

The villain was lame (big shock), the final battle lacked any real punch, and the ending tried to give a surprise twist, but I thought it missed by quite a bit (which probably hurt with critics who already thought it under-performed. But don't believe that 27% shit. This was a solid movie that is well worth a visit in the theater (maybe not a $20 IMAX, but still a big screen). It definitely missed the mark as a Dirty Dozen-style film. It was just basically enjoyable without being game-changing (definitely doesn't fix DCs problem, although Affleck continues to crush his part).

And still not a fan of the Joker. Definitely trying to hard to be cool. My daughter was sure he was actually Jason Todd instead of the original Joker but Ayer swears that's not true. It's a shame because he'd make more sense as a mentally-disturbed Todd trying too hard to be the Joker, rather than the Joker being himself.

I think the film is ok. not bad not good just ok. I enjoyed myself watching it, I'm happy for that. I just hope deadshot gets a spinoff
