What did you think of...The Dark Knight Rises?

Jul. 20, 2012by:

UPDATE: Despite the horrible tragedy that occured last night in Aurora, Colorado, we respectfully ask everyone to try to keep their comments below this article related to the film, and anything related to the shootings below that article.

After the craziness that surrounded THE AVENGERS, PROMETHEUS and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN releases, I wasn't sure if the final part of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, would be able to muster as much enthusiasm, but as demonstrated by the zany behavior of some fanboys before the film's release (over on Rotten Tomatoes), I think this might be the most buzzed film o fthe summer yet! (and I don't foresee any other film creating more until the end of the year actually) To that end, we've already posted JimmyO's 9/10 review HERE, the Arrow's 4/4 review HERE and Chris Bumbray's 10/10 review HERE, so now it's your turn!

Please feel free to POST YOUR OWN REVIEWS in our strike back section below (or to your MFC profile) and we'll continue to update the Rotten Tomatoes and Movie Fan Central reviews over the next few days as well. Oh and how much $$ do you think TDKR will make this weekend?

Rotten Tomatoes: 238 reviews, avg score: 87%
Movie Fan Central
: 29 reviews, avg score: 8.8/10

PS: Don't forget to join us for our DARK KNIGHT RISES chat this Sunday at 7pm EST!

What a monumental piece of film making. As the film progressed the film was being pieced together slowly but surely to quite an outstanding movie. Leaving the movie at the end left me fulfilled with true enjoyment, unlike many movies seen in the past. The last time I felt the same about a movie was The Usual Suspects. Nolan's finest work till now. I doubt that this Batman movie will ever be surpassed. Bravo Mr. Nolan.

I didnt like it.

I really didnt like it for various reasons.
Firstly I will say I have not read the comics so my opinion is not based on comparison to the comics. But I hate what they did with Bane, I hate how at the end they stripped him of all command and power and turned him into a glorified lacky. It felt tacked on simply to have a twist. Plus it makes him a liar, because he confirmed he was the child in the jail during the first fight, said he was born in darkness, but it turns out he wasnt. It almost

Plus it makes him a liar, because he confirmed he was the child in the jail during the first fight, said he was born in darkness, but it turns out he wasnt. It almost feels as if they wrote it in after having already filmed most of the film. So basically it takes away from his whole character.

The ending is a huge cop out too, and once again takes away from Batman's character and sacrifice.

The editing was also very poor. How long was Wayne in the jail for? How long did it take him to get back to Gotham? How long was Gotham under siege for? There is absolutely no sense of time in the film what so ever. And how did Bruce Wayne make it back to Gotham?

Lastly, the sound mix was rushed and a lot of the dialog was hard to hear. In parts it sounded like a bad stereo mix rather than surround sound, with everything just bursting out the front speakers drowning itself out.

Mostly I am disappointed with Bane though. Can you imagine Joker taking orders from someone else? He did what he wanted when he wanted, that was the point. I know Bane isnt the Joker, but he's meant to be smarter, and they once again just turned him into a lacky like they did in Batman & Robin or whichever one it was..

After seeing the movie twice, I liked it more. I would still say it's Nolan's most unwieldy effort yet, has some erratic pacing and a few other problems... but taking a step back and looking at it, it's a pretty crazy film with some delicious mayhem on a massive scale and lots of great moments. I LOVED Bane. Maybe not as much as Joker, but still. If you're like me and found it all a little much the first time around, I recommend a second viewing. It always helps me to nail my thoughts down

I noticed they combined the Bane storyline with the "No Man's Land" storyline for this movie.

Disappointed

A lot of unnecessary people and plots lines in this film. BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT were very focused and powerful. Grounded in reality. I had to suspend my belief too many times in this film. Catwoman was a joke. That being said, Ann Hathaway was better than I thought but still her character served almost no function in the whole scheme. Gordon was underused as was Lucius Fox. Overall, Bane was the best part. Everyone's ending was great except for Batman's. Just a let down. I

That's obvious.

10/10?!

What are people smoking? I consider myself a Nolan fanboy but this movie is NOT a 10/10, NOT better than TDK and does NOT have an epic ending. The ending (no spoilers) is stupid and Nolan is a hypocrite for adding that scene, seeing how he was quoted a few years back saying he would NEVER introduce that character.

At best this movie could be an 8/10 and I'm praying an extended cut is released one day, seeing how rumor is the original cut was 3+ hours. Lastly, if you are a real Batman fan, as in read his comics, you would agree that the ending is so unlike Batman that you can't give this a "great" review.

Very Meh

Argue if you so choose but I really thought TDKR sucked. Like inception the plot was way too scattered. Bane sounded like a queen when he spoke. The "bat" flying thing made me feel like I was watching transformers or the new G.I Joe movies. Also I noticed that Bale had such a small amount of screen time. Def not good when Anne Hathaway was the best part of the movie and all that really stuck out. I'll even hit a minus to start the thrashing from all ya'll that were so excited to see it that

I didn't get into spoilers cause I know people haven't yet to see it and want to. 10/10? Really? Watch it again when you're in the mood to pay attention and try and follow everything that's going on. And for reference I loved TDK, Batman Begins, The Prestige, but aside from those I feel like Nolan has become very hit or miss. Just a honest opinion.

I thought it was very good. There were obvious plot holes and at least one scene edited out of order. (The scene where Jim Gordon is "exiled") No biggie. The acting was terrific, the direction was great, the script very tense. Of the three films I though this was Bale's best performance. Overall you have to forgive plot holes and inconsistencies, suspend disbelief and just go with it, the emotion and what it is trying to say is quite strong. In some ways it is so serious and at times

Loved it, wanted more Catwoman, but it was great. Tatealia was done well, and I liked JGL and Hardy as well. But yeah, wanted to see Selina rob someone random before Bruce, and maybe a news report about her calling her "catwoman" once.

I really liked it

Not the definitive Batman, but a really awesome take. Great wrapup to the trilogy. My favorite part was The Bat. So sick. My second favorite part was Mairanda's MASSIVE RACK.

Not phenomenal but it is a GREAT Film!

This was a fantastic Batman Trilogy. Christopher Nolan has put together and amazing Batman Trilogy. Do I think this movie surpasses THE DARK KNIGHT? No. But what a film this was. Dark, epic, intense and exciting. I think Anne Hathaway nailed Catwoman. Everytime she was on screen she just owned it. It has it's flaws, some things predictable but some nice surprises and twists. Though not a phenomenal film but it is a GREAT film. Well done Mr. Nolan you have certainly risen to one of the most

Great...but flawed.

Many parts of this movie I enjoyed, others left me underwhelmed. Bane was great, as was Catwoman. The story was centered on Bruce Wayne as it's always been. The sacrifices, the pain, the dedication of Bruce are all there. Yet I was never attached to the movie like I was with Begins and TDK. Some of this has to do with the predictability of the characters involved( you can't say you didn't see some of those revelations coming from a mile away). Some has to do with the plot/ overall threat of the

Loved the Bat wing though it seemed slightly overused. My rating would be 9/10.

However people need to stop comparing this to the Avengers. Yes they both come from comic books but they're very different in how that material was applied to the screen. Avengers was pure popcorn enjoyment, Nolan's take on Batman was always about grounded reality. They're both fantastic in their own ways but not to be compared any further.

Cool how Batman is the only guy in all of Gotham with a flying vehicle. - Plot hole.
I think after all Gotham had been through - the league of Shadows and the fear toxin in BB and the Joker's terrorism in TDK, by the time TDKR comes around, they should know better than to believe anything bane says.
Still a great film.

Underwhelmed

I did like the movie, but I wasn't blown away by it like I was the Avengers. I liken it to seeing the Original Star Wars Trilogy for the first time. The first one sets up the universe and its rules, the second raised the stakes and blew everyone's minds with shocking revelations and brilliant performances, and the third tied up the loose ends and basically retreads the original movie. It was a satisfying bookend to the trilogy, a satisfying movie in and of itself, but not the masterpiece I

Easily Nolan's worst Batman movie. Maybe his worst movie in general. But the man still deserves credit. His worst movie is still better than most movies. Anyone who can't take a step back from the hype, objectively view the film and come out without seeing how mediocre it is compared to Begins or TDK is in denial. Or so blinded by their own hype, psyching themselves up for months prior to the film's release, acting like it's going to be the best movie ever put to film, that now they refuse

Dissappointed

I was thoroughly dissappointed with how the movie ended. I won't go into detail because I don't want to give away any spoilers, but suffice to say, as I watched the ending I thought to myself, "THIS is the ending that people were giving standing ovations for?" I was at a packed screening and not one person clapped or cheered throughout any part of this movie. It wasn't like "The Avengers" viewing where people actually did clap and cheer. I'm a HUGE Batman fan and I favor DC, so it pains me to

This movie was the equivalent of a one shot comic book story with no continuity. DC and WB may as well just put a hold on any plans for a Justice League moive until they learn from Marvel how to do it right.

I have to say the Avengers was more fun and entertaining, plain and simple. TDKR is still incredibly moving. I found some of the elements of TDKR to be off-putting. But I think it is a triumph of will.

the movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It was 44 minutes too long and their were so many parts that just dragged on. The villians were great and it had such promise, but I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

It was good...

But it didn't blow me away. I thought it was a well put together film (my score 8 outta 10). I felt that the time frame the story takes place in could have been handled smoother (i.e. wrapping up about 3 months of movie time in a fifteen minute time span). Also, while Tom Hardy was great as Bane, I really could have used a massive final fist fight instead, uh, bullets. Plus, me and my buddy had already pegged the Tate and GJL twists before ever walking into the theater.

This is how you end a trilogy, folks! Nolan and company manages to deliver an epic, all-out spectacle, without sacrificing character and storyline. I like how "Rises" ties back to the previous movies, making every film essential in their own right. Christian Bale kicks ass again as the Batman, after being slightly sidelined in TDK. Tom Hardy was a frickin' beast in the film, and sure showed that he can stand among the greats like Liam Neeson and Heath Ledger. Hathaway delivered as well, really

Even the bit players like JGL and Marion Cotillard held up well, without being unnecessary or annoying. It's not perfect (some fat could have been trimmed), what more can you ask when you have a more than satisfactory conclusion to a trilogy?

After watching it a 2nd time . . .

I liked it better.

I still think it's an enjoyable movie. I love Tom Hardy's portrayal of Bane, and Anne Hathaway stepped it up as Selina Kyle. Michael Caine's performance owned everyone!

I'm not a rabid Batman fanboy, nor do I worship the ground Chris Nolen walks on but, after reading some of the other comments, I think there are a lot of people who had their minds made up about the movie (good or bad) long before even watching it. Personally, I felt the movie did what it was supposed to do and that was to end this version of the Batman series. I don't see it falling into the "curse of the trilogies," but a solid end to a nice story. I suppose one could compare it to "Return of the Jedi:" There were a lot of awesome parts in the movie, but a few details, characters, and/or subplots that may not have been necessary to some of us viewers.

Sorry, but so disappointed!

So many seem to love this film. But what I saw this afternoon was another overly crammed trilogy finale (AKA Blade 3, Spidey 3...) that was just very poorly plotted. I barely understood or at worst didn't care about any characters motivations. Some of Bane/Tate's decisions after taking Gotham are just plain retarded. The dumbest "unescapable" prison ever. I could go on but I think I'm going to get nailed for this as it is. I really really love Nolan's films but this?! I really expected

The Dark Knight Rises

In my opinion, The Dark Knight Rises took what was great about each of the first two in Nolan's series and he combines them to make the best in the series. Batman Begins had a great story arc for Bruce Wayne and The Dark Knight was a great crime saga. The Dark Knight Rises has both! If Nolan continues on his current trend, he'll go down as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time.

TDKR was splendidly awesome. Saw thrice already and it got standing ovation all the three times ! Everyone was emotionally charged in this movie and that is a huge accomplishment. When I came outta the hall i felt Joy, satisfaction and was proud of the entire series.

Best of the 3.

I actually thought it was the best of the 3.

Bane was diabolical. He took over the city! That never happens (not since Superman 2) and you never wanted Batman to come back more than in this movie. This is like the Star Wars trilogy everyone likes the first one and Jedi, but they say Empire is the best. But I always liked Jedi the best and same goes here. I was just more emotionally involved in the plight of the city and Batman rising to defeat the villains.

The whole RISE situation was interesting, maybe a statement from Nolan about his own rise to prominence in his industry, that Bruce Wayne HAD to believe enough in himself to climb from the pit WITHOUT the rope. His only chance, make it or die. It meant he really did want to live, to rise, he had a reason.

My opinion is that there are elements of this film that are SO WELL done (particularly in Christian bale's performance) that it makes up for shortcomings in

Great, but not as good as TDK

TDKR was awesome. Entertaining, exciting, a great story. I'll see it again! but to be [link] joker...TDK....can't be beat. I really missed his violin/metal scratch-like noise that was played when you know the joker was nearby or going to do something. I miss hearing about how he got those scars. Or the video "LOOK AT ME!!" TDKR made me appreciate TDK even more. I will see TDKR again, and buy it. But TDK was really something special.

Well Done

If you are a fan of Batman the comic book series then you have to be a little bit giddy at the ending of this trilogy. With some great writing they managed to take bits and pieces of 4-5 great modern day batman stories and turn them into one great series of films. This isn't the greatest movie ever, there are some moments you have to suspend your belief more than a bit, but if you are a fan of early/mid 90's to modern day batman comics like I am the piecing together of all the different story

And now here is the BUT...

because there are elements of so many different stories going on here, they could have easily made a 2 part film out of this. By putting all these elements into one film you really handcuff the writers and sacrifice some of the emotional impact I think.

my opinion

I know i might get some flak for this but, although a good film, i have to agree that it felt rushed, seemed that way from the beginning. I like how it ties into the first film and a bit of the second. Wasnt a fan of the ending. All and all, good film, but not my favorite comic movie of the year. Didnt leave the theater feeling the way i did when i saw the avengers, but those two are two totally different comic movies, while im on the subject, wasnt impressed with spiderman either, and ive been

Honestly...

It's neither the greatest of the three films nor bad at all.

Christian Bale was more brilliant here than in TDK, which was obviously 'conquered' by The Joker. He got more screen-time compared to him in TDK, but somehow leveled with... JGL's screen-time? Yeap, this movie could have gone 'Gotham: John Blake Rises'. Other cast were great too but my favorite would be Alfred. Damn! That performance should win him something. Michael Caine truly nailed it.

TDKR felt both draggy and rushed at some points (JGL's bus scene is pointless and too many characters made it draggy a bit), got some cliche moments, but in the end, for me, the storyline matters and Nolan did a good job at it. I rate it 4/5 stars =)

(Add Leonardo DiCaprio in this, TDKR would be Inception in Gotham)

Herky-Jerky (Spoilers may ensue)

Here's the thing. It was too much. Way too much. I was with it until the second act rushed through five months of time. I got the sense that this was supposed to tell the story of Gotham itself, but it missed. It felt rushed. I would honestly have preferred this film to be split into two movies. Then maybe the big twist with the villains at the end might have held more emotional weight, but there just hadn't been enough screen time to develop it. We were forced to learn a lot about the

We were forced to learn a lot about the Catwoman through Wayne's research in his computer, rather than in some more interesting fashion.

I will however say Bane was fantastic. And for the climax to their first battle, that pose looked straight out of the comic book sequence. All the acting was great, and as always Nolan shot and framed a visual masterpiece.

Also, who didn't see the final scenes coming from some of the earliest moments in the film?

Dissapointed

I really was disappointed with this one. I didn't think it came close to the others. That being said there were some really joy filled moments but I didn't like the character developments, mostly Bruce who felt weak the whole film. JGL was awesome every moment he was on the screen. Hatheway nailed it and Gary Oldman continued his perfection. Tom Hardy is an amazing actor but I just didn't get in to Bane, and I love him in the Comics. So, go ahead and thumb down me, i'm sure there will be a lot.

Epic from beginning to end

It would be a 10 for me. I was invested in it from the very beginning. It's not a perfect movie at all, but for me what little problems it did have didn't out weight the incredible, emotional and epic moments it did have. I thought while there wasn't one stand out like Ledger, the cast as a whole was all around great. The music was fantastic and the pace was terrific. When it was over I couldn't believe it was 2 hours and 45 minutes. It didn't seem like it was. This is how a trilogy should

I would recommend seeing it again though, the first time may feel like people will watch and see if it fulfills the hype they have for it. It could leave others disappointed, another viewing could be a less cloudy way to watch it if that makes any sense.
This is what I think though. I've read alot of people's opinions and think they are great. One thing I enjoy alot about the site is the interaction and seeing what others think. Good job all.

I love how anyone who doesn't bow down to Nolan and his third Batman outing, is wrong.

7/10. Or 8/10 at best.

I simply did not like that film as much as the other 2. Nolan is a great director, the cast was great, but the story did not deserve that much talent. First of all, Nolan fell into the trap of the other trilogy by having too many characters. Batman is less the anchor he was in the first 2 films and more like the most important character of an ensemble. This doesn't fit the franchise as much as the Avengers. Also better fitting to the Avengers is the war movie genre. Also, there is a "plot

When the movie works, it works really well but I was never bored while watching the first two films. Here, there was a long stretch during the middle where I looking at my watch, hoping the story would get back to Bruce Wayne already. A good film? Definitely. But Nolan had me expect more than merely good.

Terrible Disappointment

Uninteresting, cliche villains, shoehorned attempts at sentimentality and one of the dumbest plot twists in the history of cinema make this a failed attempt by Nolan and company to wrap up properly what had been a fine attempt at a trilogy until this point. The curse of the number threes lives on. Who would have thought it?

Totally lame villains. And Bane goes out like a bitch. I was glad when he was gone though because I couldn't understand half the shit he was saying.

Miranda Tate was completely shoe-horned in and her arc was so predictable and corny I could hardly stand it.

(SPOILER)

And Batman survives and atom bomb?!!! Give me a fucking break. It's like they killed him off and had second thoughts after screening it for the Warner brass.

Just weak.

Excellent.

Found myself very emotionally invested in this movie. The film could have been about an hour longer to complete a few of the shorter scenes (Bruce's journey back to Gotham). My real biggest cringe was the "legal" name. They could have gone with....Terry. Also, I'm not going to compare it to the other films. For me the film didn't drag on though I've only seen it once. At least a damn good movie, and lots to like, but I felt a lot of the plotting was messy and thematically I don't know if it will resonate with me like the first two. Too much, maybe? Still enjoyed it, and I'm hoping a second viewing might help a bit.

Sloppy Writing

Sorry, Batfans, but this thing was such a pile of shit. I loved The Dark Knight, but the writing on this one was all over the place. I mean, come on, Batman disappears the same time that Bruce Wayne holes up in his mansion for 8 years. I couldn't understand Bane half the time, and the other half I was sorry I did. Predictable crap. And on top of it all, with the exception of the last half hour, I was bored to tears. Weak sauce, Mr. Nolan. I'd like a redo please.

Not really. What I meant is that you probably didn't hear the part in the movie where Bruce Wayne invested in something and it failed, which gave him the perfect excuse to not go out in the open.

Read my review bro, you would know that I wasn't 100% sold on this movie like everyone else, I thought it was good, but I didn't think it was any better than The Dark Knight (which I liked more).

Wrong in every way possible, Jason. Because someone has higher standards than you, doesn't mean they are a "troll". Real mature, guy. Yes, I did not like the movie, but for someone reason rabid fans can't respect another person's opinion and go berserkers when someone makes them question their own judgement.

It was weak. I didn't attack anyone's character, so step off of mine. This is still the United States for another few months, ya know.

The perfect ending, to the perfect story

There may be spoilers in this review -- I am tired and could have by accident put in a few things here and there. If you haven't seen the movie...what is wrong with you? Nah, just kidding, just don't read the review below if you haven't seen it.

The Dark Knight Rises: 9/10
My review:

I loved every second of this movie. Everything worked so well together and I think that this story was 75% about Batman and his struggles and 25% about Gotham having to stand up for itself. There were a few (1-2) scenes that I didn't fully understand and that I will probably need to watch again so I can get a better grasp of them. Bane is an epic villain and he does rival Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight. The Joker was a funny, always wanting to destroy everything for no reason psychopath. As Alfred has once said, "Some men just want to watch the world burn". Bane was a strategist. He knew what the mission was and he was very strong both physically and mentally. He may not have been as entertaining as The Joker to watch, but he was incredible to root against as a true scary villain. One problem was his voice. I still had a problem with some of the scenes where Bane had dialogue. I watched the movie in IMAX hoping it would enhance the voice issues but I don't think it helped. I would say maybe 10% of what his lines were mumbles to me and they made his voice super high which was a little bit of a turn off during some scenes as well. I will be watching the movie 2-3 more times while it's in theaters to see if it can grow on me.

In my opinion, Anne Hathaway was brilliant as Selina Kyle, but kind was normal to me as the Catwoman. This is just my opinion, but she was sexier without the costume (except for all the scenes where she was bent over on the cycle).

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was phenomenal as a...a police officer lol
Marion Cotillard was great.
Gary Oldman was again amazing as Commissioner Gordon
Michael Caine almost got me to cry by the end of the movie, which rarely happens (/sniffle sniffle)

I thought the ending was superb and a great way to end it. Of course, I would love to have Nolan and Bale team up to make another 3-5 movies for everyone but I get it, too much of a good thing and all...

Updated 7/22:

Saw the film again (not in IMAX) and loved every second of it once again. I actually understood every word Bane said this time around because it wasn't so loud that it kind of became a mumble in some scenes. I will say that IMAX is better for picture and sound obviously but I just wanted to see if it'd make a difference in Bane's voice.

2 things that I should have mentioned when I first wrote the above review. There were two characters that I thought were pretty horribly cast (just my opinion). Again these 2 guys have smaller roles so it shouldn't matter but I wanted to point it out for shits and giggles:

Ben Mendelsohn as Daggett just annoyed the hell out of me.
AND
Matthew Modine as Foley was a bad call.

But like I said, saw it twice now, once in IMAX and once without, and both times this movie really blew me away. Oh and both times Michael Caine almost made me cry at the end haha.

This movie was MUCH better than The Dark Knight. TDK had the Joker , yes, but the Joker was pointless. What was he trying to do? This movie made more sense because it was all about the League of Shadows getting revenge against Bruce Wayne. And, yes, Bane did break his back and leave him to die. Bane had absolutely no expectation of Batman coming back: Batman seemed well and truly defeated.

One thing that people seem to miss here when they make analogies with Occupy Wall Street is that Bane and his associates were the villains: this movie was actually very much supporting the 1%. Bane violently attaked the Stock Exchange and sent a billionaire (the hero) into poverty. He then turned rich people onto the streets and had them beg for their lives in a kangaroo court. The first two movies were very much supporting the 99% in that the police were shown as corrupt puppets of organized crime. Here the police were all heroes.

There is one thing that people might pick up on though if they watch all three movies together and that is that the League of Shadows always thought they were actually helping Gotham. How exactly were Bane and Talia helping Gotham by blowing it up? Presumably all of Bane's men trusted Bane NOT to blow the city up and Bane and Talia were just nuts. Bane wasn't excommunicated because he loved Talia: he was excommunicated because he was nuts. Presumably the League was following Bane because Talia was Ras' daughter and she ordered them to follow Bane. Okay, so that makes sense. Without the twist at the end with Talia being the one actually in charge it would be hard to understand why tyhe League was so loyal to Bane.

lol...

Movie had nothing to do with any political crap or opinion that everyone else is thinking of.

Joker was a psycho who wanted to watch the world burn...he didn't have to have a point to his motives, that is who the Joker is dude.

Also, this movie wasn't just about the League of Shadows getting revenge on Bruce Wayne. The League of Shadows always had a target on Gotham City and from the start and Bruce Wayne just happened to be someone who they wanted to take out at the same

I can understand people not liking this movie for a few reasons, but not to like it because you don't understand the story and read wrong signals of what the movie is trying to portray is ridiculous.

Yea Bane was following a certain plan while the Joker wasn't a panner, thats the point you seem to be missing and what makes the Joker the Joker and so awesome.

Joker wasn't a planner? How about when he broke out of the police station? Presumably he wanted to get caught so he could escape. And later when he had the bombs in the hospital and on the boat... How long in advance did he have to plan these things? He was arrested and as soon as he broke out he told everybody he had a bomb in a hospital and everybody believed him. Same with the bomb on the boat. No, sorry, TDKR was much, much better.

That being said, the timer on the bomb was silly.

That being said, the timer on the bomb was silly. Wouldn't it have been nice if the Japanese had had months to fix their reactor after it went off line? And, yeah, just reattach the core and that would have been okay; well we didn't see that; that would have been silly. Oh and they carry the bomb out to see. What about the radiation? The blast had a six mile radius but people outside the blast radius could still be affected by the radiation. I actually thought Batman could have dropped the bomb in the water because, as bad as it would have been for marine life, it would have sank like a rock and Batman would have been safe. Oh but we had to think he was dead. Anyway, how did Wayne get zoning permission to build a fusion reactor in Gotham City?

So, yeah, it wasn't perfect but Nolan made the right choices.

Awesome

I went to the marathon event on Thursday night. After The Dark Knight Rises finished, I was on the fence about the whole thing. Friday morning, I went to see it in IMAX. Seeing the film for a second time, everything flowed a lot better for me. Having Bruce Wayne as the main focus of the film was the right way to do this. There was no way I could judge this movie with only seeing it one time. I can honestly say that I'd give this film a 9 out of 10.

9/10 from me. The whole trilogy is the synonym for the word "epic" or "awesome". The Dark Knight Rises is sure worth the price of IMAX ticket. It gives you a sense of action on epic proportion. I don't know how Nolan and co. did it but Bane looks more beefed up than the trailer or any clip would make you think. Miss Hathaway plays Selina Kyle with confident and as cunning as possible. JGL also holds his ground firmly. I gave this one 9/10 because of the end where JGL's character's real name is Robin? I thought Nolan and Bale didn't want to do Batman movie with Robin involved, although this one is just a mention of the name. Overall, I love it! By the time the movie ends, I clapped as long as I can. An exciting, epic conclusion to Nolan's Batman trilogy. Well done, Mr. Nolan!

RISE

I know a lot of people will disagree with me when I say that "THE DARK KNIGHT" was waaaaay overrated.
Heath Ledger was AWESOME as The Joker and Christian Bale is a phenomenal Batman but, I thought it was a rather lame story it also had a lot of B actors doing a lot of B acting. However, I DID NOT hate the movie at all
I just didn't get in on the hype as much as I wanted to. And as much as I like Aaron Eckhart, I thought he was one of THE worst choices to play Harvey Dent/ Two-Face. I thought

I thought that "BATMAN BEGINS" was a much, much better film with the exception of Christopher Nolan's version of The Scarecrow which should have (I believe) been a lot better.
That being said, "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES" is (again, in my opinion) the best Batman film in the Nolan Trilogy and hands down the VERY BEST Film This Year. It was not to mention the Best Batman Movie EVER MADE! I absolutely LOVED "THE DARK KNIGHT RISES"! It was one of those extremely rare movie going experiences where I got more and more excited once the shit started to hit the fan and had goose bumps whenever BANE was on the screen. BANE was the Best villian I've seen and the plot stuck relatively close to the DC Comics KNIGHTFALL series from 1993-1994 which was the best Batman story ever. Period.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was worth every single penny I paid to see it and more. I cannot reccomend this film enough. There were a few complaints I have with the film (and this IS a film) but, they are nothing smalll when I think about them and the over all movie was nearly perfect. That's the first ime I've been able to say that about a film since Oliver Stone's "JFK" way the hell back in 1991 even though I didn't see it till '95.
GO SEE THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. A-

I like it a lot where Bruce/Batman was sent to prison and must take the leap in order to escape. It's very close to the Knightfall storyline where Bruce needs to learn to take a leap from the top of the building without any fear. That put a smile on my face :]

OK,JUST NOT MIND BLOWING!

The problem here is that the film is way [link] brilliant and some great set pieces,It fell into the trap of being too long though, like the previous movie,at times it felt it was dragging along.I`ll probably watch this again on dvd in 6 months time when the hype has died down.Go see for yourself, just don`t expect to watch the best film ever!! Go see the Avengers, its a lot more fun.

A fitting end to a phenomenal trilogy.

While Batman Begins is still my sentimental favorite of the bunch, The Dark Knight Rises is a worthy third-act to the awesome trilogy built by Chris Nolan. It's gripping from start to finish, and I dare you to find me a comic book movie that pits a protagonist against more odds than Batman had to face in TDKR. It's an intense, gritty, glorious, heart-pounding three hours filled with so much emotion. Knowing that Batman Begins evolved into this makes me very happy. There's a true, solid arc at

There's a true, solid arc at play here, and once you've seen TDKR you can fully comprehend the vision that Nolan had for Batman since the beginning. It definitely has its flaws in terms of pacing and narration, and maybe it could use just a lil' more Batman, but overall the positives outweigh the negatives. Bane is no Joker, but he's a worthy villain to fill the shoes of the Clown Prince. I'll be seeing this many more times in the cinema, and it's a Blu-Ray buy for sure. All I can say is "Thank You, Mr.Nolan".

Most entertaining of the bunch...

because it goes way over the top, cuts down on some of the incessant score used in the other films and finds a slightly more textured tone. That still, cluttered and messy, lots of cliches, bad dialog, etc... glad this trilogy is over.

It was nothing short of brilliant. I left the damn theater speechless.....which is very rare cause I don't think that has ever happened to me before at a movie theater. Bane was just as brillaint and ruthless as his is in the comics and I think they picked the right man for the job. Everyone did a damn good job.....even Miss Collitard's role wasn't a complete waste of time. The writing was sharp and it made you think....name any movie this year, let alone a comic book movie, that has done

Still Dissecting this one...

There are spoliers so don't get upset if you read this. Bane blows the SHIT out of the mayor...see? I wouldn't go as far to say it's the worst of the three because "worst" implies it was a bad film and in fact it was very well made. There were though a few lines that seemed cheesy and forced and done in a way that seemed dumbed down for the audience namely the explanation for Maria Collitard's character in the third act near the very end. Her dying breath was pretty cheesed up too. I realize

I realize though it was a lot of content to put in this film for Nolan to wrap things up nicely but one thing I appreciated about his past films was the intelligence that was given to the audience. He assumed the people watching weren't complete idiots but this time it seemed he was going for a "wider" audience for lack of a better word? Also I'm sorry that it just so happened that Batman saved us from a nuke when Ironman just did that two months ago. Guess DC and Marvel's ideas of the ultimate sacrifice to save a densely populated city are quite similar. All in all enjoyed the film but will think on it more before giving it a definite rating.

I feel exactly the same about the dumbing-down. I didn't expect a Nolan film to try and signpost everything for an audience. In fact, doing so made plot inconsistencies more obvious.

Epic

While no one can top the Joker, Bane was a more than worthy foe. This was an epic ending to the series and brought together all of the elements that made the first two movies so popular (and tied them all together as well). There were a couple of twists, a lot of emotion and plenty of action. Nolan brought the story to a great conclusion which sets this trilogy apart from so many others.

Enjoyed it Immensely

? spoilers ?
As far as I'm concerned i couldn't have asked for a better conclusion.
This film had my emotions going, it portrayed Bane better then i could have imagined, was an excellent continuation from the previous 2 films, it was 1 continuous long story as oppose to 3 separate instalments.
Cant say more about the film aside from do yourself a favour and go watch this film.

Excellent!

I just finished watching The Dark Knight Rises, and I have to say: it's complicated, but intelligent, there are some twists (some adapted from the comic series), it has some slow points and they are made up with the action in the movie, and I think that this movie is the coup de grace for the Batman Trilogy by Christopher Nolan! Excellent work Mr. Nolan!

Loved it 9/10

I really don't know where to start. I loved both Begins and TDK, and I really don't get why people consider this to be Nolan's worst film (I think insomina is the weakest). Emotionally, Begins resonated the most for me, seeing why Bruce took up the mantle and how his obsession consumed him. TDK raised the stakes, with it's theme being escalation, and had an unpredictable whirlwind of a villain in The Joker.

My thoughts on TDKR:
Good -1.Barely felt it's running time 2.Bane turned up WAY

My thoughts on TDKR:
Good -1.Barely felt it's running time 2.Bane turned up WAY better than expected. Props to Hardy for his great performance. I was amazed at the physicality of his portrayal. Yeah he was jacked up, but standing at around 5'9, it takes a commanding screen presence to be able to scare the audience. And yes, he scared the crap out of me. 3. I was against having a catwoman in the trilogy but loved Anne at the end of it. 4. The return of the Batman. When the cops were chasing down the terrosts in the tunnel and the lights began to black out, you knew crap was about to get real. Cue Zimmer's music and Bale on the Batpod=instant goosebumps. 5. Old(er) Bruce kind of gave me Batman Beyond Vibes. Nice shoutout.

Bad- Really, for me the only drawback was having to see the film end.

Good luck trying to follow this trilogy. Nolan, you've done it again.

Great ending

I could compare it to the previous installments but that isn't what we're talking about right now. As a Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises was really great. There were some slower and/or redundant parts but overall it was an emotional and thrilling end to a excellent trilogy of films. 8/10
PS Hats off to Chris Nolan for putting time and effort into what would have probably been an instant moneymaker, knowing to end the series instead of releasing a bunch of inferior sequels, and for avoiding

Fantastic! Great end to the trilogy. Wasn't initially wowed by the choice of Bane for the villian , but now I'm glad they did, as he served as a great alternate to Heath. Trying to create another Joker-esc villian would have been a bad idea.

And love me some Hathaway Catwoman.

Good, but not great (8/10)

A fine end to this trilogy but had enough flaws to be the weakest of the three films. Still a great film none the less.

I'm definitely a Nolan fan don't get me wrong but I feel that 10/10 is saying that the movie is without a flaw which it is not. I don't want to load this post with spoilers but will agree that it is my least favorite of the 3 and yes, probably Nolan's worst film (not to say its bad.)
However, Anne Hathaway rocked the roll of Catwoman!

OMFG People...

I can't believe I enjoyed this more than TDK. I was blown away. I thoroughly enjoyed BW's story more in this film than in any of it's predecessors. This franchise is definitely one long film. Nolan's Batman franchise is the LOTR of superhero movies. I liked Bane more than I thought I would. He was very believable as a villain in this world that has been created, and ruthless to no end. They wrapped the franchise up beautifully. All the characters worked very well, and had strong motivations.

Side note: Anyone can say what they want. Opinions are opinions, and the only one that matters to me for this movie is my own. The movie was AWESOME!

I thought this film was just okay. I just didn't find the characters as interesting this time compared to the first two films. My expectations were too high I think, but hey if you thought this film was amazing or a masterpiece that's cool I guess.

I never thought a Batman film would make me cry, but Nolan's TDKR did. That says something about the journey he took us on and the way this final film concluded. Bravo.

Unfortunately and to my own dismay, I didn't really like this film.

It was very messy, had a lot of underdeveloped characters(except for Gordon-Levitt) and was pretty boring for long stretches. I'm not sayinig it's a bad film. It is allright. But it's nowhere near the league of Batman Begins or the Dark Knight and in my opinion definitely Nolan's worst film to date. I really wanted to like it more, but that's the way I feel about it. Lower your expectations and you might enjoy it(Icertainly hope you do!)

The movie will suffer

i think this movie will suffer a lot because of the shooting this morning and it`s sick that someone would do such a thing to innocent people trying to enjoy a quality film with family and friends. movies are a way for people to escape from their day to day problems for a set amount of time and the fact that someone took it upon them self to ruin what movies mean to many is unforgivable . i think that man should be put in a dark cell and forgotten it`s the only fitting punishment. Anyone giving this a 10/10 needs to get off the band wagon and take a deep breath. I'm in no way trolling here. I thought the movie was great 7.5/10 but it was in no way perfect. It was worst of the three, which is still better than a lot of other tent pole movies. The adaptation of the comic source material was overlooked with every character. The performances were great but the third act was a bit lazy and felt dumbed down for the audience, also a bit redundant (TDK bombs on freighters).

Well she did say her name was Talia and she was the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul when she had that knife in Batman's side remember? I agree with your stance on it being dumbed down though. And midget Bane? You're gonna have to elaborate on that one.

Excellent way to end the legend. I'm a sucker for epic and emotional endings. It feels so good to be a Batman fan right now.

Wow.... Epic

This film was better than i ever thought it would be. After the final scene i had goosebumps i need to see it 3 more times but this film may replace The Crow as my favorite movie. Catwoman's costume made sense and works, Banes Dialog and way it is delivered turned out to be brilliant and not annoying, and lastly Joseph Gordon-Levitt does it again with great acting and really carries the whole film.

2 hours of clunky exposition missing all of the Nolan immediacy and subtext we've received in the previous two films, followed by an unbelievably epic and bold conclusion that makes the final 40 minutes worth the sloppy opening. I need a second viewing but right now its not only easily the weakest of Nolan's Batman films, but the weakest of Nolan's films period. Still a solid 7.5/10

Don't know why your getting so many thumbs down for such a thoughtful response but to piggy back off what you said, I knew something was bothering me about the beginning but you nailed it. It was long and drawn out and then ridiculously action packed towards the end.

I hate to be one of the only dissentients, but I personally think it's the weakest of the three. My biggest complaint with the film is probably the "Nuclear Fusion Bomb" plot device. It felt far too much like a cheap trick from an old Bond film. The 5 day countdown with an actual clock ON the device took me out of the film every time it was shown. I wish they'd made a reference to it taking a more inexact time, such as "5 Days, 3 Hours, 28 Minutes & 10 Seconds" with the green to red

Then, maybe Bruce could have a countdown watch or something similar. However, perhaps that's silly too. The entire script just didn't work for me. I think that Bane was dispatched in an anti-climatic way and I wish the final fight between he and Batman could have been another minute longer considering they showed Bane kicking the shit out of him for what seemed like eternity. Also, how did Batman escape at the end? Or are we supposed to know? I could've sworn they showed him piloting it with Gotham in the background so he was clearly IN The Bat, right? Moreover, Michael Caine in France looking up and smiling, implying he saw Bruce should have been all that was shown. I actually didn't like the shot of Bruce & Selina. Best part for me: Bruce training and escaping.

i can agree totally i hate the way that bane was dispatched i didn`t really care for the way bw back was broken it wasn`t as epic as it should have been . tdkr was by no means better than tdk but it was a decent way to end a stellar franchise though i will say i thought the ending seemed a little thrown together i`d have preferred they call jgl character dick and not robin . and i don`t much care for wayne ending up with selina kyle it felt forced

The escape from the bat is explained in that last scene with Fox. It's clearly said early on that the Bat has no autopilot, but in that last scene, the technicians tell Fox that Wayne has been modifying a prototype before. So, my guess is he also installed an autopilot on the Bat and escaped before the explosion, thus faking his dead and making sure no one goes after his loved ones again.

I think with 40 mins cut from the running time it had the potential to be better than TDK, because if you rewatch that film there are some wildly implausable plot twists (or The Joker is psychic?) Anyway, I agree with what you say about the ending, I felt like they were patronising the audience with that last shot of what Caine was looking at.

Caine and Oldman for best supporting. Both were superb in the emotional scenes. Great film, not as good as TDK, but damn close.

As far as I'm concerned, I think the cast member with the best chance at awards here is Anne Hathaway.

I don't think you're going to see any acting nominations from the film. Everyone was uniformly great, but no hands-down standouts like Ledger in TDK that could propel them over the Academy's genre bias. However I think you can count on it grabbing nominations for Cinematography, Visual Effects, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and probably also Film Editing and Art Direction - maybe Original Score as well. It will need to beat The Avengers in box-office to get a shot at Picture, and even then it's

There were a few moments that may have been preposterous and didn't seem "real" as Nolan has tried to do with this franchise, but then again, it's a movie about a superhero, and the finale is supposed to be a BIG challenge for the main character. Also there were some ideas being tossed around on the net that I hated that did come to fruition, but they were done in a satisfying manner. Not as good as TDK, but definitely a perfect ending to the trilogy. My favorite trilogy since Indiana Jones.

Some Spoilers here, fair warning.

My reaction was mixed. The gadgets were neat and the acting was pretty decent all around, but the third act was a little too bombastic and "let's chase the macguffin around" for my taste. Definitely my biggest complaint though would have to be that it seems as though Nolan almost forgot about the existence of average Gothamites halfway through the movie, which is a shame considering how often they were depicted in difficult situations in TDK (I'm thinking about the ferry, of course). We as the viewer are never really given any sense of how bad things have gotten for the poor and disenfranchised in Gotham at this point as the rich live it up in their penthouses, and Bane's revolutionary rhetoric isn't interesting when he is speaking to more or less empty streets after his coup. I'm aware that he is being disingenuous in his promises to create a new order, but no one in Gotham save Batman, Lucius, Tate and Gordon actually know about the impending doom at any point as I remember it. IMO the movie would have been a lot more interesting and topical if some of the needy impoverished Gothamites (not just the hardened criminals in Blackgate) actually had risen up and answered Bane's call to redistribute the wealth. All we get is one brief scene of a few rich people getting shoved out of an apartment, and after that the city is effectively deserted of civilians for the rest of the film ( I think that the orphans are the one exception). Nolan has stated that he was heavily influenced by "A Tale of Two Cities" while writing the screenplay, but to me it seems as though you can't really make an honest film about class conflict without having anyone but foreign mercenaries and the incorruptible police show up for the battle at the end.

When Wayne talks about "my city," its not the bricks and mortar or the infrastructure he wants to protect, its the people. The soul of the city. The average citizens couldn't join Bane even if they thought his intentions were noble because in the eyes of the audience they would effectively be supporting a terrorist. They would be corrupt by association. This is true for the fact that passengers on the Ferry couldn't detonate the bomb on the prisoners ferry in TDK. The soul of the city needs to be worth fighting for or else Waynes crusade is redundant. If Bane had cut off the food supply to the city and let starvation and desperation do to the people what Ra's al Ghul chemical attack in Batman begins was designed to do AND made Wayne watch as the average people tore themselves asunder, there would be no coming back. How does Batman "save" a man who has murdered for bread?
So instead, as you rightfully point out, we got foreign mercenaries v the incorruptible police. Terrorist v The State. A very black and white showdown that doesn't fulfill the ambitions of the story.
Incidentally, its this writing corner that necessitated Wayne loosing his fortune. They couldn't have a billionaire fighting against an organisations whose apparent goal is the destruction of a social system where the very few are have everything. It would have been laughable.

You make some interesting points for sure @rockstothechest, I can definitely see how the Nolan bros. painted themselves into a corner on this one. It seems to me then that the difference then between TDK and the last movie in the trilogy is that the average people of Gotham are not even afforded an opportunity to discuss the nature of Bane's takeover, at least on screen where we the audience are privy to it. I just feel as though even a few short scenes of average, down-on-their-luck citizens in their homes or public spaces discussing whether or not to participate in Bane's social restructuring would have done wonders for the movie's pathos, which in my opinion is pretty lacking (crying Michael Caine excepted). Even if they universally had ultimately decided no, that Bane was a terrorist and that they would not negotiate with terrorists or whatever, it would have made the city seem so much more alive and worth saving than it did to me. The Ferry in TDK is one of the two or three most powerful scenes in that particular movie because we get to see the dark heart of the civilized man backed into a corner on display, if only briefly. It's immaterial that they chose not to blow each other up in the end, it was the very fact that they actually had a heated discussion as to whether or not they could justify killing hundreds of people and voted yes that's interesting. The natural extension of that same logic in the third movie should have been that the excesses of democracy can lead the average citizen down some pretty terribly dark roads if let run rampant or placed into extreme scenarios, a la the reign of terror in the French Revolution. Nolan definitely did his best to make the comparisons between the French Revolution and Bane's takeover obvious (the Bastille scene at Blackgate, Crane's courtroom, etc.), but apparently he didn't have the stomach to put the "Terror" into the revolution. Even if some people had chosen to go along with Bane and thus had become complicit in the terrorist action and made irredeemable, the fact that a majority actively chose not to if shown would be reason enough for Batman to return to save the city. As it was, it came across as though Batman came back to save the city because he's Batman and that's just what Batman does, not because Nolan had any particular affection for Gotham's citizens or really any thoughts about them at all.

Am I the only one that really thought it just wasn't that good? It was too ambitious - it came out sloppy. The performances were bad (which was really unfortunate because the cast is stacked). I'm not at all saying "it's miserable, don't go see it!" I'm saying considering the talent behind this film, it's disappointing.

When JGL killed the two construction workers, looked at his gun with horror and cast it aside, I snorted. (Moments later he is packing a shotgun!!) Though to be fair, plenty of people here seemed to have a really good time and I wouldn't begrudge them that. I'm going to give it a week and see it again.

I feel the exact same way, well said. Considering it was Nolan I was very disappointed. My least favorite of his movies so far. He was batting close to 1.000 though so this doesn't mean I won't be lining up for this next. Just very surprised considering what a huge step forward TDK was from BB.

Bad performances? Thats a first I heard for this film. The only let down performance wise for me was Marion Cotillard. The rest was brilliant, especially Bale and Hathaway.

Yep, pretty much total agreement. Maybe it's not fair, but with a Nolan film my expectations were enormous and it didn't live up to them. Another cringe-worthy moment for me was when Bane and his thugs enter the nuclear reactor chamber and he asks the physicist whether he can weaponize it. One cut and maybe 30 seconds later we're back and the damn thing has been turned into a 4 megaton nuclear bomb. It's just such a "hey, remember that this is a movie" moment that it really broke my

It is really hard for me to form an opinion on this right now. Somewhere in the movie I was thinking to myself that this was not living up to expectations but by the time it was all over I was like HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME! Have to see it again.

great film but

it was a great film for sure but i actually prefer the dark knight cause that one had obviously a better villain and a better actor playing the villain not to mention it wasn't as overlong and frantic but still bane was a great villain and the action was amazing and even though the last act dragged on for to long, sort of like transformers;dark of the moon's third act it's still an entertaining summer blockbuster. But i still think the avengers is the superhero movie of the year and the dark

Amazing.
Yes there's problems with it, there's a lot going on but you get over it due to the spectacular action sequences, wonderful performances and all with the perfect ending. That last scene had the audience applauding.
Extra cheer to the brilliant Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy.

But damn the Man of Steel teaser was not good except for the last few seconds, it reminded me of that fishing show (deadliest catch?)

9/10 - Doesn't quite rise to the level of TDK, but it doesn't need to

A bit bloated (could have cut a subplot or two), structurally problematic (felt like a two-act movie), and it wasn't as thematically focused as the previous installments. However, it's technically astounding, the action as thrilling as anything you've seen in the last 5 years, and the performances were superb (Anne Hathaway was the MVP for me). Will need to see it again before I settle my feelings on it but Nolan's done for comic books what Peter Jackson did for fantasy. The Dark Knight trilogy

8.5/10... A lot to like, a few things to wince at.

I must temper my hype meter next time. While the movie was very good, there were so many "huh?" moments that it was distracting. I've since come to fill in a few of the plot holes myself through logical deduction (i.e. why Bane's army was so loyal to him), but my main gripe is how they handled Alfred. I felt like he needed to be the focal point for the emotional development and he was... just not in the movie enough.

Possible spoilers

There were a lot of things great about this movie and a lot of things just good about it. The best part was that Bane.. scared the shit out of me when he was on screen. I thought Batman wasn't in it a lot, which sucked. I fucking loved the first fight scene with Bane and Batman... thought the climatic fight scene with police and mercenary's was spectacular but ended with a pretty fast fight scene with Bane and Batman. I loved how Catwoman was actually essential to the plot. I liked Banes origin

I didn't like that Alfred wasn't in it a lot, and the fact that I saw the ending coming with Alfred gave his little speech about him going to that Cafe. All in all, this movie ended on a perfect note. The ending with Joseph Gordon-Levitt was just pure amazement. Was better than TDK, well for me, no, but it's still one of the best movies to come out this year.. right below The Avengers. Fantastic movie and beautiful movie.

8/10

Didn't expect it to be such a direct sequel to the other films, which was great. The negatives: too long (e.g. Matthew Modine's character could have been completely cut), the attempt to tie-up loose ends damaged the emotional impact of the ending (e.g. Michael Caine's performance had me in tears, and then...) and the music was bland, uninspiring. I know it's not hip to criticise Hans Zimmer, but there were a couple of very dramatic moments that would have been elevated to goose-bumps by great

It was often distracting, e.g. a key line of Joseph Gordon Levitt's was completely drowned out.

I really enjoyed the film and thought it was amazingly assembled. Christopher and Jonathan Nolans' blend of sophistication, thematic elements and sheer, explosive spectacle is in full force and they seem to have learned a lot from Inception, as the action scenes are quite a few steps up from those in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. This movie doesn't have Heath Ledger's Joker to count on, but on the whole I preferred it to its two predecessors because of how well the daunting scope of the

It also is a perfect final bow for Nolan and co, the film's ending was very well-executed.
