What did you think of...The World's End?

Aug. 24, 2013by:

There's nothing quite like the completion of a trilogy. Sometimes it delivers (LOTR: RETURN OF THE KING) and sometimes it doesn't (THE MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS), but one of the most anticipated of them all is likely to also be the safest bet. Edgar Wright's finale to the Three Flavours Cornetto (aka The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy), THE WORLD'S END is finally here and we can all find out how it stacks against its predecessors SHAUN OF THE DEAD and HOT FUZZ. Is it better, worse, or right in line? We've covered the film extensively with trailers, tv spots, interviews, and even a sweet Top Ten list of what we'd like to see these guys do next. We also have Eric Walkuski's review from Comic Con and another from our man, JimmyO. Even The Arrow dropped his thoughts, with everyone favoring the final chapter immensely. Check out our interviews with director Edgar Wright and stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost below!

As this is the last hurrah of the summer, we want to hear what you guys thought of THE WORLD'S END. Did it live up to the hype? Does it close the trilogy with style? Hit us back with your review in our strike back section below (or to your Movie Fan Central profile). We'll continue to update the scores from MFC and rotten tomatoes throughout the week, so check back and share your thoughts as you catch the film.

Movie Fan Central: 7 reviews, avg score: 8.3/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 162 reviews, avg score: 91%

Great to a point

The third act is pretty weak, I think I actually would have enjoyed it more had it simply been the same idea without the robots. Pegg as the man in arrested development trying to recapture that nights magic was really touching and heartbreaking and the humor was spot on. Didn't care for the ending or the scene with Bill Nighy's voice.

Terrible movie, glad it couldn't even crack the top 3 at the box office.

I think I need to watch it again possibly. I liked it a lot, but I think I'm getting a little sick of robots in movies. Pacific Rim, Iron Man, Wolverine, Elysium... All robots. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great film and worth seeing. I think I was just underwhelmed. I liked Hot Fuzz & Shaun both quite a fair bit more.

Loved it. Probably my favorite movie of the summer, that I have seen, other than Wolverine. Loved the first big action scene with the teenagers in the bathroom, so funny!

Terribly disappointed, easily their weakest film to date. Absolutely no reason to watch it again as it offered only a few big laughs.

Brilliant.

I absolutely loved it. Though Shaun Of The Dead is still the best of the 3 in my opinion, I'd have to put this over Hot Fuzz. But not only was this one of the best movies of the year, this is one of the best trilogies of all time.

Did anyone else go out for a pint immediately after the film?

Sideways = wine. Thank You For Smoking = cigarettes. The World's End = pints of beer
Immediately following the film's Thursday night release, despite my girlfriend and I having to work early in the morning, I drove us to the nearest Irish pub for some much needed pints of beer saying, "Come on, let's boo-boo!"
Later we hooked up in the disables;)

Great to see the roles reversed.

Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz both had Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in slightly similar roles. Loved the fact that Nick Frost got to play the more intelligent role, until he starts drinking, and Simon Pegg gets to play the extremely bumbling idiot. The World's End could end up being the funniest film of the year.

Boo boo.

Great. The ending is so out of nowhere! I absolutely loves this film... even if it hits a little too close to home.

Pretty Much Perfect

The best movie of the summer. This may have been the best of the Trilogy. I hope this isn't the last collaboration for Frost, Pegg, and Wright.

Loved it! But Hot Fuzz is probably my favorite. They also got the better James Bond in that one ;-)

It was good. But did anyone else noticed that it followed almost exactly the same formula as the movie Hot Tub Time Machine?

I agree 100%. I'm totally clueless as to how other people don't see this but it doesn't surprise me because its directed and written by Edgar Wright and he's become one of those directors that can do no wrong to many of his fanbase.

Bitter sweet and different. Being close to the age of the characters I could identify with the themes of the film. I hope this isn't the end of the "trilogy" but a new beginning. I want more films from Wright, Pegg and Frost as inspiration comes to them.

Fan-fucking-tastic. Favourite film of the year so far and an epic ending for the trilogy. Simon and Nick gave the best performances of their careers.

As much as I loved Pac Rim, this trumps it by a mile.

Pac was all style and fun, but with a nickel script. While The World's End had all the style and fun, plus a really tight script. TWE is also the first movie to actually have me cry laughing. Well done sirs.

It Was Really Good

Enjoyed the Hell out of it. I was surprised by how Nick Frost steals the show.
