What did you think of...X-Men: Days of Future Past?

May. 24, 2014by: Paul Shirey

It's been nearly three years since we've had an X-Men film in theaters and eight years since we had the original gang altogether. Now, with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hitting the big screen we've got the merging of two timelines, marking one of the biggest superhero casts ever assembled and a time-traveling epic tale that brings to life the classic "Days of Future Past" comics storyline, featuring the first big-screen appearance of the monstrous mutant slayers known as The Sentinels. The film also sees the return of director Bryan Singer to the franchise, picking up where he left off with X2: X-MEN UNITED and delivering an X-film that looks to deliver on the scope and size that is more reminiscent of the source material than its prior entries. Our own JimmyO championed the film in his video review, scoring it a 9/10, while Chris Bumbray seemed to feel about the same, giving it a 9/10 as well.

We've covered the hell out of the film so far, including trailers, TV spots, featurettes, etc., which you can catch up on here. In addition to having our own X-Men week, complete with X-themed columns and the like, we also featured a series of exclusive interviews with the cast, including Hugh Jackman, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page, Michael Fassbender, and James McAvoy, all of which you can check out by clicking the image below!

Now that you've traveled back and forth with the lates X-flick for yourself, we want to hear what YOU thought of it! You can POST YOUR OWN REVIEW of the film in the below strikebacks or on your own Movie Fan Central profile. Did it meet your expectations? Did it change your line-up of best to worst of the X-Films? Let's hear it! We'll continue to update the Rotten Tomatoes and MFC scores throughout the long Memorial Day weekend and see how well our favorite mutants fare!

Rotten Tomatoes: 192 reviews, avg score: 91%

My Short Review

Saturday we went to see X-Men: Days of Future Past. I was blown away. I may be biased as I was more excited to see this movie than anything else this summer and Days of Future Past is one of my favorite story arcs in comics. I set really high expectations, which surprisingly, Days of Future Past met.

Front to back, this movie executed to the best of its ability. It was able to create its own worth as well as amplify the power of the previous film, X-Men: First Class, and even the other films

It was able to create its own worth as well as amplify the power of the previous film, X-Men: First Class, and even the other films in Fox's X-Men franchise.

Taut from the beginning, the movie throws information at you and expects you to keep up. Its pace slows a bit after the opening sequence, using character introduction and early exposition to get you up to speed, only to repeat the process. This helps increase the sense of urgency in the story as well as driving home a couple of the films themes.

The film wastes very little screen time. Bryan Singer and the filmmakers show you that the one thing that's going to be more spectacular than the action sequences are the characters and story itself. Very few shots focus solely on the spectacle of the computer generated imagery (which is great-looking, by the way). The visual language of the film is consistent, the cinematography interesting, and most of all, the filmmakers never forget what the movie is: A character story; all of the action is still steeped in character (dat Quicksilver scene). In fact, the prettiest looking shots in the film are dialogue scenes and close-ups.

I think my favorite part of Days of Future Past is the writing and the acting. Whether it was in the beginning of the writing phase, or somewhere along the way, the filmmakers realized that they had some of the best actors working today, in roles large and small, and pretty much told them to turn the feels on full blast. Everyone turns in a sparkling performance, whether it was the sad and disconnected performance by Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, or the brilliant role reversal of McAvoy as the angry and emotionally unstable Professor Xavier, while Michael Fassbender plays the now calm and resolved version of Magneto he becomes. Then of course there is a small scene with McAvoy and Sir Patrick, which is giving me feels just thinking about.

All gushing aside, I have a couple minor complaints. Most of the major characters from First Class were written out, or more or less and afterthought. The elements of those characters are definitely hinting at the future of the story, whether it becomes tangible or not, which added depth to the film, but in a sense it also seemed tacked on to remind you that those characters mattered.

I also can't help but want more of the future story. I understand what it had to be to increase the tension of the story, but the most Oscars are on the future side of the story, and you can never have too much of Sir Patrick and Sir Ian. It would have also been really awesome to see more of the future mutants and understand their story, because [link]

X-Men: Days of Future Past is the best X-Men movie to date, but not just because of its own power and execution, but because the filmmakers did what I thought couldn't be done. Reverse the damage done by the not-so-great X-Men and Wolverine films.

Awesome!!!

I thought it was great just as expected. Jackman, fassbender, and McCoy were great as always. Only thing I was waiting for Was for them to explain more of the teaser clip after wolverine. explain how the professor came back after X-3. I understand the ending everyone is back because the future was changed... But how was he alive before it was changed? Not a huge deal to me.... I just thought they would explain that as well.

So before they do the Apocalypse story line i think they should do the XMEN story where they explain how he got back and how Magneto regained his powers , a film without wolverine (his missing days), and highlight more on other characters that would be great and maybe intro Gambit and the recasted Nightcrawler..

I'm glad they brought back CYCLOPS. The movie was much than I anticipated. I felt the pain Wolverine went through through those flashbacks. I m glad they have undid the WOlverine Origins film and I hope they re-visit that and do it right this time around. I am also glad they have undo the XMEN 3. Some of the beast stunts , like jumps looked weak and sketchy I hope they make it better the next time. Loved the Quicksilver sequence, loves this goofy Quicksilver but having said I am also excited

I like Bryan Singer to work on some of the stunt sequences. Oh also I would like Nightcrawler to return I wouldn't mind a recast either. And make Gambit cool as he was my favourite character as a kid ,he was cool.and bring back Angel just recast him, the last guy who played him is a and still is a creepo. Chris Hemsworth would be awesome as Angel.

Good job tying all the films together but not really that great a film on its own.
Never really recovers once Quicksilver leaves.
And we have to sit through all the credits to be rewarded with some guy playing with a Lego set?
The guys who do the "Everything Wrong With" on YouTube are going to have a field ay with some of the anachronisms.

So the big question I have; who are the new X-Men gonna be when Apocalypse comes out? Wouldnt mind seeing younger versions of the main original X-Men, though I doubt they bring in Iceman. Just wish they established Angel a bit more so he could get turned into Archangel.

Whereas I felt they did a decent job of trying to glue the two original X-Men movies together with First Class, I still wasn't entirely convinced that was something worth doing. I ended up enjoying Quicksilver's segment way more than I expected to, and probably preferred the 1970s stuff more than the futuristic scenes. I thought it was a solid 8 out of 10, or a 7 if I was being super picky, but trying to link all the movies together in this way, even though they did it fairly well, isn't

I was never a massive fan of Singer's X-Men films so there's a degree to which this was always going to feel like a step backwards to me, so all credit to the filmmakers for creating something I mostly liked.
(For the record, I went to see Godzilla on the same day and really enjoyed that.)

Having said that, this movie did seem to create a few plotholes. Did the first two X-Men films still happen? If so, why doesn't Beast know everyone when they meet up in those films. This film implies Azazel is dead - did Mystique ever hook up with him to create Nightcrawler?

Those are good questions, and I think the X-Men film franchise, with such massive lore, is bound to have holes in it, though I do think Days of Future Past attempted to answer them to the best of its ability. In the X-Men films, it is never solidly acknowledged that Nightcrawler is in fact the son of Mystique and Azazel. It is nodded to, but for all we know, Nightcrawler's origins are completely different (as Havok's probably are as well). I think some version of the first two X-Men films, with

I think some version of the first two X-Men films, with deviations from the versions we were presented with, probably did happen. To me, the main unanswered question was that there was no reconciliation of the two different versions of Bolivar Trask.

Guess that Trask was something Singer was happy to disregard. From a multi-film narrative viewpoint if Jean never became Phoenix and Cyclops (sorta) survived then Last Stand is retconned out of existence or could be viewed as another (the original) timeline in which maybe Trask had a different father or mother? Not my job to fix their movie universe for them, but if you had to unify all the films that's one way they could sorta justify it even if it is a bit lame.

May have been the best superhero movie ive ever seen. The acting was definitely the best, McAvoy, Fassbender and Jackman just own their roles. Marvel might as well cancel their version of Quicksilver because no way is the horrible wooden dude from Godzilla going to beat this one.

Loved it

My favorite x men flick. Epic, well written, great acting. My one complaint was that it's a bit too logan-centric. Haven't we seen enough of his storylines over the other movies?. The strength of first class was the dynamic between mcavoy and fassbender. Having logan in the middle of it all sometimes did not fortify it for me.

It was good.....

I enjoyed Winter Soldier and Godzilla more (and have no doubt HTTYD 2 and Guardians will both be much more fun), but it was probably the best X-Men film yet. The problem is, it was still an X-Men film, so it has limitations because of the focus of the genre. It's a lot like Star Trek, where the solutions are supposed as simple as people seeing a mutant do something self-sacrificing (despite the fact that another mutant just tried to murder hundreds of people on live TV to make a point). So suddenly people aren't going to worry about super-powered beings, despite the fact that so many are criminals and/or are extremely dangerous to everyone around them?

And someone explain to me again how Magneto suddenly knew how to use metal to brainwash robots he'd never seen (and has no particular electronic expertise in the first place)? So his power to control metal extends to seeing through the metal as it sneaks into robots locked away in a train car that he has to do through psychic touch? Really??? And someone already mentioned Kitty holding her position for somewhere around a week without a bathroom break, sleep, or getting any medical care for the mortal wounds she'd received over a day earlier.

But the future battle scenes were spectacular and Quicksilver was too cool. Also, McAvoy was simply wonderful as the best version of Professor X we've seen (sorry Mr. Stewart). So definitely worth a look on the big screen, but hardly a game-changer.

He can feel metal, he knows when it's around him even if he can't see it, and all he did was split the metal up throughout their bodies so he could control them via the metal.

You are gonna be that picky and literal about kitty and magnetos actions In the film.... Yet you enjoyed Godzilla more about 3 creatures made and survive on nuclear power??? Yeah that's more believable in a fictional movie!

Godzilla never claimed to be anything more than it was.....taking the theory of giant monsters, briefly coming up with a theory to explain their existence, then showing what would happen if they were unleashed on the world. There were no large leaps in logic other than the creation of the beasts, which has to happen for their to be a movie.

Kitty Pride holding a single position for a week without the need to eat, drink, sleep, pee, or get medical care for mortal wound? That's just sloppy,

Kitty Pride holding a single position for a week without the need to eat, drink, sleep, pee, or get medical care for mortal wound? That's just sloppy, lazy story-telling. Magneto magically using metal to change the robots' programming is completely ridiculous. The public suddenly embracing super-powered mutants because one does something brave (while another was just trying to murder hundreds and even picked up a baseball stadium with his mind) is the opposite of reality.

So yeah, I enjoyed Godzilla because it was a fun movie that had you leaving the theater in a good mood. X-Men was a well-acted film that attempted to explore complex themes of science-fiction and human nature with varying levels of success. It's ending didn't draw a resounding cheer from the audience, the solution to the problem was anti-climatic, and the numerous plot holes weren't fatal to the film, but hindered the overall enjoyment. Still worth seeing in the theater, but the best X-Men movie doesn't mean it's in the league of The Avengers or The Dark Knight.

As emotional as it is entertaining. Not just a great X-MEN film, but a beautiful retrospective on the almost 15 year journey we've been on with these characters. It gives us a sense closure for the original cast that we never got from X3, while breathing new, vibrant life into the franchise with the new cast. A great passing of the torch, with a hint of bittersweet nostalgia.

Aside from my thoughts being on par with most everyone else which needless to say was mindblowing, this was a pretty personal movie to me. In 2000, I saw X-Men with a group of buddies as I was entering my final year of college. We must've seen it at least 3 times that summer. At the time I was realizing one chapter in my life was coming to a close and a new one was about to open. Call me what you will but I am a "sentimental" movie goer. Today, upon seeing DOFP I felt like something had come full circle in my life. Here I was returning to that exact theater, nearly 14 years later. However, this time it was with my 8 year old daughter. She has been coming to shows with me since she could sit in a theater. It's a bond we have and essentially my best buddy. I reflected upon all that time from then till now and even the way the movie kinda brought their timeline full circle as well. It was one of my most appreciated movie going experiences and I wanted to share that with my fellow joblo'ers. Good night...

Questions answered

The main questions I went in with from the trailers (how do they time travel, how can young xavier walk, if Wolverine is the only one who can go back how can young and old Charles meet) were answered geniously to the extent that I whispered quietly "well played sir". Awesome to see some of the "old" X-Men on screen allbeit fleetingly. Though I was hoping for a wee bit more action, and I wonder would Mystique got quite as much screen time had Jennifer Lawrence not been so successful, but all in

Considering the comic on which this movie was loosely based involved an assassination attempt by Mystique, this was one of the few decisions that stayed somewhat true to the original. The Mystique in this movie may have been different, but her role as the one the X-Men go back in time to stop did play a part in the source material.

Still, what's wrong with Mystique having such a large role? Even if Jennifer Lawrence's fame had something to do with it, it was still justified considering the

9/10, Best X-Men Film Yet

As nearly a perfect X-Men that can possibly be made. I thought it was powerful and engaging and loved the way they balanced everything. I thought all the major and minor mutants had their time to shine and I appreciated the attempts to correct the mistakes in the previous films. I've read that many people are complaining about the lack of a "true villain" but I actually don't think the film needs it as its main antagonist is time itself. I've read that many people are complaining about the lack of a "true villain" but I actually don't think the film needs it as its main antagonist is time itself. The goal that the characters want is to change their future and their obstacles with the Sentinels are made much more dangerous because of their limited time. You also have the Sentinels and Magneto to an extent to spice things up. The only negative for me which isn't even that big a issue and just a pet peeve, is that while Wolverine was the driving force behind the film and front & center in most scenes, I felt he was very underused. Didn't do much as in the previous films and was quite tame but honestly we can't complain because he's already had two solo films to give us all that action. It just would've been nice to see a Wolverine with adamantium claws go up against a Sentinel to see how much damage he could do. Anyway I definitely thought it lived up to expectations and did not disappoint to a certain degree like Godzilla and Spider-Man did (I enjoyed both films btw!). Superb job all around by Singer, his crew and cast.

I saw it in 2D as it was half the price I think Mcavoy and Fassibender bring so much acting eye candy you don't really need special effects.

And I also think 3D is just shite generally.

The 3D on this was definitely better than the 3D on Godzilla. There's a scene where Magneto is levitating some train tracks; that did look great in 3D.

This was a great movie, with a nice balance between the characters of Wolverine, Mystique, Xavier, and Magneto. I'm glad to see a lot of people on here really liking the movie. Singer seemed to get a lot of hate on here for some reason, which is odd since I like most of his movies (even Superman Returns). As much as I love the original cast of the x-men trilogy, if this is the last film with them I'm happy with the way it ended.

Amazing!

This is pretty much the perfect comic book/superhero movie to me...Character development, action, story, and humor were all spot on. The balancing of the old and new casts was handled brilliantly. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this film. 10/10...Bravo, Mr. Singer!

X-Men DOFP was amazing. Great story line, action, merging of the past and future with a nice balance. The actors were great. Highly recommend this movie to anyone.
One thought was how this film borrows from so many great films in the past, while pulling in the X-Men story line. The film reminded me of Back to the Future Trilogy, Terminator Franchise, Godfather Part II, etc. Furthermore, I love how X-Men First Class and DOFP merge the Marvel Universe with the historical components of our

Nothing I didn't like in it. Main screen time went to a small core group, all of which were utilized well. McAvoy and Fassbender are great foils for each other. Mystiques five head was corrected and she kicked a lot of asses. Quicksilver was used sparingly, in a way that you actually wanted more of him in it. A burned out addict professor x. Sentinels killing people left and right. An acceptable use of time travel, when it could have easily been very stupid. Action sequences were used sparingly

Fassbender once again owns the role of Magneto. As I had hoped they erased the turds that were Wolverine Origins and XMen 3 from the series, basically. I'd put this on par with X2.

This film could have easily been a cluster-fuck and ended up being absolutely fantastic. LOVE IT!
As much as I disliked some of the looks, like Quicksilver's look, it actually looked better once I watched the movie. Plus his scenes are among the best.

While the '70s stuff was great character wise, the future part made me drop my jaw. Very well choreographed fight scenes.

Singer hate fucks First Class to avenge what Last Stand did to his francise... the end result is a reboot that makes pretty much all the earlier X-Men movies irrelevant. But still a fun movie! A good time at the theater that leaves a bad aftertaste the more you think about it... 7,5/10?

Everything except X-Men: First Class, which remains part of the continuity, since it happened before the events of Days of Future Past. This makes sense, since Bryan Singer was very much involved in that film as well. It was his idea to tie the mutants into historical events starting with the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I really liked it except for the ending.

It didn't feel like an ending or a cliffhanger. It just ended and fairly poorly in my opinion.

Had a great time at the movie, I do wish it had better villains though, I mean fleshed out nemesis, not just henchmen. Otherwise I had a great time and look forward to seeing it again sometime. By the way, I mean a human villain, not Magneto.

I love that it didn't have a definitive villain. Superhero movies have become too cliched when it comes to using heroes and a prominent villain, but that is not necessary in the X-Men franchise. The villain in these movies is intolerance and fear, which leads to conflicts that threaten the mutants. A movie doesn't need a villainous figure as long as there is a sense of danger, and I felt enough tension existed to demonstrate a threat. The point is, there was a clear sense of purpose and an

I get what you're saying, but I love a great villain. That and I don't mind superhero movies being a little cliche, as long as it's a great time. I also feel like the intolerance and fear angle is a little played out in X-Men, I want to see Apocalypse and the four horsemen bring the pain next time. I can appreciate variety, but it's hard not to love incredible villains.

Understood, but it simply was not necessary to me. I don't care if there is a clear villain, as long as the movie is engaging and I feel invested in the characters' fate. Since there seemed to be a real threat present in this movie, I felt the movie had enough suspense and danger to keep me on the edge of my seat. For me, when I watch a movie, I try to be absorbed by the story, not the roles within it. If a film needs a prominent villain and the villain is lacking, I will notice it because

However, if the story can be told effectively without the typical villain, then I won't notice.

Now, if X-Men: Apocalypse has a weak villain, I would definitely complain, since the villain is the central focus of that upcoming film. That movie will live and die on its villain. This one survived on its plot.

Didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. I think it has edged out "Captain America" as one my favorite movie of the year so far. It got pretty heavy on the drama when Magneto went rogue.

Go see it!

Bryan Singer returns with a vengeance to the franchise that launched the 21st century comic film boom (sadly, people seem to forget this). Absolutely loved the film, applause all around for all the great talent that appeared on screen. Neck and neck with Singer's X2 for me at the moment (both of these are still very different films). Bring on Apocalypse!

Definitely better than "First Class" - by a landslide. But it was not nearly as good as 1,2, or 3. It was entertaining and kept my attention for the most part but it really could have had more action. Glad I watched it but it's one of those films that you will most likely not watch for a second time unless its on TV and your too lazy to change the channel.

Have to Agree With TooCool_2012...

I enjoyed this much more than The Avengers (which I thought was good, not great). This was the best superhero movie since X 2. With X-Men, Captain America, and Godzilla, the summer's off to a great start.

Hear me out...

I said this was the movie of the summer, boy was I wrong. In NO way was this a bad movie, but u guess my expectations were too high. My only gripe is imo there wasn't enough action, I was never bored, but I wanted more mutant madness. Singers darkness is fairly prominent, which is great, what he does to Wolvie at the end is priceless! Problem is most of the action you see in the

It's a good, solid movie, well directed, good acting, I just wanted more, glad I saw it in theater, but I'll be waiting for on demand before seeing it a 2nd time.

I voted that I thought this would make 100-125m opening weekend, after seeing it is like to change that to 75-100.

It's still a can't miss movie, but it could've been better.

(SPOILER)
Quicksilver is basically the new Nightcrawler, sick scene, sick powers, abandoned after that, he needed more screen time.

I'm guessing he's referencing the fact that Wolverine wakes up to find his mission a success, but everything has changed (and he sees a few familiar faces). That part is pretty cool.

To me the best part was the outstanding action scenes in the future and McAvoy's great acting. Everything else was okay, but not significantly better than any other X-Men film (outside of Quicksilver, who was crazy-cool).

Great choice, its something that both fans can be happy with. And I personally hope they continue and slowly grow this trend, have the team save the day (or do us some justice and let Cyclops THE TEAMS LEADER save everyone next time, he has the power capabilities to kill 90% of the X-Men in under a second. Time to see him use how powers for something big!

MAJOR SPOILER @ TonyZid

Wolverine goes after Magneto, and Magneto takes some structure support beams from the cement, and twists them in and out of Wolverine, wrapping him up in them also, then flings him a few miles into a river and leaves him to drown helplessly, looks BRUTAL! A little blood and this could've easily been rated R.

LordMis, I agree with you. I really liked this movie. It was really good. But i didn't love it either. Quicksilver had the best scene by far. His interpretation of the character was wonderful. I'm confused where the sentinels fit into the canon of the first 3 movies though. Apparently they were created before the first 3 x-men according to this movie. But they aren't referenced at all in those movies. It's a plot hole.

Also: SPOILER-

That scene with Wolverine, reminded me of an homage

Banner Film for the X-Men

My favorite things about this film are:

1. The balance of characters (seriously, masterful job considering the massive cast)
2. The depth to which they continued to develop the First Class characters.
3. The clever job of erasing the damage of Brett Ratner on this franchise.
4. Spot on humor

Well done Brian Singer!

I think it was too soon to ask. Most people who have seen it have either been early screenings or midnight releases, and usually the only people who go to midnight releases are people who are going to be happy no matter what. At least wait until opening night is over.

Don't most people who are eager to see a film go in with high expectations? That would suggest anyone who really wants to see a movie expects it to be to a certain level, and if it doesn't meet that level, then they leave disappointed and give the film a low rating. These viewers might go in expecting to like it, but if the movie is not good or does not fulfill that expectation, they will come out unimpressed.

On the contrary, the casual viewers may go in with lower expectations and be more pleasantly surprised by it. The point is: I think your logic is flawed. The more the audience wants to see a movie, the more they expect of it, and the more susceptible they are to being letdown.

Or more susceptible for ignoring what didn't work in the movie. Look, guys, I'm not judging people who like it, I'm just saying why couldn't this article wait until Sunday? Or even Monday? Give it a few days to marinade and then talk about it.

@Indydan13. If waiting is your concern, which I can understand, that's the last thing a movie site wants to do. It's about being first. That's just my opinion though.

The purpose of the What Did You Think Of...? articles is to give our readers a place to come and talk about some of the bigger, hotly anticipated flicks that come out throughout the year. We debut them typically late at night for the late show people to jump in and kick things off. We bump the article throughout the weekend so that it's at the top and it's always featured on the front page and carousel. You'd have to be blind to miss it. Going to midnight screenings would be the worse because if the movie is awesome sauce you naturally wan`t too tell everyone but everyone is sleeping lol.You would have to sit there waiting till mid morning, trying to contain your excitement till then, till everyone`s awake.Plus midnight is to late for me to watch a movie,do midnight night viewers have a nap during the day? Ah these night owls are a different breed. But it made 8.1 mill thursday night so there`s alot of people wanting to see this.

In your face haters

Nearly everyone on this site (and others) was bitching about how silly quicksilver was going to be, but it turns out he is one of the most unique and entertaining aspects of the film. His costume was straight out of the 80's suggesting that he is "so fast" that he is ahead of his time, for 1973. It was brilliant. They even did it right by acknowledging that Eric is his father (unlike what will happen in Avengers 2, but I know why) and also showed lil Wanda at the end. The whole theater was

Settle down there. Most people mocked DoFP's Quicksilver because he looked absolutely ridiculous...and he did. Sure, we were proven wrong because his performance in that one scene was actually pretty great, but that doesn't change the fact that this Quicksilver is nothing like his comic book counterpart and still had an absolutely awful costume. I don't think Joss Whedon should be quivering in his boots just yet, seeing how his version of Quicksilver is an actual character in his movie, not

At SauronsBane-The costume wasn't that "ridiculous", but that is always opinion based so we are both right. The trailers and pics did not do it justice though, I'll give you that. It wasn't until I saw the film that I got it. I found the outfit brilliant, it was TOTALY 80's. In 1973 QS was ahead of his time. If you didn't grasp that concept I feel sorry for you because you must miss out on a lot of other things in life as well as cinema. Singer put in an awesome nod to an awesome era. What do

If you didn't grasp that concept I feel sorry for you because you must miss out on a lot of other things in life as well as cinema. Singer put in an awesome nod to an awesome era. What do you mean QS was nothing like his comic book counterpart? In what way? Just the costume? Because I don't remember Wolverine wearing a leather biker outfit in any of the thousands of comics. QS is exactly like he is in the books, cocky and a bit of a law breaker. The only difference between Singer's version and the comic version is that the film didn't address QS being in love with or even having sex with his own sister (sex was Ultimate QS and SW). Maybe you would have preferred Singer put that in there. If you get mad at me and want to post back, please explain what you mean by "he is nothing like his comic book counterpart" and please give examples. Also I never said that Joss had anything to worry about, I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with QS. It just sucks that in the Avenger's version QS and SW will not be mutants nor the children of Magneto. So you settle down now, you settle down now, you settle down now there son.

Holy cow, I never would've even commented in the first place if I knew you'd be THIS defensive about it. Take a deep breath man, I never attacked your opinion at all. Saying things like "I feel sorry for you because you must miss out on a lot of other things in life as well as cinema" is just unnecessary, defensive, and just a bit insane. Because I didn't get some made-up, vague reference in a movie, I must miss out on a ton of things in life? Okay, buddy, take it easy.

It's even worse

It's even worse because I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intent of Quicksilver's costume at all. What would that even mean?? He can move so fast, that he's ahead of his time? What? So he apparently time-traveled to a decade in the future, took note of what they wear, and decided to wear that too? Even in a movie full of time-traveling, that literally makes no sense. I think you're projecting a bit there, because that's just a really weird thing to just assume about a character.

And you're right, practically none of these characters resemble their comic book counterparts...but Quicksilver absolutely doesn't, either. So you're trying to tell me that Singer barely made any attempt to stay faithful to the source material with pretty much ALL of the other characters....but when it came to Quicksilver, he suddenly decided to stay 100% faithful no matter what? Come on. And the fact that you seem to think that his incest with his twin sister in Ultimates was something more than just a cheap shock tactic by the writer, well that really tells me something.

Again though, you're saying that QS is nothing like he is in the comics but you haven't given any examples or stated what makes him so different. I read the comics and have for 30 years and find him nearly spot on. So again, if you disagree and think he is nothing like

As far as what I said about him being so fast that he is ahead of his time....its called a METAPHORE. Cant believe that I actually have to explain that. This is exactly what I was talking about when I said that you must miss out on things in life (even if it WAS out of line, but in life often the most out of line statements are the truest). In no way did I say or suggest that he actually travels through time. But even if he did, it works for the Flash. Don't be such a Sour-Bane.

Only 3 conplaints

1. Wolverines grey hair shouldve been gone when he woke up. The DOFP comic explained his grey as the war was so stressfull on Logan that he actually aged a bit. When he comes back, it should be flowing black locks. Lol

2. And this is my biggest point of contention. As they are constantly changing the future with their actions at what point does "time" decide ok poof. Things in the future change at this point etc.

3. Post Vietnam Wolverine should be a merc at this point seeing as he met

Regardless Great movie that fixes alot of things. Not all (see vietnam) or a Black Boliver Trask in the future etc.

It's probably the best X-Men movie, and it's even better than a lot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. I had a lot of fun with it, and liked that the emotional core of the story was with McAvoy as Xavier.

There are so many Avengers lovers that I won't try to talk down on that film, but I felt like this is the first contender for a movie on the Avengers level of epicness. One that brings together all or most of the main characters from a series for one big film, and I also think it delivered a little better. But, just an opinion of course.

Yea, I agree with you. Avengers is blown out of proportion a little I think. I only meant the scale of the movie and star power. DOFP is up there with my favorite comic movies of all time now for sure still, right next to The Winter Soldier, The Dark Knight, X2, Watchmen, and Sin City.

Best X-Men movie ever, what a fun time at the movies. Highlights were the future war, the Quicksilver scene, and of course every scene with Charles and Eric. Stay for the end guys, the end credit scene was perfectly lifted from the comics.

My favorite X-Men movie bar none. I think the only thing I can say that's not a spoiler is that brought back the X2 theme (my favorite in the series, First Class' is 2nd) and it just made me giddy. Oh, and Quicksilver! Son of gun, Ass Kicker stole the show with little time (in a bottle) on screen. This might be the first movie I have to see twice.

Not going to lie, I was one of those fan folk that dogged on DOFP Quicksilver pointing out that the actors were both in Kick-Ass with Kick-Ass being the Marvel Studios version while Ass-Kicker (note: from the first movie not the second) was the DOFP version and he stole it. The unlikely song choice, the allusions, hell, the performance even it set the bar for the performance in The Avengers:AoU and its a high bar right now.

I never hated on Quick when the pictures, etc. of him first came out, and like everyone else, I thought he was definitely one BIG highlight in this movie. Avengers version definitely has their work cut out for them. But still, even with his awesomeness I thought that the silver jacket and goggles were kinda silly looking. Oh well, maybe people will learn not to totally write off ideas based on very little info like a character pic after this, though fanboys will be fanboys I guess. At least

At least now, when the picture of that next superhero comes out that doesn't fit into what most think of as the 'right' version of their favorite character, the rest of us have a little more ammo to argue with."Remember when everyone hated the idea of Heath Ledger as the Joker, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver."

(I'm not going to touch AMERICAN4397's response)

This isn't exactly Bryan Singer's return to X-Men. Sure, it is his first film back as director, but he produced First Class and was involved in the story for that film, so this is actually his second film back. That said, his directing reminded me just how valuable he is to the X-Men franchise.

I was worried it would be bloated and messy, that too many characters would muddle the narrative. But I came away from the film really impressed and satisfied. For the seventh movie in a series to feel as fresh and inventive as this one does is pretty darn impressive. This feels like a reward for everyone who's stuck through the franchise through thick and thin, from the highs of X2 to the lows of Origins: Wolverine, for it all to culminate in this. It's a "retcon" storyline done in the least

It's a "retcon" storyline done in the least lazy, more engrossing way possible, and yes, it's Logan-centric to an extent, but they found a good excuse for it to be. I'm also really glad that the dynamics between Charles and Erik were preserved; when it comes to character moments, the film is at its best dealing with those two. I'm also glad that there wasn't a romantic subplot shoehorned in; the references to Erik and Mystique's dalliance were just enough. Also, the Time in a Bottle scene. Holy crap that's ingenious. Totally forgave how utterly doofy Quicksilver looks. Still, Booboo Stewart was nowhere near jacked or tough enough for Warpath.

The highest praise I can give this movie...

...is the fact that once the credits rolled, I immediately wanted to come home and binge-watch the entire franchise again in one long marathon. DoFP worked PERFECTLY as a sequel to both The Last Stand and the very underrated First Class, though it really isn't a movie for casual movie-goers. It didn't take up precious screentime explaining every character and their relationships with each other and past events from previous movies - which is risky, but it's such a huge payoff for the hardcore

McAvoy and Fassbender OWN their roles, and it was really satisfying that their relationships with Mystique were pretty much the emotional heart of the movie. But McAvoy's character really goes through a great character arc in this, and it was refreshing after First Class focused so much on Fassbender's Magneto. And of course, it was great to see the old guard in their respective roles as well. One of my tests to see if a movie is really great is if it passes the rewatchability test...and you can bet I'm going to see this movie at least one or two more times before it comes out on dvd/blu-ray. There were a couple head-scratching moments and some wastes of characters, but DoFP is a solid 7.5/10 for me.

I Saw It Twice, Back-To-Back.

I walked out of the cinema, got a pair of tickets for the next screening 30mins away, and watched it again. I walked out of the cinema, got a pair of tickets for the next screening 30mins away, and watched it again. Jennifer Lawrence lends more depth and character to Mystique than ever before, which is great, and Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask is absolutely perfect casting. And my fear of Quicksilver being a complete goofball was eradicated the moment he showed up. He's good, trust me.

Some of my favorite scenes actually involved Warpath and Blink; both of whom bring the badassery and are a lot cooler than many of the original characters ie Iceman, Rogue, etc.

My only real issue, like Rukas mentioned below, is that the movie should have been a bit longer and a lot grander in scale. Wolverine's action scenes were obviously saved for his solo movie(s) and there are no real scenes of the Sentinel war. I wish they had shown us a larger scale of the Future.

It's really is just a damn good movie all around. It felt so good to see these characters on the big screen again, together after all these years. I'd definitely give it a third viewing soon.

8/10

I gave it an 8. My biggest problem with it was it lacked a grand scope and actually underutilized Wolverine in the action scenes. I wanted to see him go up against Sentinals and he doesnt.

"I don't know karate, but I do know crazy".

Days of Future Past was amazing. It's easily the best X-Men film up to date and it surpassed all my expectations and then some.

The story was great and all the characters in this (and there are many) felt important and didn't feel shoehorned. I also loved when the film took place in the future, you could really feel a big, depressing threat against the last remaining mutants. Out of all of the characters though, Wolverine, both versions of Professor Xavier and Magneto had the best scenes

The story was great and all the characters in this (and there are many) felt important and didn't feel shoehorned. I also loved when the film took place in the future, you could really feel a big, depressing threat against the last remaining mutants. Out of all of the characters though, Wolverine, both versions of Professor Xavier and Magneto had the best scenes and Quicksilver in my opinion easily had the best scene in the entire film and one of the best scenes in the entire franchise. The reference and joke made between Magneto and Quicksilver during their scene was hilarious and was a nice nod towards their connection to one another.

Both casts from both time period films did a brilliant job and it was great to see both casts come together so well and effortlessly and naturally. This is probably Jackman's best turn as Wolverine yet, and McAvoy and Fassbender absolutely own their characters just as much if not more then they did in First Class. Alot of great scenes between the two and was really the majority of the heart in the film just like they were in First Class. And just like how First Class was really Fassbender's show, this new film feels like the other side of the coin when it comes to McAvoy and his vital portrayal of Professor Xavier. The two actors and characters (young and old) just complement each other so well and it really shows in the all of the scenes that they are in throughout the film. But again, the whole cast of characters are all great in this and really shine in a huge ensemble film as big as this.

When it came to the action, the film delivered on all cylinders. It was astonishing to FINALLY see the X-Men fight the Sentinels and was a huge payoff after waiting six films to finally see them fight one another. But this is probably the most action filled film of the franchise. All the way from the opening sequence to the terrific climax and finale battle.

And I was so happy to finally see my second favorite X-Men character of all time behind Wolverine back again and to finally see the timeline fixed once and for all.

Can't wait to see what this franchise has in store for us with Apocalypse and this film makes me proud to be a die hard X-Men fan since childhood. It's the PERFECT X-Men film with the all right balances of action, drama, characterization, and then some. I also think it is one of the best comic book films ever, too.

Second favorite character behind Wolverine? Timeline fixed!? Dare I hope this means I can have my Cyclops back?

******************Spoilers**********************

Cyclops does indeed return due to the fixed timeline along with Jean Grey and has one of the funnier moments in the film. My entire audience clapped in excitement when they saw both characters back; especially Cyclops. Hopefully we see him FINALLY leading the X-Men in Apocalypse like the character deserves to.

Absolutely Excellent!

Just got back and it was a total rush of nostalgia. Mad respect to Bryan Singer for reminding me what it felt like to see the first two films in theatres all those years ago. I felt like a teenager again :D
Great use of the two casts, even if the future cast was mostly in the background. I think we really gotta owe it to Singer for not letting this film fall into a sloppy disorganized mess.
Favorite part by FAR : Quicksilver in the Pentagon - Nightcrawler attacking the Oval Office has some

Favorite part by FAR : Quicksilver in the Pentagon - Nightcrawler attacking the Oval Office has some serious competition for one of the best sequences of the entire series!
