What Did You Think? We want your Hangover 2 review!

4 years agoby:

The first HANGOVER was a surprise success at the box-office, eventually becoming the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time. The way things are shaping up this Memorial Day weekend, THE HANGOVER, PART II could very well beat that record (they're already talking about $125 million in just this weekend alone!). Our own Chris Bumbray said in his review that "what it lacks in originality, it makes up for in laughs." Other critics have not been much kind and it's on Rotten Tomatoes with a 33% rating.

We want to know what YOU think! As we often do, we're going to leave this article up all weekend with the Strike Backs open and encourage you to post YOUR review of THE HANGOVER, PART II. If you're so inclined, you can even post a review to your Movie Fan Central profile. So far, there are 8 MFC reviews averaging 6.0/10.

I say this often and it's just as important with this movie: PLEASE NO SPOILERS. And, as always, no attacking, flaming or insulting other users.

It needed more Marvel characters and CGI if it expected to be successful.

Let's be honest, did anyone expect this to be anything more than a fast tracked, "get the other pocket" kind of sequel?

This film was a cash grab, pure and simple and the only way for them to do it as fast as they could was to basically shoot the same movie again.

It's mad-lib filmmaking, essentially. The bare bones are the same, with the gaps filled in. I kind of see the accusations of racism, sexism and homophobia that some have levelled at it, but I'm too indifferent to it to be really pissed off about it. Neither good nor bad, just... there. Nothing unexpected about it, and that unpredictability is what made the first one so enjoyable for me. A resounding MEH from me.

It's incredibly lazy and embarrassing that they felt the need to make a clone of the first film. All it does is make this one predictable and dull. Here's the full review:

The definition of a sheep would be someone who doesn't see the movie, doesn't make their own opinion and instead simply adopts your own. You didn't like the movie, great, duly noted, but people should form their own opinions on it.

In both situations you'd be a sheep. Whether you see the movie because other people tell you to (the hype) or you don't see the movie for the same reason.

Going forward, use common sense.

The Hangover Part II was an extremely lazy effort. Sure it had a bigger budget, better locales and higher stake but nothing is different here. I lost track of how many times they said "It happened again" or "we need to find our friend". I know its a sequel but there was nothing new brought to the table. All of the characters just acted more outrageous than the first film and became less like people and more like broad caricatures. I'm sure people will find it funny, but I was let down by

Curiously

It had one of the best filmed car chases I've seen in an action movie in a long time. And the monkey was awesome.

Proves the first film was lightening in a bottle by comparison...this film's funny, sure..not as great as first, which is understandable, bc we know what's being served to us...i did NOT expect anything startlingly original at all...BUT it's nearly insulting- the lack of any risks taken to make this film stand on it's own- rather than be merely a clone of the first one with really quickly thrown in gags like the monkey and more Ken Jeong ...i feel like this film unintentionally shits all over

Most of the negative reviews are basically ppl saying "it's a copycat of the first one." What did these ppl expect? Name 1 straight-up comedy sequel that is not a copycat of the original. Airplane 2? No. Naked Gun 2? No. Next Friday? No. Harold and Kumar 2? No. Straight up comedies are meant to deliver the same thing a second time around. Comedy movies & sequels arent looking to be critically-praised, award wining, groundbreaking films. Theyre funny movies giving more of the same. They're like

liked it enough. I'm sure it wont have much replay value like the first, but it was still good. I have to watch it again b.c my crowd was so full of forced, over the top laughter, that i missed a ton of dialogue/jokes. it wasn't THAT funny.

Fucking hilarious!

First of all, in no way would this have ever topped the original. So thats the frame of mind i saw this movie in. And i loved every funny minute of it!! It followed the similar pattern to the first but ratcheted things to even higher stakes. Funny set-pieces and a satisfying ending (cant beat the photo montage at the end). In short, worth the PART 2 in every way

Sure it was the same concept...

But it had to be since it was a HANGOVER sequel. I just got back from it and it was a fucking blast. It was raunchier, very creative and just flat-out hilarious.

BTW....where the hell was Bill Clinton?

It really is part II

I don't like all the hate surrounding this film because it's "just like the first one". It's supposed to be just like the first one. It's the Hangover PART TWO, a continuation of the first story. They're supposed to share common themes. If they wanted to make a movie with a different plot, they wouldn't have called it the hangover 2. I mean honestly, what did you think you were getting into when you bought the ticket? Just enjoy the laughs for what they are.

So the continuation of a story is essential just the first part of it repeated? People tend to expect similar things from a sequel, not identical ones.

I haven't seen it yet, but I agree with akskier. Sure it isn't a new plot or anything, but just like when you get hammered and suffer through a horrible hangover, say "I'm never drinking again", but come next week you're doing it all over again.

That's about 200% more sense than aksier made. Still, a repeated premise isn't the same as an identical plot.

It was "ok" at best. I thought it warranted a better cameo. Mel would have been cool, a Charlie Sheen would have been better and I kept thinkin' to myself throughout the film as an ex smoker, "I wonder how much tobacco companies would pay to have a smoking monkey in a film." Because if when I was like 14 I thought people in Sin City looked cool, I would have thought a smokin' monkey was fuckin' AWESOME! Not cool. Especially when you imagine a huge audience demographic are immature teens and

I laughed quite a bit but . . .

You gotta admit it's not nearly as quotable as the first film, Rob Riggle was funnier than the monk, Paul Giamatti played it straight, they should have got somebody better as the tattoo artist and the cameo at the end should have been Carrot Top.

Normally I am a champion of originality. But you know...

I could watch those guys do the exact same movie probably a dozen times.

Yeah it's the same damn movie but in a different location, but I haven't laughed as hard in theaters since the first Hangover movie.

Meh.

I actually enjoyed the first half hour or so of the movie up until they showed them waking up. There were a few funny parts after but to me they really should have tried a different angle, like actually showing what happened throughout the night? Just thought it was a lazy sequel and am pretty surprised by the praise. Maybe i need a rewatch but it was disappointing to me.

The movie is good sure its not original like the first one but chris brumbray said exactly the point of the film what it lacks in originality it makes up for in laughs. And its a fun film and i really enjoyed it and i even went into the film not expecting much. Go see it for yourselves. This is a comedy you dont listen to critics on the film has like a 40 percent fresh rating on rt but it has a 94 percent fresh rating from audiences so that right there says something.

It was great- I don'y understand why people are saying it's exactly like the 1st one- I think that's the easy, popular thing to say. It isn't the same- it's WAY darker and crazier- I had a horrible feeling during the whole movie, almost hard to watch! Thought it was great.
One criticism is that the beginning and end felt like a cheezy parody, too silly and the characters were playing caricatures of themselves. The middle though was fantastic.

I'm confused. The 1st Hang Over sucked all kinds of ass, but peolple I know where raving about it. Saying it's the best comedy in years. And I kid you not I didn't laugh once during the entire movie. I thought it was lame, stupid, and boring too watch. The 2nd one was the same crap just repackaged adding the little chinese guy from the 1st movie and a monkey, and again people are praising this sh*t. What am I missing? I love comedies, but I didn't find anything funny about either one of

A solid 5/10... I wouldn't of mind its unoriginality if I laughed more. I only laughed a handful of time and that was my biggest problem with the movie. I felt like there were more gross out gags then quotable lines (which the first one had too many). It was just a huge disappointment.

Hilarious & while its the same formula as the first, its much different & im glad Mr. Chow was in it more. The hate makes no sense again when people already knew it would be just like the first, as long as its funny then who cares. Loved it & hope they make a part 3 to complete the trilogy, now Alan has to get married & have it in Amsterdam.

It's a hard call.

Hangover Part 2 was a fine movie, in fact it was a good movie. The only problem is that it's not better or worse than the first, and seeing as how the films story very similar (it's not identical as some people would lead you to believe, it's actually quite different) there is little to no reason to every watch this one over the first film.

Mega Sucked

I thought it was terrible. I was literally ready to leave an hour into it...The entire sequel was almost a shot for shot remake as far as the flow of the movie goes...it was no where near as funny..not even in the same conversation as part 1...save your money.

Disappointed

I can sum up my opinion about hangover II with one word...disappointed. I had such high hopes about this movie, when I first heard about it. The first was so hilarious, the sequel would surely be twice as funny, right? I think the reason the original was so funny was because it shocked you. The sequel sticks so closely to the formula of the original, that in some ways you knew what was coming, and as a result the gag falls flat. The sequel had very few shockingly funny moments, save for a

The sequel had very few shockingly funny moments, save for a scene with a transgender hooker. I really wanted to laugh my brains out, and so did everyone else in the theatre. Then I slowly realized this movie would not be getting any funnier. Not even A cameo by a certain boxer or the picture montage at the end made me laugh. Another unecessary sequel, in a time when Hollywood takes something good and literally ruins it just to cash in.

A complete phone in from everyone involved. Making a sequel to one of the most successful comedies of all time doesn't mean copying and pasting the original's script and throwing in a monkey CAUSE MONKEYS MAKE EVERYTHING SO FUNNY.

I loved the first Hangover, but this was just embarrassing. Every time a character says, "I can't believe this is happening again durr!" (and they say it A LOT) you can't help but feel bad for the actors, who seem fully aware that Part II is a near shot for shot

Want to see The Hangover Part II? Save yourself 10 bucks and just watch the first one again.

feh

I laughed a couple times. It started off good but just got more and more like the first one as it progressed. All and all just plain lame.

Not bad, not great

Although I don't have a ratings scale, I'd agree with a 7 out of 10.

Meh

There was some funny moments. But for the most part the film followed almost the exact same formula as the first. Aside from getting seamen in his asshole, it wasn't even that funny.

I needed a shower after watching it

Don't get me wrong. There were some really funny moments during the movie, but I thought they went more for shock comedy than situational comedy like in the first. Look for a sharp drop at the box office during week 2.

And I was right: Last weekend's #1 movie, THE HANGOVER 2, managed to stick around in 2nd place this weekend, although it dropped quite a bit from last week, losing 62% of its audience.

I had a great time!

This movie did what all good sequels do by showing/giving us a darker version of the original story and characters. So many crazy comedic risks are taken with this movie. I hated Due Date so I was worried Todd Phillips had lost it but i was oh so very wrong. I say bring on Part III!!!!!

Loved it! I'm pretty sure following the same structure was all part of the joke... Why else would they reuse the exact lines from the first one? And the cameo at the end was priceless.

Haters

Everyone is bitching about it being the same as the last one, I think critics are over analyzing it. Even though it's the same plot etc. it's still pretty damn funny.

I love how people who can barely manage to even imply their half baked reasoning resort to calling other people "haters". We need to come up with a name for people who wantonly approve of everything without being able to argue it: douchebags, maybe.

Save your money, Save the future of film

Hollywood's either ran out of ideas, or doesn't care anymore. I believe the fault lay on us, the public. We keep rewarding their garbage efforts with sales, then bitch about their lack of creativity, after we hand our money over. Hollywood simply understands the mighty $, i completely get that. It falls on us to ensure they produce quality by punishing their ignorance, & reward them when they push the bar.

Rotten Tomatoes is WRONG!

Rotten Tomatoes has Bridesmaids at 89% and Hangover 2 at 35%, but what's the first thing I see when I go to their site? A giant ad for Bridesmaids, which is a totally inferior movie, and not even in the same league as The Hangover Part 2 in terms of acting, characters, laughs, etc. Don't believe them. Go see this movie. It is hilarious, and every bit as good as the first one, even if it isn't totally original. Although, I could have done without the Tyson cameo.

i only picked neutral cuz i have not seen the film yet, but as i have mentioned before, critics hate sequels so the ratings don't matter or keep me from seeing this.

The movie is halarious

Every character is so spot on. I love the scene when they are trying on dresses after they got food poisoning. Oh wait....that was Bridesmaids, the actually comedy film of the summer. "See you on the flipside Motherf*ckas!!!!"

It's very simple... if you liked the first one, laughed at it, enjoyed the characters and the situation.. then you'll have less fun with this one, but enjoy yourself. It's the exact same movie, plot points, conflicts, twists and all... but in Bangkok.

ok, I'm sorry...this is an article for your review. It's just that you're all complaining about the same things and I just wonder what it is you all expected...Hangover in space? The wolf pack battles the terrorist? Alan runs for office? It was a fun ride and that's all it was meant to be. Have you ever ridden the same roller coaster twice?

You said who gives a shit if they didn't like it, but you give a shit about peoples opinions of the movie. Why should we give a shit about that? Apparently you thought we would because you mentioned it.

awesome

i loved this movie more than the first the reason unlike the rest of the people on this site i can watch this film with fresh eyes, i can wipe hangover one away and enjoy this movie for what it was, and then come back and compare, in termns of the gags, much more shocking, more fun, and just better on all aspects, because i knew mike was showing up i liked his appearance at the end, ultimately internet movie reviewers are the worst because they feel the need to sound important by bashing films

loved it more than the first

Not getting the dislike. What the fuck did people expect? I didn't hear many complaints about BTTF Part 2 because it had the DeLorean and time travel. And that movie even went BACK to some of the events from the first movie for the last 45 minutes.

I didn't see Hangover Part II, but maybe you didn't hear all the feedback about Back to the Future Part II because there wasn't an Internet back then. Believe me, I said my piece about THAT movie.

Seriously?!?!....Ofcourse BTTF 2 had time travel. Time travel is what the movie is about and the sequel was set up. Your comparison was quite...no...it was VERY stupid.

Don't waste your money

Well I was right. The first movie was a POS (Piece of sh*t) and I knew the second would be just as bad. Save your money, wait for it to come out on cable or dish, at least that way you really arent paying for it
