What Did You Think? We want your Harry Potter review!

07.15.2011

It's still early (the movie only opens today) but HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2 already has a staggering 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That's infringing on Pixar territory. Our own Chris Bumbray enjoyed it thoroughly and anticipation for the final installment in the HARRY POTTER film saga is at a fever pitch.

The film sold out countless midnight screenings and looks to set records this weekend as it's already taken in over $35 million from presale tickets alone. With so much excitement around the films we want to know what YOU think!

We're going to leave this article up all weekend with the Strike Backs open and encourage you to post YOUR review of DEATHLY HALLOWS, PART 2. If you're so inclined, you can even post a review to your Movie Fan Central profile or CLICK HERE to see other MFC reviews (so far, 14 reviews averaging 8.7/10).

I say this often but PLEASE NO SPOILERS. And, as always, no attacking, flaming or insulting other users.

Come Draco. Come give Voldie hug.

It was perfect until the end... harry plops out of hagrids arms and runs away. Yates failed at his most opportune moment. And JK executive produced this? Shouldve stayed true to the book. Tsk tsk.

A whole lot of fun goin' on....

Is it the most perfect movie? Well, no. Is a good way to end the series. I believe so. Will it make crazy money and maybe go on to be one of the highest grossing movies of all time? Oh, that's a big YES!!! I loved it.

The best movie of the summer. I missed some of the book parts not included in the film, but overall it was a great conclusion to one of the best film franchises of all time. Really glad they used more of John Williams' Hedwig's Theme to bookend the series.

I'd give it a 95/100. I take 5 off because like the person below said the deaths were abrupt, and the battle seemed short. Wanted to see some more battling by Bellatrix, the DA members, etc. I have a feeling there will be an expanded DVD someday with a lot of added footage. But, some of it probably could've fit into the theatrical version. I hope they do a proper expanded edition, like LOTR. Amazing movie though, of course.

A fitting conclusion but....

I do feel they cut out too much of the book and made characters' deaths less emotionally investing they could've been.

Nonetheless, it was the first time where I wish more could've been added to the running time than say other films where they should've cut the fat and trimmed down on some scenes.

And don't get me started on that horrible ending of the kids dressed up as adults. Seriously, they couldn't have gotten adult actors?

How could they spend more time on Hedwig. He died in part 1. Plus you really think they should have replaced the actors at the end. The whole series has been about those three kids and at the very end you are going to replace them with new faces for a 2 minute long scene. That is idiotic and thankfully they didn't do that.

The main three actors are already in their 20s. Their faces are not gonna change much more.. 19 years later, they're gonna look almost the same

Yeah, that a feeble attempt at making them look 19 years older. Completely laughable.

Wonderful

Not a big Potter fan at all... the movies have mostly ranged from ok to good for me. However, this one felt gripping and emotional to me. Full of visual poetry and has a really grim and gripping tone, in addition to some nice humor. I pretty much loved it, and it's the first Potter I want to see again in theaters.

I loved it

As a fan of both the books and the films, this one did a damn good job of wrapping everything up. Some damn good acting, spectacular action, and one of the most touching final scenes in a movie ever. It made me feel like I was 10 watching the first one in theaters again.

And by the way, The Dark Knight Rises trailer blew.

Good, but not great. David Yates didn't pay enough attention to certain scenes that were really important to the fans, (the kiss) being a really good example. But all in all it was enjoyable. The Hogwarts battle was epic the scenes were beautifully shot and the actors did a great job.

Scooby Doo Ending

I liked it, but wished there was more battling scenes. Looking foward to the next HP.... doh :(

Also I really wished they unmasked Voldemort at the end to reveal it was infact Dumbledore. He would then say "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

GREAT MOVIE

That was too rushed. Some potter fans like me would love to see how some of the characters we grew up to love died epically, and the "kiss" was just too fast, in the sense that there's not much drama in it. Snape's past was too quick. I guess it's a bad idea to read the book twice.

Loved the film 8 out of 10 i would have given it 9 if i hadnt experienced it in IMAX 3D and the 3D sucked which surprised me and let me down. Other than that it was good. I was looking foward to the TDKR teaser the theater pissed me off by having the lights on during the previews and i literally couldnt see shit it fucking made me soo livid. Other than that film was great.

I thought it was fantastic. Had a few issues with it. Some of the great moments from the book that were in the movie were done very quickly. Best example was Mrs Weasly vs. Bellatrix. One of the best moments in the book but in the movie, while still good, happened so fast. The movie seemed to jump around a little to fast. I think another 15 minutes added would have helped a lot. Plus I wish there was more dialogue between Harry and Voldemort at the end. Harry telling Voldemort he can

Pretty much had a tear or two in my eye from the moment I saw (not really a spolier but warning nontheless) Lavender Brown's body to the end. Great series, great ending. It will be missed. Oh yeah. Neville was also a supreme badass in this.

NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!!

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2: Excellent conclusion to the epic saga that does not skimp on the emotion. I heard a lot of sniffles and sobs at key scenes. Matthew Lewis takes the spotlight with a casually realistic Neville Longbottom. Plenty of death and violence and not too much creative license with HP7 canon. "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!!" Four stars.

Mischief Managed

Really dug this. Certainly not without its faults - some moments fell flat and I missed many of the moments that didn't make it in - but a very good movie nonetheless.

To be completely honest, I'm not a big fan of the Harry Potter movies. I cherish the books and hold them dear to my heart, but the movies were always hit or miss to me. I always felt that half of the books worked best on the page instead of on the screen, and we got that with pacing issues in some of the movie installments. I think it was the lack of acting chops from the core 3 early on in their careers and up until about part 6. They just weren't able to convincingly carry a movie franchise

I think it was the lack of acting chops from the core 3 early on in their careers and up until about part 6. They just weren't able to convincingly carry a movie franchise yet, and I thought the movies always suffered because of it. The rich story-telling and interesting characters were always there, and I enjoyed all of them greatly, I just wanted something perfect.

Which is why The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (and even Part 1) rises above the rest of the movies in my eyes. Radcliffe, Watson and Grint grew so much as actors and as performers that they completely carried this movie without having to bust out large monologues or chunks of dialogue. There EMOTIONS are what gave the best performances in this movie, and there were times where Radcliffe carried moments of the film without even speaking. I never thought we'd get to this position we were in, and the movie was a fantastically satisfying ending to the franchise.

I would have rather seen Part 1 and Part 2 combined into one epic 4 hour movie, but this part still stands up on it's own. It was a brilliant ending to a series filled with some lackluster entries and some great ones... and it was incredibly satisfying. The series was always able to bring the magic and love that the books did, and this ending really brought the words from the book to the screen. The entire team brought their A game and it showed, ending the series with a bang!

I liked it. It continues the perhaps overly serious and dark nature of the past few films directed by Yates. But it works so well. It's a good end to a wonderful franchise.

No spoilers

Here's a thing about the final shot, without spoiling what it is. Does it not kind of undercut the ten years we've spent watching these specific actors growing up as these characters on screen? In the main though, it's rather good indeed. Far from the best of the series, but consistently with the others, it's a blockbuster with brains, and a soul. Alan Rickman is the fucking boss. 4/5

I liked all of the changes they made, thought the final showdown was better than in the book but it still felt lacking... should have been more banter between the two.
The few moments where the entire audience cheered were very cool, and they are definitely the moments fans of the books will want to cheer at. My crowd did laugh at some very strange parts, and along with an over too quickly duel, were the only parts I wasn't too keen on. If I see it again with a smaller crowd who don't ruin
