What Did You Think? We want your Pirates review!

When it comes to critics, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES isn't having much luck. The fourth film in the PIRATES franchise is getting swashbuckled with most critics agreeing it's the worst in the whole series. Our own Chris Bumbray said in his review that he was so bored, he "almost fell asleep twice." It's not faring much better on Rotten Tomatoes with a 33% rating. But the film is expected to take in over $100 million this weekend at the box-office so is this a case of critics not being in tune with audiences?
We want to know what YOU think! As we often do, we're going to leave this article up all weekend with the Strike Backs open and encourage you to post YOUR review of PIRATES 4. If you're so inclined, you can even post a review to your Movie Fan Central profile. .
I say this often and it's just as important with this movie: PLEASE NO SPOILERS. And, as always, no attacking, flaming or insulting other users.

I wish they could have started the film earlier in time when Blackbeard went
I wish they could have started the film earlier in time when Blackbeard went after Barbossa and The Pearl and sunk it. Would have been more memorable to me (I feel like I am Monday morning quarterbacking) BUT I did have a good time.
something different
Better than I expected
To me, this felt like a good old fashioned Adventure story that wasn't riddled with forced moments (the compass shows you what you want most seemed like a last minute maguffin to me).
Truthfully, I

Truthfully, I think it is a lot easier to crap on a big budget Hollywood movie online than to actually dislike it. Frankly, I think a lot of you actually dug the film (which I'm sure none of you will admit) but since you're online, you can slam it all you want and come off as a sophisticated snob as opposed to someone who's willing to shell out cash for an entertaining, albeit lower quality product than a film like The King's Speech, just to sound cool to the online filmgoing community. If you went in after seeing 2 and 3 expecting some sort of high art that featured political commentary or an overly complex scenario and plot that required critical thinking, then you were expecting too much from a film based on a ride at Disneyland. If you, instead, came to see Jack Sparrow betray and be betrayed while executing daring escapes/rescues, all while laden with plenty of sweet cgi and makeup effects as Hans Zimmer's score booms in the background, you got everything you wanted without any lame-duck Orlando Bloom dealing with daddy issues.
You had Penelope Cruz for that area...fair trade!
really awful film
Lower your expectations and just enjoy
Sparrow seems to be losing a great amount of his original charm and wit. Unfortunately, Depp feels like he is giving his all to an aging character who has little more to give, he seems tired and uninterested

The missionary Philip and the mermaid Serena, who gave the film a great amount of heart and soul, brought my interest back up. I wanted to know more about them, follow their story, see what happened to them. If it weren’t for the smooth and charismatic acting skills of Claflin as Philip and his ability to say much without really speaking, I don’t think I would have enjoyed the film as much. I also found the mermaids really intriguing, they were superbly done visually and they were a great mix of exotic sex appeal and terrifying sea creature. If they do another movie, which I am not really hoping they do, I want to see more about the mermaids, their mythology, their back story, they were the most exciting part of the film.
As for Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane, I was not so impressed. McShane was nowhere near as menacing or powerful as he was on Deadwood, he felt watered down and boring. I understand that Disney cannot make an R-rated film but that doesn’t allow a character like the fearsome Black Beard to be fully realized, he needs an R rating to really shine.
For all of its flaws in rehashing the same old stuff and some lackluster performances, I enjoyed this movie, though not for the reasons I expected. If I had to rate the Pirate series from favorite to least favorite it would be 1, 4, 3, 2, but honestly, none of them can match the awesomeness of The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Big money...
I judge movies nowadays by
Another Giant Steaming Turd Sandwich
underwhelming
Pretty good
Well I'm gonna throw it out there...
I'm a huge fan of the first movie and the sequels were decent enough but I loved the story and characters for this new sequel. Depp was funnier than ever, Penelope was hot, McShane was badass and the mermaids were deadly. I enjoyed it for exactly what it was.

i expected better
sorry for rambling on but i was just expecting so much more from this film.
Really don't know what people expected
Eh...

Look, a Pirates movie will never get Depp nominated for an Oscar again. This series peaked in its very first incarnation, but at least Gore Verbinski had enough visual style to keep the series entertaining for two more entries. That's something that's lacking in this one, and the film feels hollow for it. Yeah, there's pretty jungle shots and some weird voodoo/living ship element that's thrown in and never explained, but it all pales in comparison to Davey Jones and even Barbossa in the first one.
The movie drags just like they all did, but at least it's well acted by mostly everyone in it. Even if their characters are wasted. The one huge glaring flaw I see in the movie is when it decides to completely interrupt itself to focus on two equally unnecessary characters I really hoped would die. The priest (who's name I forget and refuse to look up) and the mermaid. They were a colossal waste of time and a complete waste of film. Their characters added nothing to the story (except to serve as virtual clones of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley's characters) and could have been excised from the film entirely without anyone noticing.
Hop on board this boat, arr!
The old-fashioned spirit of adventure missing from many
The old-fashioned spirit of adventure missing from many modern films is alive and well in the fourth Pirates outing. This is a supremely enjoyable ride (almost as much as the source material), filled from start to finish with the same energy that flowed through the veins of the first film.
Fun in the right places, thrilling in the right places, scary in the right places and humorous in the right places, this is one ship everyone should hop aboard. Arrrrrr!
7/10

My biggest problem was that it wasn't much fun nor very entertaining.

STAY THRU THE CREDITS FOR AN ADDITIONAL SCENE!
I liked it about as much as the others.
HOWEVER - The first scene with the mermaids WAS AWESOME! Probably my favorite moment out of all 4 movies. That song was HAUNTINGLY GOOD.
I just would have written the ending SO much different. Because this movie had a chance to have some serious balls and went with
