What Did You Think? We want your Transformers 3 review!

07.02.2011

Normally we don't run these Strike Back articles until Friday afternoons but today TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is sneaking into theaters a little early and judging by the amount of debate already on Facebook and Twitter, people are going to be psyched up to debate the merits of the film immediately after.

Like many Michael Bay films before it, some people hate it, some people think it's OK and some people absolutely love it. Our own Chris Bumbray fell somewhere in the middle saying it was "silly but fun" in his review.

But with so much debate around the film we want to know what YOU think! We're going to leave this article up all weekend with the Strike Backs open and encourage you to post YOUR review of TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON. If you're so inclined, you can even post a review to your Movie Fan Central profile. You can even check the average rating of all the MFC reviews of TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON here (so far, averaging 6.2/10 after 19 reviews).

I say this often but PLEASE NO SPOILERS. And, as always, no attacking, flaming or insulting other users.

Just got a chance to check it out last night. It's much better than Revenge of the Fallen and the action is easier to watch - as in normal pace enough for audiences to see what's going on. I really enjoy lots of cameo role in this movie. The plot is indeed better than ROTF and I thought of some moments of the original Transformers cartoon. I checked out IMDB and I was right. Good trilogy, Mr. Bay.

I was really impressed by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I wonder if Bay had the inside scoop from working with Victoria's Secret so much? I thought, overall, it was enjoyable and the "cameos" were pretty great. That being said, I thought there were glaring narrative gaps during the climax, several in quick succession. Just keep it under 2:15 runtime and that won't happen! Still a fun time and much, much better than the second installment.

Great movie & a huge imporvement with a plot that actually made sense, well in the TF universe that is, great action scenes & it moved at a fast pace & did not feel like @ and a half hours, oh & i had doubts about the new female character carly, but she wasn't dat bad actingwise & i am now convinced she is super hot.

BTW anyone notice how Bay used both Sweet Emotions in this movie & Armageddon, so he reuses music also, what a damn shame!!

Could have been better

Midway through the movie I felt the story was done and the RoboPorn began. I barely could remember most of the action scenes a couple of hours after the movie. And while the graphics were great I didn't find what I would call a WOW moment. The action was predictable and other than a couple of scenes didnt feel like something we had not seen in the earlier Transformers films.

M.Bay is talented no doubt .... But I guess he is not looking to make a classic. I wish he would look at TDK or X:Men

PS - Transformers I guess as Franchise doesn't have restrictions like other comic book franchises to stick to story arcs so I guess there is some space for originial creative idea in there.

Was pretty good...

Was definitely better than Revenge of the Fallen, but still not as good or cohesive as the first one. I felt that this one was a little more mean-spirited and unpleasant than the first one (Thats not a bad thing for me), but it was overall fun. Like everyone else, there were minor gripes: it ran too long, and there were minor things that annoyed me but not enough to ruin my overall experience. (There is one line, a simple word that is spoken during the end battle that I'm still not sure I

The new chick was only kind of hot, but she was manageable(despite the fact that her all white duds throughout much of the film never managed to get dirty...) But overall it was a pretty good popcorn flick. I'll be picking up the DVD...7.0 out of 10...

Meh...

It wasn't bad, but then again it wasn't great either. I really had my hopes set high for this one. It started off good with a very intriguing plot. The middle held it's own well with some nice twists, but by the end I just wasn't feeling it. I hate to say that the length of the film killed it for me, but I guess it did. By the time the 'climatic' ending came, I wasn't emotionally into it anymore and felt I was just along for the ride. I wasn't on the edge of my seat, watching it and

I wasn't on the edge of my seat, watching it and loving it, I was simply just watching it as it went by. I feel like Bay hasn't been able to capture the essence of what he did with the first. I really don't care about the recycled footage, it was only cut scenes, each only being 1 or 2 seconds long-whatever guys. What got me though was after all of the talk by Bay getting rid of the racially stereotyped robots, he still manages to slip in silly robots. Why do they do this? What was great about the 1st transformers was that all of them were serious, real. You could believe these guys were real lifeforms, with history to them. This time around we have a robot with the head of einstein, a robot with a gut that walks like sumo, robots with neon hair, irish robots, and a whole lot of decepticons that grunt. The 3D sucked too. Wasn't this filmed in 3D I thought? If there will ever be a fourth, give this project to someone else

Watch it for what it is.

Checked this out last night, and was pleasantly surprised after the shite that was Revenge of the Fallen, so my expectations were low. Dark of the Moon is everything I expected from the Transformers movie. For me a solid 8/10, however, there are a couple of scenes that did not play any specific role to the story, characters, or enjoyment of the film. But for me, awesome movie, and I kinda hope they make a 4 with Unicron or Galvatron.

I've seen all three of Michael Bay's Transformers movies in the cinema. All of them have been annoying, mostly because of the wasted opportunity. Bay's a talented guy, the effects teams who've worked on this series have done some incredible stuff, and the Transformers franchise has an incredibly rich heritage to draw upon, and yet all three of these movies have been blighted by some of the worst, braindead, soul-sucking and poor taste nonsense ever to grace cinema screens, and this third

That's what really annoys me about these films - wasted potential. There's some genuinely incredible stuff in Dark Of The Moon - effects and scenarios that could genuinely make the best sci-fi action movie ever, but without fail the makers of the Transformers series feel obliged to crap all over these achievements with elements that go beyond just being dumb. There were moments in Dark Of The Moon that made me want to claw my eyes out and dig my nails into my brain. To say the repeatedly failed attempts at humour in this film annoy me would be a massive understatement. What galls me even more is that you have someone like John Malkovich being thoroughly entertaining in this film, so clearly they can make humour work in these films, they just can't be bothered to most of the time, so we get idiotic mini robots (with hair, for no apparent reason) or pointless additional characters that we're supposed to care about sufficiently so that it matters when they get offed - it's an annoying CG character - the on screen execution of it is a relief, not a cause for poignant emotional reflection.
That's the problem with these films - however much good work they do, they have to take a massive steaming dump all over it before they're happy, and unfortunately the lasting impression is of the steaming turd and not the potential awesomeness beneath.

was ok

was enjoyable but had many downsdes:

1. after 3 movies the plot doesnt make sense

2. ridiculous stuff like people sitting out fights or surviviving anything....

3. felt rushed at the beggining and end

4. Decepticons all look the same as usual.....

5. action is great ---but 3 movies later might seem the same stuff.

Great!!!

This was the first Transformers film that I could follow and not get lost.. Because I had no idea what the fuck was going on in TF1 or TF2.. TF2 actually put me to sleep from all the shit transforming so fast and quick jerky cuts that blurred all together.. Whats the point of watching giant transforming robots fight if u don't know what u r watching.. This movie got it right.. The action was slowed down just enough to understand and the cuts were longer.. My roommate saids shooting in 3D forced

i loved it. robots fucking up robots, fucking up buildings, fucking up people. i loved when the humans got shot and their skulls rolled off after they disintegrated. i loved the 3D. i loved the stupid humor. i loved the victoria's secret model even though she looks sort of deformed. enjoyable from start to finish.

It was dumb, mind numbing, eye filling, bad dialogue, off the wall, and plotholed, and exactly what I needed. There are Great films and there are entertaining ones. this was how summer movies should be, pure entertainment.

Me and the family went today -

Me and the family went to see it today. It was my first imax/3d movie. Why all the hate ? It was everything I expected in a transformers movie. I thought it was just a kickass time. The whole family loved it.

Ending felt rushed

I had fun but I thought the ending felt like it was missing any kind of wrap up. The battle ended and then cut to black. Come on how bout a little closure.

Best out of the three

When I saw the first, I came out saying, "eh, its ok"
The second I came out saying "god that was boring and dumb"
This one, "that was pretty bad ass"

The story was a bit choppy. But other than that, it had all my favorite elements of the franchise, humor and action. The humor I thought was great. Shia I thought did a good job, and I am much happier with the new girl than Megan Fox.

Great explosion porn, terrible humanity

The action scenes I thought were simply terrific. Bay's best explosion porn yet.

Other than the babe being a super-babe, I didn't find a single human character compelling at all. The entire middle act could have been erased; no one gives a rat's ass about The Beef's character job hunting.

But, after an hour of tedium, the last hour of absurd action was terrific. Bay actually held the camera still while watching big robots tear eachother apart, and it was great.

Not nearly as

Not nearly as supremely terrible as the second flick. Will watch again on my big screen at home, with a fast-forward button within easy reach.

it could have been so much better!

the action scenes were great. prob the best action out of all three movies.

however, the movie took itself way to seriously. it got a little too dark for being a movie based on a toy line. i didn't like how they show the transformers killing people. i didn't like how the transformers bled this time around. and why the hell is sam carrying a gun?! i guess they were trying to go the "Dark route" ala TDK or something, but that's just inappropriate for the transformers franchise.

this movie also made no sense when it comes to the others in the series. this stroyline would have worked for TF 2 or something, but it totally doesn't make sense with what happened before it. if the events of the third movie were the "master plan" all along... then wtf were they doing in the second movie?

also, the movie ends with optimus prime kind of being a douche.

It was better than the second film, but I found it to be kind of boring. Yes, the special effects were great, but none of the action really had me excited. The first half also felt like it dragged. The excitement that I felt during the first film just wasn't there. Maybe I'm just bored with the Transformers now.

Is this one better than the second? It is... but it's not comparable to the first. The action scenes are much more violent and easy to decipher, and they were gorgeous. I have no idea how they made Chicago look like a warzone but the CGI was insanely good.. some of the best I've seen. The movie opens with a shot right out of the opening of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith though, and I knew I was in for more of the same. Seriously, this movie has about a good 45 minutes that could have been

The movie opens with a shot right out of the opening of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith though, and I knew I was in for more of the same. Seriously, this movie has about a good 45 minutes that could have been cut and kept the plot moving right along. The twins may have been gone but the tiny autobots that follow around Sam were as annoying and desperate for laughs. The one liners were mostly flat, Ken Jeong was overacting and awful as usual and Shia was the only one really delivering (aside from Alan Tudyk who was great). Rosie-Huntington Whiteley replaces Megan Fox as the "shoot her in slow motion and watch teenage boys cream their pants" role. Her chemistry with Shia is actually real and honest, unlike the last forced romance and we get the sense that they BOTH actually care about each other, and not just Sam lusting over Mikaela. I mean, it's not Gone with the Wind type of stuff but it's miles ahead of the relationship in the last 2.

The storyline was more coherent this time around and actually came together in the end, but there was too much fluff and filler that had no reason to be there and held the movie back. I liked this movie better then the 2nd and it had much better action, a ton of emotional energy from some of the actors, and a straight-forward plot with some decent twists.. but it's still nothing better then "ok". I didn't hate it by any means and had a blast with certain parts (specifically the action and Shia or Alan Tudyk's scenes) but it all just felt so "meh" .

Eh...

I went into this expecting Bay trying to redeem himself after TF2,secretly hoping that he would pull off the epic action heavy flick this property could be. He cut the parents' roles down quite signifcantly, which was nice, but Sam is written as this quirky kid who has no self confidence unless he's running scared shitless from robots trying to kill him. I though it was kind of refreshing how some of the returning characters didn't return in exactly the same manner. Josh and Tyrese weren't

I though it was kind of refreshing how some of the returning characters didn't return in exactly the same manner. Josh and Tyrese weren't still buddies in the miltary; Frances McDarmand was more of a hardnosed government agent than Turturro, but in t he end, when little freshness there wasn't wound up being stale in a shit ton of unoriginality. Whatever happened to the possibilty of Unicron I once heard about? That probably would have worked better than the Cyberton link that went haywire. I also find it a little more than lame that Megatron actually sat out for most of the last battle. Really? There's alot of things wrong this film. I saw it 2D, and there were parts where the action would slow down non-sensically, and I got the feeling that they reworked some of it just to fit the 3D format, which leaves it feeling clunky. There were more than a few times where I felt bored, which is better than feeling annoyed like I did with TF2. There's no twins or robot balls, so that marks it better than it's predecessor, but not by much. I kinda wish I'd seen it in 3D to see if the 3D is actually any good, but I have no desire to see this again. It's not horrrible, but it's still not living up to the potential that the first one seemed to hint at. 7/10

It's a piece of shit.

If for no other reason than that they turned Optimus Prime into a blood-thirsty sociopath.
A sociopath that, despite having blades for arms that seem to cut through anything and being powerful enough to punch through buildings and Decepticons, can't "untangle" himself from a few steel wires for 15 minutes.
It probably has the best CGI to date, that's all the nice I can say about it.

Pretty lousy movie. I really thought the negative reviews were coming from people who just didn't get it. But I was wrong. There's nothing to get. I really hope Bay is done with Transformers, and goes back to PEOPLE vs PEOPLE. Hopefully it'll be Bad Boys 3, or maybe something with Nic Cage again. He could use Bay' help. And why did the writers write such a horrible role for Ken Jeung. That dude is funny, but he was terrible in this. Bay is still a hell of an action director, he's just better

One word: Meh....

I thought Bay learned his lesson. I should've expected less. I was going to rate this movie a 1 and 1/2 star but I'll give it 2 like I did "REVENGE OF THE FALLEN" but I still think movie 1 was the best of them all.

"Transformers 3" is dumb, bloated, excessive, and disappointing. Oh, sure, at times it's fun but that's the first 10-20 minutes and the last hour and half. The middle of that is filled with useless, unnecessary fluff. It surprises me as a viewer how Spielberg, the producer on

"Transformers 3" is dumb, bloated, excessive, and disappointing. Oh, sure, at times it's fun but that's the first 10-20 minutes and the last hour and half. The middle of that is filled with useless, unnecessary fluff. It surprises me as a viewer how Spielberg, the producer on this franchise, doesn't just sit Bay down and tell him to maybe cut this or that. There's minutes of cringeworthy, stupid stuff that aggravated me. I more wanted to pull my hair out or dip my head into a face palm than laugh.

Maybe I'm becoming persnickety in my old age, but I DON'T GIVE A SHIT about Shia Labeouf or the humans in these movies. Sure, it's suppose to bring a human factor into it--- like this is our fight too for our planet, but the wonderfulness of the cartoon was to see gigantic metallic beings from another world dish out some ass-kicking to each other in the classic battle of good versus evil.

I find the human stuff to be boring. I care more about if Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and the Autobots will live or die. Who cares if Sam Witwicky hasn't found a job! And by the way?I really missed Meagan Fox. Sure, she isn't a spectacular actress but least she isn't a plastic British Barbie Doll like his new gal.

Patrick Dempsey plays her boss and he is a complete douche. Frances McDormand is also in it as a masculine Barbara Boxer-like Homeland Security Director but instead of playing a memorable Coen Brothers'-like character, here she comes off as bitchy. John Turturro is back as Agent Simmons and let me just say?I've hated his character in all these movies. I don't find him funny at all but a complete loser. I love Turturro and his character work in other movies, but I find his character needless.

And maybe that's my whole problem with these movies in general is not the overabundance of explosions or action but the comic-relief. Sure, I don't want a movie like this to not have in a little bit of comedy, but I just wish these films could be treated more as say "Lord of the Rings" where we have epic grand-scale battles with characters we really care about and invest ourselves in against diabolical evildoers.

The story was a good one to tell but it gets lost inside a sea of pointlessness. It's too bad because I was really rooting for this last movie, but I feel really bummed out. Especially , due to the fact, that, not to spoil too much, but it feels like there's no real ending. Guy gets girl, bots save day, but it has a 'all of that and now what?' feel to it.

A part of me wants to see a fourth movie but without Bay behind it while another part of me just wants to scream out, "REMAKE!"

I think as time moves on, I'll continue to have the latter sentiment.

These bots deserve better. They deserve a movie much like the cartoons--- no human characters unless there's a reason for them being in it. No unnecessary cameos or stupid shit. That's exemplified. DONE!

Give me more Transformers and less Transformers-lite.

Spock is in it!

Here's the rundown...
Action sequences: pretty damn cool
Plot: It'a a bay movie, what plot?
Editing: Kinda jerky, sometimes I wondered if I missed something.
Acting: Shia is funny as Sam once again, The new girl with the big lips is easy on the eyes, but she should keep her day job.
Part one of this series is still the best in my opinion. Part three coming in as the next best in the series. I'm almost embarrassed to say I was confused by Dark of the moon. I couldn't figure out which

I couldn't figure out which Decepticon was Soundwave. Was he the bird looking one, the worm thing, or...Ahh forget it. Who was the Einstein looking autobot? Why was Spock quoting lines from Star Trek? Rather than ask too any questions, I just decided to sit back and have fun with it. If you look at plot holes and inconsistencies, and weird editing, you are not going to enjoy this film. In sum, I missed Megan Fox, action was cool, story was not terribly good. If you want to enjoy a good popcorn flick, check it out. If you're looking for great acting and plot, go see Green Lantern...um wait nevermind.

I'm noticing a little pattern here. If you post a positive review, you get thumbs down by many. C'mon people, it's their own personal thought! If it doesn't agree with you, you give it thumbs down? Pretty stupid.

So that means thumbs up for you, cause you comment is relevant.

Seriously?

It confuses me how movies that aren't that bad (POTC4) get bombed on but movies like TF3 are considered "popcorn fun". Really? I'm not a TF hater. In fact, I vouched for TF2 calling it "crappy but watchable and visually stunning". I still vouch for it. But TF3, apart from Optimus and Bumblebee, was a clusterf*ck that had moments worse than the second film. The acting is horrible, nobody seems to give a shit about anything, and the visuals have actually gotten 'noticeable'. They're quite bad in some scenes. Plus, the soundtrack isn't great, and sometimes even too corny. There are just too many cringe-inducing scenes in TF3 for me to let it slide. I went in expecting nothing but a brainless summer popcorn flick but what I saw was a lazy, half-assed, misguided attempt at redemption that utilized chimpanzees for editors.

The action was sweet, though. The rest was a major letdown. *sigh*

TF3 rocked. Delivered exactly what I was hoping. Awesome 3D, awesome action. If you saw the first two and were dissapointed this wasn't Citizen Kane, you're an idiot.
I guess some poeple just can't/won't appreciate a film for what it is, but instead compare it to some idealized perfect film in their heads they can't even explain.
All the unjustified negativity for this will be in direct proportion to the unjustified positivity for TDKR. Guaranteed.

This is not unjustified negativity. And you know why TDK (and TDKR, probably) get positive reviews? Because there's genuine effort put into those films. There's quality. Other than the sweet action and Optimus scenes, TF3 failed in every other way. Just plain bad all over.

Barely Better than the Second

The movie was a dumpster fire. Not the raging neighborhood threatening dumpster fire that the second movie was, but a dumpster fire nonetheless. Terrible script, terrible acting, terrible movie. At the end Optimus Prime disappears for like 40 minutes and then just pops up again. And when you start bringing up science reality in your head while watching a movie about giant transforming robots, is when you know you're watching a turd sandwich of a flick. What was happening at the end? Wouldve in

I'm putting Transformers on the same shelf with Pirates of the Carribean. Its the shelf where clearly the first movie had to be a fluke, because its the only one in the series worth a shit.

Good God there's rampant hate here...

Plain and simple, I had a blast. Obviously in no way perfect, but come on! I think people get WAY too into hating on Bay, I really do. I honestly can see the dislike for his work but this movie was exactly what I thought it would be. I am 100% with Arrow in the Head :) Fun. That's what I had.

At least it was better than Revenge Of The Fallen

You know when you're on a first date with a pretty cute chick and things are going great when all of a sudden - BAM! - you have to drop a deuce? Now, you have to excuse yourself to go to the bathroom but you don't want to be in there too long as she'll figure out you're not just going to pee and you're afraid that she might get a little grossed out. In there for 3 or 4 minutes, no problem. In there long enough to do your taxes and she's gonna expect you to walk out smelling like a litter box

In there for 3 or 4 minutes, no problem. In there long enough to do your taxes and she's gonna expect you to walk out smelling like a litter box that hasn't been cleaned all week. There's no way to be smooth when you're walking out of the can after a marathon dump. So, you try to maximize the pushing to minimize the time, only to realize you're not getting enough fiber in your diet and end up blowing out your o-ring in hopes of breaking the 5-minute crap. You end up being in there for 10 minutes anyway and are walking funny when you leave the bathroom because you just left your lower intestine in the toilet. You attempt to cover yourself by spraying some air freshener and saying you were on your cell phone - she ain't convinced. And the smell has invariably followed you after all, and she has that 'look' on her face. So after all that, you're in a modicum of discomfort, most likely not even getting a goodnight kiss, and your date's gonna tell all her friends you smell like apple-raspberry and shit.

...That's what watching Transformers: Dark Of The Moon was like.

At the end of the day, it sounds like everyone has contributed to the box office. I don't get why the same people bashing TF2 went to this movie? Call me a mindless drone, sheep, or whatever. It's a movie about alien robots. Please go back and watch the cartoons and compare! It's all about the dollar and explosions! Like I said I'm a mindless drone.

HIT AND MISS

T2:ROTF is one of the worst films ever committed to digital film. Now having said that T3:DOTM is vastly superior, with its photo-realistic CGI and brilliant CGI also incredible cinematography. I could actually see what was going on but unfortunately the bad comedy relief and some awful pacing maked me give this film an average 5/10 You can be the most beautiful looking film ever but if you don't have the brains to back it up then you wont be a classic like Terminator 2.

Also, I think it was hilarious that they didn't spend much time explaining why Megan Fox wasn't in the movie. I think it's more insulting that they spent less time on her, as opposed to wasting time explaining why she is no long involved in Sam's life.

I loved Dark of the Moon.

I loved the movie. I think most bad reviews are from people who are trying to go against the grain. There wasn't a moment during the movie where I was bored. Judging by the applaud after the movie [rarely happens], a lot of people would disagree with the bad reviews. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I've yet to see a good argument for why the movie was bad.

I felt my brain cells dying.

I haven't been going to the movies as often as I used to, and movies like this are a big part of the reason why. The 3D didn't do a damn thing (and my theater wasn't showing it in 2D), the plot was little more than an excuse to throw Michael Bay's trademark explosions in my face, the human characters were boring, the love interest was a living prop who was only there to get kidnapped and move the plot along, and I don't think that all the laughs I heard in the crowded theater I was in were

I can only say three good things about this movie: Mudflap and Skids were gone, the robot characters managed to hold my interest while the humans stank up the place, and the awesome finale showed us why Michael Bay still has a career in Hollywood. But fifteen bucks for a 3D ticket? Hell, even the normal $11 price ain't worth it. At least I brought my own snacks.

I really wanted to like this, especially since Shia was saying how it was SO much better than the 2nd. Well you know he HAD to say that shit because Spielberg probably ripped him a new asshole.
Too long, too corny (yes, even for a Transformers movie) and just too Blah. Script was pretty shitty.
Gotta say, and I know I'll get a ton of negatives for this, but I did miss Fox being in this and thought the 2nd was better!
Save your money & rent it instead.

Gah...

I want to address to all the "what else did you expect?" people writing their reviews on here...

Just because a film is centered around the concept that there are Giant Robots, does not entitle the film to offer you a mediocre story. Let's be honest, if the Bat-films sucked, would you all be saying, "What did you expect? It's a movie about a grown man that dresses up like a Bat!?" And don't go telling me it's any different. Batman was created for Children's comic books.

As it is, the Batman franchise is huge because it takes itself so seriously and treats it's subject with respect. These Transformer films COULD do the same, but instead waste their audience by throwing in irrelevant moments of humour that nobody wants in the first place.

All you people who defend it because "well, it's just a stupid summer blockbuster, afterall." are merely becoming complacent, and as a result, Hollywood movies will continue to fall short of expectations but make huge amounts of money.

This is not something we should all just be thankful for. We shouldn't be satisfied by, "Well, at least it looked cool!"

Everyone's got their own opinions -- that's fine. If you enjoyed it, you're a lucky one. But don't go around telling other people how to feel about it. If they thought it was a pile of shit, then they're allowed to think it was a pile of shit.

That's all I wanted to say.

Preach it, sir! There is no excuse for mediocrity or the miss handling of a beloved franchise no matter how out there the concept is. These movies are escapism yes, but can be handled with a degree of respect and more often than not are successful because of that. It's the respect Christopher Nolan has for Batman and Peter Jackson has for Lord of the Rings that made those movies so well. Bay's disgust for his own property comes through every scene and frame of all the Transformers movies.

Buuuut.. it IS just a movie about giant robots... The way I see it, when a film comes out, look at the talent involved in it's creation. Depending on who is involved, I will judge it accordingly. As for Transformers, it's helmed by Michael bay and the main character is played by Shia LaBeouf. If thats doesn't tell you anything right there, then I seriously don't know what you were expecting.

This is from my facebook page where I do all my movie reviews

The old saying goes "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". There is no third option but I guess it would be "fool me a third time, I'm a damn fool" and that's exactly how I feel about the third and hopefully last Michael Bay Transformers movie. This movie is beyond awful, it's loud, overly long, predictable, boring, ultra conservative and fetishisizes the military to the point of looking ridiculous. I'm not even going to give this thing a rundown as there is absolutely nothing

This movie is beyond awful, it's loud, overly long, predictable, boring, ultra conservative and fetishisizes the military to the point of looking ridiculous. I'm not even going to give this thing a rundown as there is absolutely nothing good about it at all.
Many critics say that you have to turn your brain off to enjoy any Michael Bay endeavor (especially the Transformers franchise) and I've always felt that is a load of horseshit. The first thing Michael Bay ever did was the Aaron Burr got milk commercial, which was actually clever and no one had to kill any brain cells to enjoy. His first movie was Bad Boys with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith and it is a great buddy cop movie that you can enjoy with all grey matter intact. The fact of the matter is, a good movie no matter the genre should never ask you to surrender your intelligence to have a good time and instead should use the knowledge from every asset of filmmaking so that the audience is entertained and leaves the theater thinking about how great the movie is in an honest non-superficial way. "Turn your brain off" is a sad, lazy, cop out of an opinion/suggestion that I wish had never been uttered.
There are so many horrible things about this movie I actually have nowhere to begin. I guess for starters there are too many damn characters that are just human cartoons. Instead of John Tuturro hamming it up we got a waisted John Malkovich roll, a bizare Ken Jeong performance for no reason, Francis McDormant going in and out of over the top and subdued, and Patrick Dempsey in what has to be the most ridiculous antagonist in a blockbuster which already features two giant robots filling that roll somewhat adequately. The new girl Rosie Huntington Whitley isn't so bad but is given nothing to do but look hot and try to push romantic conflicts on Shia LaBouff's character that never seem authentic, genuine or real.
People keep saying this movie is the best one or at least better than the second but for me it was more like being given two plates of shit and then a third plate of garbage, all three are regurgitated and smell bad so why mention the word good at all? As a fan of properly done 3D this movies runtime of 2hrs and 30 mins did it no favors. Avatar worked because the whole story took place on a different planet, here we get dutch angles in really bright buildings, dutch angles in really dark buildings or dutch angles in the street. The new 3D design of the T'formers themselves gives them so much detail which goes from impressive to a huge disadvantage once you can see how repetitive their movements are. 40 mins in I was so tired of looking at the T'formers I wanted to leave. I actually lost count of how many times I wanted to just leave this movie as it was every other thought I had aside from pondering ways to get my butt from becoming numb.
I have been a geek my entire life, past writing/being creative I actually have no other desirable skills beyond possessing entertainment knowledge and commenting on it. I do have somewhat of an attachment to the Transformers franchise as they came out when I was an impressionable 4 year and did own both Optimus and Bumble Bee action figures; it troubles me that they got the wrong man to make not one, not two but three really misguided attempts at these characters and the world of their story. The Transformers were never about explosions and military might/right. The Autobots were peaceful refugees from a war torn planet who were making the best of being lost and stranded on a new world completely foreign to them. The Decepticons were greedy war mongers who followed the surviving Autobots to Earth and wanted to deplete it of all it's resources as they had previously done to Cybertron. The once peaceful Autobots are forced to defend their new home against the threat of the Decepticons and we get some badass giant robot battles. All of that is enough for a good movie trilogy without unnecessarily bringing in a human anchor with a hot girl friend, unneeded lame and out of place comedy bits or digs at the government while making a full blown commercial for the military.
What troubles me the most about this entire experience is that I'm either preaching to the choir or talking into the abyss while this entire opinion falls on deaf ears. No matter how many bad reviews there are, this movie is still going to make truckloads of money, people love the spectacle no matter if it's good or not which is all kinds of sad and disheartening. Even I'm guilty as I did pay my 16.50, showed up to the theater an hour early and stood in a long bending line just like everyone else. However, unlike everyone else my brain was still on and I can see this spectacle for the bloated mess that it is. It's becoming increasingly hard to exist in a world where so few of us have our brains turned on. Another infuriating fact is that Hangover Part II (which I loved) was criticized for being a retread of the original and Green Lantern (which I also loved) was savaged for being too complicated, boring, with lame characters, bad acting, bad editing and art design while Transformers Dark of the Moon is all of that and more. I can't even believe someone would make a movie this year that was worse than Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch but Michael Bay has found a way.

0/5 hot wings

List of the Top 10 Action/Sci-Fi Action movies I have never needed to turn my brain off to enjoy
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Die Hard
Terminator 2
Jurassic Park
Mission Impossible (1996)
The Matrix
Minority Report
The Dark Knight
Avatar
Inception

That's three Spielberg's, two Cameron's and two Nolan's; all three men use their brains while they were working and have no problems if you use yours while your watching.

Your review is good...except for the book report like rundown of the plot...the review doesn't need it at all- makes it feel so [link] else in the review is great- cut the plot synopsis 101 bit out- and it's golden...also "quire" is spelled "choir"...good review tho.

Not a single action scene in this movie seemed earned, they just kind of happened. There wasn't a moment when I was in fear for the main characters safety or well being, you just new that everything was just going to work out for them and maybe they will get a scratch or two at most. Because of that, there was no sense of tension and that bothered me considering the events you are seeing. Michael Bay is seriously better then this.

Here's something I've come to terms with when it comes to reviews. If people will lambast something of the scope of this film, you don't enjoy movies. If you don't appreciate what went into bringing something on such a large scale, a creation this bombastic to life for your entertainment, you're an over entitled spoiled brat.

With that said, I don't know what more you could really want from an action film based around this universe. The argument has always been "DURR TEH STOREE IZ STOOPID",

With that said, I don't know what more you could really want from an action film based around this universe. The argument has always been "DURR TEH STOREE IZ STOOPID", but what kind of story do you really need when the basis of your film is giant robots beating the crap out of each other and explosions? I mean, come on, really, be realistic in your expectations.

If you can't enjoy films like this for what they are, you shouldn't be going to the movies. Some of my favorite films of all time consist of timeless classic like Doctor Zchivago, The Shawshank Redemption, Gone With The Wind and many more, and yet I can still marvel at what was created for the entertainment purposes in this film.

Seriously, if the skydiving sequence didn't grab you, you'll never be impressed by anything Hollywood will offer you in the future for your consumption, so stop going to the movies.

Stop being ridiculous sir, the fact that the scope is so big and dedicated people worked on such a bad movie is what makes it terrible. There have been four part episodes of the cartoon better than all three movies.

Three Times, You're Out!

I hate this film. I think everyone is mistakenly comparing it to "Revenge of the Fallen" and of course it will look good next to that - what wouldn't? This film is as bloated, loud, dull as the previous film and likewise full of painfully awkward moments. I loved the first film: 3.5 out of 4. Loathe the second: 0 out of 4. And this one, 1 out of 4. But you have to get a load of this: anyone else catch the few frames of Bay's film "The Island" inexplicably edited into this film? It's

It's during the action scene on the freeway, with LaBeouf and Turturro getting chased by Decepticon SUVs which transform and star throwing cars all over the place. Right in that sequence, there are several frames from the chase scene in Bay's 2005 film "The Island" cut into it, where we see a Dodge Magnum start flipping over. Was a $250 million budget not enough? Bay had to plagiarize himself and reuse footage from another of his films? But that pretty much sums of the level of "professionalism" you get with this film. Truly disappointing!

Thank you for not letting me be the only one to notice the use of footage from The Island. Now i am truly disgusted with Bay.When this chase appeared i spent the rest of the movie so pissed as i couldn't believe a movie the size of this had to resort to the film making standards of an 80s tv show!Sure this will movie will be a vast steaming hit but really Bay hang your head in shame!

Gargabe

I could go on for days about all the things that make me feel the way I do, but honestly, these movies don't deserve the time I would spend writing it. Long story short, the first one sucked. The second one sucked even more, and this is just more of the same. It's worthless.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Wow, wow, wow. This movie's got it all. The flight suit sequence over Chicago is amazing and once again, Optimus Prime shows why he is the ruler of the Autobots; by kicking Mr. Spock's ass.

That final hour is trully amazing the soundtrack wowww especially on that highway chase but this movie as so many bad moments it gets painfull. They try to make 100 jokes in the movie and it only works 10 times if they reduced to 10 they would still have a funny movie and less 20 minutes wich would be great. The acting as some good and some bad i fucking hate that chinese guy but patrick did impressed me and the girl is hot beyond belief and does her part well be hot ... lol even tough i think

Saw it this afternoon, and I have to say that this is the first movie that actually felt like a big summer movie. It was fun, and this is what the first two movies should have been like for the series. Is the humor silly? No more so than a live action movie based on a toy line and a cartoon series. The two Star Trek jokes actually made me laugh considering who one of the voice actors is in the movie. I saw this in 2D, and it honestly didn't feel like 2.5 hours since it moved at a really good

Rosey was actually a great replacement for Megan "Toe-Thumb" Fox, and she didn't seem out of place other than how a guy that looks like LaDouche could get a girl that looks like her. I'd see it again, which I couldn't say for Green Lantern.

Great movie but

I wish they would stop with the stupid humor, it's not funny. Stick with what you are best at action sequences with giant robots.

ALAN TUDYK is BRILLIANT

Bay had such a great understanding of 3D and it's visual space, through camera movement and pacing, really allowing the audience to gain spectacle to how grandiose some of the actions scenes really are. The bash against Megan Fox was perfect. The flying squirrel suit sequence was exhilarating. I loved watching the soldiers tactically take down the various Decepticons. The collapsing building sequence was heart-pounding. I'd love to see a film solely based on Dutch's backstory.

The Island car chase

Not checked all the posts or reviews on T3 but hope someone else noticed the freeway chase sequence seemed to feature footage from the awesome car chase from The Island.Either i'm going insane or Bay's movies are really looking identical or this is the laziest bit of film making of the year!Loved the first movie but not much love for parts 2 & 3.

I think it's common, for instance the clouds that were used in Neverending Story, then Brazil, then Back to the Future. Sometimes the shots are just that appreciated. Maybe it could be looked at as kind of a visual Wilhelm Scream.

Pretty awesome

Hate Bay all you want, but no one delivers THAT kind of spectacle.
The 3D was fantastic and Bay's smoother/slower editting/shooting style suit it very well. This film has more money shots than a dozen bukakke shoots!
The story is no worse than most blockbusters and easy to follow, so you actually know what's going on and why.
Rosie was hot, hotter than Fox and actually has class.
A better movie than I thought it would be and visually stunning.
And the sound mix was unbelievable.

I loved it alot expect for...

My theater was showing it in IMAX, (LAME), the annoying editing of the movie when they showed the stupid fade in fade out black screen. Took away from the film. They didn't explain what happen to Mikaela at all, right away where introduce to this new CHICK. I felt like it was rused. I didn't care for the cheesy ending too much. I love bad endings where the bad guys win. but it's hollywood so what can you expect. If this was an indie film I bet you that the deceptions would of won. But I want

Remember that Paul W Anderson said after RE 2: there would have been NO MORE. the RE:3 came out and he said the same thing then 4. I hope they continue this do a prequel on cyertron. That would own. But for me the robots felt more real in this. ANd there was so much mayhem and death and violence. Even people died. I swear I could of sworn I saw two people blow up like explode. COuld have been me but who knows. I enjoyed it I am going to see it again in IMAX. Oh and I hated the girl I thought she was lousy, she wasn't even attractive. But I did love the whole VS opening shot they gave her, since MB did direct VS commericals before.

why would they have to explain what happened to Mikaela? They probably broke up and he has moved on. Two years have passed in real time since the last movie, and more have passed inside the movie, that enough time has elapsed for the to have broken up long enough ago and Sam to have gotten over it to the point that there is no need to talk about her.

He got over their break up, or she died and he got over that as well. either way, there is zero relevance to this movie why anyone would have

They did mention what happened to her. She broke up with Sam. The mini-bot sidekicks made a quick reference to it. And the mom made a comment about he needs to hold on to this really hot girl since lightening apparently struck twice, but don't expect it again.

It was what it was. Of course you don't go in expecting No Country For Old Men and spectacle has its place. That being said, coming off of ROTF, it feels like a movie on par with the first, but let the feelings of "Man, that was so much better than 2," wash away, it's definitely not on par with 1. The second hour makes up for the first and it earns its 3D stripes, all in all, you could have a worse time at the movies, but you could always have a better time. Check your brain out, if you can

Great

For a movie based on kid's toys I got everything I wanted. Optimus Prime was a HUGE part of my childhood growing up. Days upon days were spent watching cartoons and playing with my prized Optimus Prime action figure. So seeing him kickass on the big screen 3 times was such a treat for the kid in me. I don't really understand what people are expecting here from these movies, Oscar-worthy thespian work? It's a action vehicle based on kid's action figures. If you can't enjoy films like these

Go buy season one of the cartoon and re-watch it. Then you'll know why we are bitching. Sounds like you have some memories of the toys etc, but go see what stories brought those toys to life! Then you'll know why the films suck.

I am sorry to say, but it seems like you de-volved, which is a shame.

I haven't seen this installment yet, but for the first two, I wanted action scenes I could follow (the ending of the first, and all of the second are some of the worse edited action beats I have ever seen). I don't want random dogs humping for no damn reason. I need pot brownie jokes, this is suppose to be about giant space alien robots fighting, why is there always 5 hours worth of human stupidity in them?

I wish you would

I wish you would grow up, and get some knowledge. Summer blockbuster does not mean it needs to be so stupid it's insulting.

A lot of Fun!

This was best of the three although the 2nd had more amazing action sequences but all and all very good! This is how a summer movie should be. Over the top action and explosions. Let us all leave the thinking movies for September when the Oscar films are in. GO SEE IT IN 3D!

AMAZING, AWESOME, INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC

Transformers 3 was EPIC!! Best 3D movie EVER!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I love Megan Fox, but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is hotter than her, a much better actress and she has the SEXIEST ACCENT.

I don't want to sound like a troll because I really wanted to enjoy this movie but was so terrible. It was horrible. I know most of you like myself want to enjoy mindless summer action but this wasn't even entertainment. It was so boring! The movie made no sense and midway through I didn't even care what was going on. Didn't really want to find out either. The first hour and half were pointless. The whole story angle with Patrick Dempsey was horrible and completely hard to grasp. My 4 friends

The whole story angle with Patrick Dempsey was horrible and completely hard to grasp. My 4 friends and me had to keep each other from dozing off at times. When the last 40 minutes hit I'll admit it was entertaining but nothing we haven't seen before. It felt like generic explosions and bullets flying just as in every other Michael Bay movies, some which I've enjoyed as mindless fun. The last fight scenes with Optimus and Sentinel and Megatron were a let down and the movie felt soooooooo long. Like it would never end. I can't really criticize the new girl to harsh because she had nothing to do but stand and walk sexy from any angle Bay filmed her. And I've heard people say that it was funny but I couldn't laugh at hell. Maybe little kid jokes and insults dont cut it anymore. I think this might be karma for being too harsh on Green Lantern because that movie was much better than this one. Bring on the thumbs down

100 awful minutes followed by 40 mins of terrific action

Like getting an incredible piece of cake after a terrible meal.

Still not sure if it's enough to recommend the movie.

Entertaining

There was plenty of dumb shit, but more cool shit than dumb shit. The opening was really sweet. All the robot battles were awesome (and aplenty). I'm kind of used to the over-the-top humor that always goes on for too long, and it wasn't as bad this time (and almost a little endearing). The final hour was nuts though and was what a Transformers movie should be. I was definitely entertained and enjoyed the movie (which can't be said for the 2nd one).

It was OK

I thought the first half was extremely terrible. I found all of the jokes to be stupid and took me out of the experience. John Malkovich was a waste in this movie.

However, I didn't lose complete faith, and was able to get back into it, just in time to enjoy a pretty kick-ass second half (battle) of the movie. Although there was also some stupid stuff in this half, for the most part it was thoroughly entertaining.

The movie is a 5/10, though I'll give it a positive rating because of

I liked it

Transformers 3 is everything Transformers 2 should have been. The story was much better this time around, the action was top-notch, and the 3D was absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed the characters for the most part, with the exception of Ken Jeong (the annoying Asian guy from The Hangover and a bunch of other random appearances). I honestly didn't expect Rosie Huntington-Whitely to be such a great improvement over Megan Fox, but she was much easier to like as a character.

The humor was hit and

The humor was hit and miss. Fortunately, we didn't have any leg humping robots, pot ingested mothers, or robot testicles. Unfortunately, we did have Ken Jeong. A few of his moments were laughable, but I was praying for his demise and exit from the film very quickly. I don't think he's very funny - Oh, and an awkward penis joke from Sam's mother.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Transformers 3. There were a few editing problems and unnecessary shots that didn't really contribute anything to the film, as well as a few plot holes, but I'm not complaining this time around. Let's face it - Michael Bay doesn't make his movies based soley around substance. He has a much bigger eye for the visuals - and with Transformers 3, he gives us some of the best eye candy of the summer. At least until Potter.

Loved it!

It was exactly what I was hoping for. The action scenes absolutely owned and Hunington-Whiteley was even hotter than fox. I laughed quite a bit and thought the cameos were pretty good. People are complaining about the run time but I didnt even notice it. The only thing i thought was strange was the ending as it was kinda abrupt but maybe thats what they were going for. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the movies. 9/10 for this fucking guy.

Preferable to RoTF, but then so is tertiary syphilis. Some of the action beats are amazing, but LeBeouf is still terrible, Huntington-Whiteley even worse, and the succession of great actors being embarrassed is criminal. John Malkovich! Alan Tudyk! Frances McDormand! Why?! A resounding meh, from me- like Pirates, this is a series whose enjoyment is based on diminished audience expectation. "It's only a summer blockbuster."

Think people are way too harsh on these films..

Its kind of like you guys forgot what a summer blockbuster is.

The only complaint I had with this film was that it was about 20 min too long. Other then that it was exactly what we should be getting in a Summer film. It even went for a plot and gave everyone in the movie something to do

Jaws, T2, Die Hard, Raiders, etc, were all summer block busters. You forgot that summer blockbusters still had good stories and memorable characters.

2 different movies

I went in with very low expectations and the first half of the movie made me want to walk out. With a world so full of annoying humans, I was starting to want the Decepticons to kill everybody. The second half of the movie was much better. Ending was a tad weak, but some of those action scenes were the best I've seen. Come to the movie late and you'll be happy. Why does Bumblebee always disappear and reappear at the strangest times? 3D doesn't normally bother me, but I had a headache from

High hopes fell short...

I went into this film with hopes of a movie that was on par with the first movie, but it simply fell short of that. It was better then ROTF, but what does that say. Honestly, it was just boring. Like Bodom_fan says, Bay just doesn't get the balance right. The past 2 installments are so top heavy with humor that it pulls away from the fact that there are these robots going around. The setup was not worth the pay off. It just dragged to long. Of course the special effects were amazing

I shall await all the negative responses to this post, but really, once you get past the hype that has built up in yourself for the movie you will see how boring this movie really was. DISAPPOINTED. I wish I wasn't.

I watched it with a Transformers fan

and we were both howling with laughter at how bad it was. Shia LaBoeuf was annoying, Rose Huntington-Whitely made Megan Fox look like Natalie Portman and they could have easily cut half an hour from the running time without any problems. Overblown, overloud and overlong.

Admittedly, I laughed at Alan Tudyk and John Turturro but that was the only intentional comedy I enjoyed.

I really wanted to love this as much as the first...

but I found it only marginally better than ROTF. Some fantastic action sequences, but too many of the same mistakes carried through from the 2nd. I enjoyed it but certainly didn't consider it equal to the first. Some of the action sequences were very impressive, Leonard Nimoy was a great casting choice, but I still think Bay hasn't gotten the balance right since the first.

the best of the rest

overall i would say that i have a passing interest with the entire transformers franchise watched the original cartoons only here and there as a kid, but got huge into beast wars, and the following series, so when the movies came out i was midly interested the first one, i really enjoyed though i would say a little longwinded in terms of introductions but thats to be expected, the second was to focused on action liek they were saying hey its been five seconds without a fight, lets fight. so

the third is the best of the bunch its most comparable comparison for me would be revenge of the sith. it was a great blend of enough talk with enoguh action, the focus wasn't always on the humans, but not always on the robots, it wasn't too much trying to happen at once. just a great balance of film. and i can't praise galvatron enough, leonard nimoy to those not in the know. he was amazing in the role he played, the other new names brought in performed admirably as well, but nimoy for me took the show and even utters something that was both surprising and awesome to here. the action was intense the heart was there, and the 3d was actually kickass.
I have been seeing 3D on most films not because i wanted to but because i had no choice, but i can honestly say bay and his team know how to do the transformers and 3D its not gimmicky and its not awfully discoloured and annoying. less tutorro was a great blessing, and the new lady of the film i think is a much useful character. not to say megan didn't help but this new girl was fantastic.
to sum up the film is 4.5/5 if you get the chance and loved the first this surpassed both and is a strong film to take a break on. but i can easily say bring on more.
