What is Carell’s next?

Warner Bros. has paid a handsome $2 million for an untitled spec script by Dan Fogelman (CARS) that they hope will be the next film by Steve Carell. The script, written with Carell in mind, follows a father whose life begins to unravel while dealing with marital problems. Carell will produce the film via his Carousel Films production company.

The $2 million payout is one of the highest in 2009 for a spec and WB is clearly hoping they can convince Carell to hop on board quickly. While he’s on hiatus from “The Office,” he’ll have time to film one project and it’s either this film or the previously announced MAIL ORDER GROOM flick with Tina Fey. This likely means that GET SMART 2, once a priority for the studio, is now completely on the backburner and may never wind up getting made. Carell is currently filming DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS with Paul Rudd and Zach Galfianakis.
