What is the best Bond movie of them all? 15,000 voters can't be wrong

10.03.2012by:

With almost twenty-five Bond movies having graced cinemas for the last fifty years, everyone is going to have a favorite 007 movie. For me, it is hard to pick a single favorite. I would have to go top five. Even then, I am sure my picks would be different than everyone else, but we would all agree on which titles should be ranked at the top.

Bond fansite MI-6 HQ decided to hold a survey and find out what every Bond fan would rank as their top five in order to crown a true number one favorite. They received over 15,000 responses and weighed the results to find which movie is the best Bond of all.

#1 CASINO ROYALE

#2 GOLDFINGER

#3 FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

#4 ON HER MAJESTY"S SECRET SERVICE

#5 GOLDENEYE

I agree with these being five of the best Bond movies, but was shocked to see CASINO ROYALE come in at number one. I mean, it is the best Daniel Craig Bond movie (at least until SKYFALL), but the best of all time? Most voters would have to be younglings who voted on what was most fresh in their memories. Notice there are no Timothy Dalton or Roger Moore movies in the top five? Not shocking to me, but may be to Moore aficionados.

Click here for the full ranking of all the Bond movie results from the survey.

According to MI-6 magazine editor Hugh Maddocks: "The result may surprise some people, but the sheer sample size of the vote means this cannot be explained away as an anomaly or rounding error. When you consider how the demographic of Bond fans has shifted over the years, it's time for a reassessment of how the series stacks up."

A very interesting survey, indeed. And here is a cool infographic breaking down the influence the Bond franchise has had for the past half century. Click for a larger version.

Octopussy

Octopussy was my first foray into the world of Bond... and it me at "Hello, Moneypenny."
It's still my favorite.
It's funny, because my parents loved Connery. I cherish Moore. And the new crop of cinema kids look up to Brosnan and Craig. Alas, Bob Fleckman of Boise is the only Daltry fan on the planet. And he is blind.

As for Prologues, the best Bond Prologue is 'Tomorrow Never Dies' [link]

As far as my top 5:

1. A View To Kill
2. From Russia With Love
3. Casino Royale
4. Golden Eye
5. Tomorrow Never Dies

Also, I'm 25.

Unlike probably most of the people who voted for that poll, I actually have seen almost all the Bond movies (except one), and I'd rank my top 5 favorites as:

1. Goldeneye
2. Diamonds are Forever
3. Live and Let Die
4. Goldfinger
5. You Only Live Twice

I'm not that committed to the last pick actually. Could have easily said On Her Majesty's Secret Service or Die Another Day, or even The Living Daylights. Did not go for Casino Royale because the final act was so very disappointing.

Unfortunately there's more bad Bond movies then good, the worst of them being a tie between Moonraker and A View To a Kill.

The only one I missed was the one where Connery came back one more time after Moore's run, I think it was called Never Say Never Again.

Never a fan of the songs

I can't say i've heard them all, but the ones i have heard just arnt my style of music. I really liked Live and Let Die, but even that song is so uneven with its reggae interludes. it's weird.

But the opening sequences are always great to watch and i do love a good bond film. The music is part of the film mythos and i wouldnt take that away, just dont expect to find these songs on my ipod

Here you go...

1. Goldfinger-best Connery film.
2. Live and Let Die-best Moore film.
3. Goldeneye-best Brosnan.

While I'm a fan of many of the older movies, I haven't seen many of the newer ones.

Here's mine:

1. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME - it has everything I want in a Bond movie
2. GOLDFINGER - The classic James Bond, Connery at his best, and the best Bond villain ever
3. GOLDENEYE - It has Sean Bean, Fanke Jansssen, Alan Cumming, and Brosan at his best

My favourite pre-title sequence is Tomorrow Never Dies. Or GoldenEye. Or Casino Royale... God, I love 007!

WTF?

On her Majesty's secret Service is number 4? It is easily one of the worst. Barely escaped it with my sanity.
1. Probably Goldeneye, but I can be argued other ways
2. From Russia with Love
3. Goldfinger
everything else is kinda hard to rank, but i could watch these 3 again and again.

My favorite is Timothy Dalton...

...I don't care what anybody says, he was tough and brutal and badass 20 years before Craig came along.

My top 5 in no particular order:

License to Kill - GoldenEye - The Spy Who Loved Me - Casino Royale - Goldfinger

I can agree with the result

Mine's are:

2. GOLDENEYE
3. LICENCE TO KILL
4. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
5. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
Maybe I just prefer the grittier Bonds than the playful ones.

As much as I loved Casino Royale, it's too soon to say it was the best Bond movie (it's still in my top 5). Give it 20 years and lets see if it stands the test of time and truly becomes a classic. My 5:

2. Goldfinger - "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!!" Need i say more
3. Goldeneye - Pierce finally brings us his Bond! Sean Bean as a true brother/rival heck, even a possible replacement before Craig took over! And let's not forget "Straight up, with a twist!!"
4. The Living Daylights - Dalton's first turn at Bond was solid! His range of emotion, especially his coldness was one of the best of the bunch. It also featuring my favourite prologue.
5. Casino Royale - Craig lives the role, but Mads Mikkelsen stole the show as one of the best Bond villains truly brought to life

Best Bond Game: Goldeneye 64...hands down

Daniel Craig is a great actor but i think it is too soon to say Casino Royale is the best bond film of all...(it also happens to be the one i can never finish without falling asleep)...I think Goldeneye should've been number 3 though...It brought back the Bond series in the 90's and i think Brosnan was better than Lazenby..
Favorite Bond Songs though:
Live and Let Die - Sir Paul Mccartney
you just can't ignore a bond song by a beatle

But if I had to count a actual movie for the 5th spot it would probally be Licence to Kill.

you may say no surprise about Dalton, but Living Daylights is my top Bond movie and Dalton is my top actor to play the role.

1. Living Daylights
2. From Russia With Love
3. Casino Royale
4. Goldeneye
5. World is Not Enough/License To Kill (tie)

Anyone else notice that World is not Enough and Dark Knight Rises share similar villains?

I saw License to Kill on Cinemax recently and I liked it. The only problem was that Bond played the villain from beginning to end: the villain never stood a chance. It was like an episode of Mission Impossible.

So they asked 15,000 kids?

No way in hell is CR the best Bond movie? Maybe somewhere closer to 5 or 6, but come on thats like asking a teenage girl her favorite horror movie, its going to be the last one they saw (prolly house at the end of the street).

I dunno, I think in some ways that Casino Royale is the best Bond movie. Probably not my pick, I would probably say Goldfinger or On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but Casino Royale, for me, is right up there with them. Though as great as Daniel Craig is it's hard to top Connery for sheer charisma.

Who knows, maybe Skyfall could best them all. We can only hope that they keep getting better, right?
