What the hell did these kids find in this intriguing teaser for Earth to Echo?
So, the first time I've even heard of EARTH TO ECHO was about ten minutes ago when I saw the trailer. It happens. That said, it looks compelling enough to share with hints of the extraterrestrial genre mixed with some found footage-esque style. From the music to the sound effects (particularly of whatever the "thing" is these kids find) made me immediately think of the old-school '80's alien comedy flicks like EXPLORERS and CRITTERS. It's been a good while since we've had a decent alien (and I don't mean xenomorph) movie and this certainly looks like it has potential.
Don't touch it!:
Here's the synopsis:
After a construction project begins digging in their neighborhood, best friends Tuck, Munch and Alex inexplicably begin to receive strange, encoded messages on their cell phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they go to their parents and the authorities. When everyone around them refuses to take the messages seriously, the three embark on a secret adventure to crack the code and follow it to its source. But taking matters into their own hands gets the trio in way over their heads when they discover a mysterious being from another world who desperately needs their help. The epic, suspenseful and exciting journey that follows will change all of their lives forever.
Apparently, this was a Disney-produced feature that was picked up by Relativity, although it's unclear as to why Disney decided not to release it. It's got shades of SUPER 8 and CHRONICLE mixed in with THE GOONIES, so perhaps it was too old school for the studio. Either way, I'm interested to see more about this. It's got me on the line.
EARTH TO ECHO is set for release on April 25, 2014.
