What the hell is going on at the Dark Knight Rises web site?

To coincide with the DARK KNIGHT RISES Start of Production announcement yesterday (even though filming technically began about a week ago), Warner Bros. quietly launched the TDKR official website this morning. And? Your guess is as good as mine!

The page is completely black with absolutely no imagery. All there is at this point is a sound file (titled "rises") that plays automatically when the page is loaded. It's some kind of chanting like TEMPLE OF DOOM style. Or perhaps more correctly, Lazarus Pit style.

Of course this is all speculation at this point and no one really knows what this is just yet. Maybe someone will recognize the language and be able to decipher exactly what is going on here.

Head over to the site yourself and see if you can figure out exactly what's going on (or find something hidden that no one else has seen yet...).

UPDATE 3 - It's the first photo of Tom Hardy as Bane! The hashtags are still filling in but this is what you'll see when the mosaic is complete. Click to see in hi-res!

UPDATE 2 - Tweeting that hashtag apparently fills in an image hidden on the official site. See image below:

UPDATE - A poster on the Superhero Hype message boards was able to decipher the sound spectrum of the audio message and found something interesting hidden inside. A Twitter hashtag?...

i see it as...

The Fire Rises, refers to a scene in which Bane is on fire as a child and Raz Al Ghul finds him and notices that he has no reaction to being on Fire thus Bane can't feel pain. Raz sees this and knows its advantage and thus takes him in and trains him. He uses the Laz Pit to heal him as a child and thus a Father, Son relationship is born. So when Raz is killed in Batman Begins, Bane finds out and thus is out to kill the Batman. How does that sound?

And does a beloved character need to be so...VASTLY "remodeled"? I mean shouldn't there be a line between trying to reboot and re-imagine and just merely using a name as an "in" for a character and storyline you want to use?

The realism was refreshing in Begins, but with the speech at the end referring to "escalation", I figured that Nolan would start to move into the more unrealistic (and frankly, he could have done it justice considering no one really has in a live action forum) aspects of the character? I mean, TDK was still loyal to the characters (aside from Joker making two face as opposed to Maroni/Dent's self destructing obsession, although the prophetic dirty cops was a nice touch), but this just isn't Bane. I'm a Batman fanboy and I have loved Nolan's movies so far (and I'm hoping I'm just as wrong now as I was when I HEARD who was playing the joker), but unlike when I saw the first pic of the joker, I'm unimpressed and fearful of how this will turn out.

Bane's new look is exactly what I was hoping for! It's very similar to the Joker's makeover for TDK, in that it's something realistic but with a hint of the fantastical...or crazy.

Why not make a Batman film with Scarecrow as the main villain? Begins made it seem as if they would go in that direction, then they completely wasted him. All kinds of hallucination induced scenes would make for a great movie.

I'm liking this new style of Bane. Does anyone else notice the round circle at the back of Bane's mask? I do hope Nolan does keep in Bane's venom and doesnt try to take it out of the film to make it more realistic.

As for the mask though we have no context for it, so it might just be something he wears in one scene like an origin sequence, or something they put on him in prison to keep him from biting people like Hannibal Lecter, or maybe he doesn't even wear a mask most of the time for all we know and its just some kind of a breather mask he wears for his venom doses, so its to early to judge, esspecially since were not seeing it from the front either. People forget so easily how much they hated Heath Ledger's Joker before the film came out.

I don't think I heard anything positive about him until rumors about his performance on-set started leaking. And even then lots of people were skeptical (remember the whole "oh no he's on a skate board" thing? Yeesh)

I am as excited about this flick as the next guy. But am I the only one who doesnt really want to see anything from the film before it actually comes out ?

I might be old fashioned, or simply too old, but I've never gotten the excitement about those one-year long marketing campaign, where only bits at a time are revealed throughout the year. I know the movie is coming out next summer, I dont need 500 pictures and 45 trailers to remind me of it. Anyways, thats just me.

I dont really get this excitment. I mean its just a mouth piece really - I mean if this wasnt attached to the Dark Knight - i wouldnt know it was Bane. I am a fan of seeing the character on screen as well as the characterization. And i dont seem to get that here.

Cultists is pretty much the only word for it. It's a strange phenomenon, I can't think of any other film maker who's work gets defended with such a religious fervour.

Anyway, have to disagree. Batman Begins, once you get past the ninja shit in the snow, is a vastly superior film to TDK, the latter being a convoluted, over-written mess. Although I think time will be equally unkind to both. And yes, Bale is as bland as bland gets.

feeling bad

even though i enjoy nolan's work with bruce wayne, i can't wait until this trilogy is done so we can finally get a batman movie rather than smallville, and thats not a dig at smallville, nolan or batman. i love all the work done on all three movies, my only real problem is i want to actually watch a batman movie, not him becoming the dark knight, because to me they still aren't there, it feels like brice is still struggling to deal with his duel life. i want a batman who is already good to go and has been at it for at least 10 years. as dumb as it sounds to most, thats why i prefer the burton batmans because that batman was already working and had the duality under control.
also while i'm still trying to accept hardy as bane, i'm just having the toughest time given javier Bardem was the much better choice on all fronts but alas i'm not directing oh well.
But let me be clear so i'm not flamed wrongly, i'm not against this film i'm just not anticipating it. and before you ask then why read the article, i read all the joblo.com articles and only post on the ones i want.
so thank you nolan but move on, and lets have someone else at bat.

I SUPER agree with you man! You are on point – you wont be getting many positives. People didn’t actually read your comment – I too like the Nolan Batman’s but they are not really what Batman should be – and they aren’t terribly exciting. I just sit and watch them and say “that was a good movie” but I don’t get excited the way I would with the Chris Reeve Superman, or the first 2 Batmans by Timmy. Nolan’s batman is good – so I don’t complain, but again, its not really

Reminds me of viral stuffs from The Dark Knight. As for the website, it sounds like a chant - a ritual of some sort. At almost the end of the clip, it sounds like "Pick your butter" (?).
