What’s a Mnemovore?

Fans of the Elder Things (the ancient creatures of the Cthulhu Mythos, not senior citizens) got a treat this weekend at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland. No, not a surprise visit by Shub-Niggurath, but still a pretty cool bonus.

Filmmaker and comic scribe Hans Rodionoff brought along ten minutes of “proposal footage” for a movie he plans to adapt from his DC/Vertigo comic series MNEMOVORE, and the clip featured none other than gorgeous Kristen Bell (for whom I have an inappropriate amount of lust) and genre veteran Michael Biehn. The comic story is a supernatural thriller about an Olympic hopeful snowboarder stricken with amnesia, and she slowly realizes she’s dealing with a memory-eating Lovecraftian beast that has invaded her life. Sort of a MEMENTO with tentacles. (MEMENTACLES?)

Anyway, Rodionoff (a horror regular who penned MAN-THING and LOST BOYS 2, among others) revealed that Lovecraft fanatic Guillermo del Toro himself is executive producing, along with his AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS producer (and noted comic freak) Don Murphy. The purpose of the footage was to build buzz and secure funding for an eventual feature film, although it’s unknown if Bell and Biehn will be involved.

It’s important to note that Rodionoff is currently at work on TRANCE, from a script by our very own John Fallon, aka Arrow in the Head! It’s also important to note that this is what Kristen Bell looks like.
