What's new on Blu-ray and DVD this month? June 2016 banner

A new month brings a wealth of new Blu-ray and DVD releases, so now’s a great time to play catch-up and see what we have ahead of us in June! You can always head to our BLU-RAY AND DVD RELEASE DATES section for a more complete list, but in this column we’ll go over some of the more popular titles hitting shelves over the next 4 weeks!

June 7

The first week in June brings something for everyone, as we kick off this month’s new releases with Disney’s latest animated opus, ZOOTOPIA, featuring the vocal stylings of Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. For our action aficionados, we have Michael Bay‘s 13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI. If you’re craving a little science fiction, director’s cuts for both STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHANN and Ridley Scott‘s The MARTIAN are hitting store shelves. Don’t let any of that distract you from the genius that is Rick and Morty season 2, though!

June 14

June 14th kicks things off with the surprise somewhat-sequel, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, featuring some stellar performances from both Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman. If you want to keep the spooky vibes going, we also have the X-Files revival series, as well as JAWS 2 and 3! Which of those three is scarier is a question scientists are still debating. You can simplify things with some straight-up Gerard Butler action in LONDON HAS FALLEN, or the feel-good Hugh Jackman vehicle, EDDIE THE EAGLE.

June 21

This week is time to get your Greek on (roll with it) with MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2. If Greek isn’t your flavor, you can get a dose of Benedict Cumberbatch in The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses. If you’re looking for something a little more cheeky, Sacha Baron Cohen has you covered with the irreverent comedy, THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY. Of course, you could always get your geek on (callback!) with the first “rebooted” Doctor Who series on Blu-ray featuring Christopher Eccleston!

June 28

The final week in June delivers some serious comedy, starting with Jack Black in KUNG FU PANDA 3, which I hear makes HOUSE PARTY look like HOUSE PARTY 2! Tina Fey also works her charm in WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT, but if you’re looking for some classic laughs, you can get your hands on the Criterion Edition of Stanley Kubrick‘s DR. STRANGELOVE. If you’re feeling something more dramatic, feel free to devote some time to Alan Rickman‘s last onscreen role in EYE IN THE SKY. And if ALL THAT wasn’t enough…well, there’s always next month!
