Whedon in the Woods

Although geeklord Joss Whedon has been publicly discussing it since Comic Con of last year, his horror project CABIN IN THE WOODS is finally getting an official announcement.

Whedon (pictured in the Browncoat) co-wrote the script with Drew Goddard (CLOVERFIELD, TV's LOST and ALIAS), who will direct the MGM thriller about a spooky structure located somewhere in an undisclosed forest area. I presume, anyway -- they're not giving specifics, although Whedon tells MTV that "Itís got a harder and darker edge, but itís also got classic Whedon qualities. Itíll rip your heart out and be heartfelt at the same time."

As for Whedon's other projects, his "horror fantasy" GONERS is currently on the back burner, but his return to the airwaves of FIREFLY-hating Fox happens next year with DOLLHOUSE. More Dushku for you-shku!
Extra Tidbit: MTV's Whedon article is worth checking out, if only for the comments section where an aspiring writer who can't even be bothered to pirate a copy of Final Draft begs Whedon for a pitch meeting.

I'm a huge Whedon fan but strangely I haven't heard about this... and did he just use his own name as an adjective?

I'm a fan of various Whedon projects, but this post is only good for Ms. Acker.

The cherry is Amy Acker herself....

Anything with Whedon's name on it is great entertainment and the Dollhouse looks to have a lot of potential.

Whedon, good. Fox, not so much.

And, yeah, I'm going to rant here...

After Fox's back-to-back cancelations of Firefly, Keen Eddie and Wonderfalls (not to mention everything from Brisco County to Brimstone in earlier years), I vowed to stop watching Fox entirely...and only Summer Glau's presence in Terminator has made me break that vow.

Now, I'll have to trust 'em with Dollhouse too? Damn.

But, really, Fox's deliberate scuttling of Firefly was, by far, its biggest offense. Not only did they air the episodes

Now, I'll have to trust 'em with Dollhouse too? Damn.

But, really, Fox's deliberate scuttling of Firefly was, by far, its biggest offense. Not only did they air the episodes hopelessly out of sequence (they aired the pilot last!), but they also aired Firefly during their own broadcast of the World Series...which pre-empted many of Firefly's episodes to around midnight (and that was on the West Coast!).

And advertising Firefly as if it were a sit-com probably didn't help much, either. ("Hey, come on down an' meet the wild an' waaaaacky crew of Firefly! They got's them a space hooker! And a naked girl in a box!" Sigh.)

Also, the fact that Firefly's DVDs have been on Amazon's "Top Sellers" list almost continuously since their release almost FIVE YEARS AGO proves just how clueless Fox really is...hell, even as I write this, the DVDs are presently ranked #9 at Amazon!

And, at the end of '09, I'm fully expecting to be purchasing the "Complete Series" of Dollhouse (all 13 episodes) on DVD...

$#!+.

And I hope that Cabin fares better than Goners...or Wonder Woman.

#*@$ing suits.

Well, if it's Whedon, I'm there. I don't care if it's a live-action Cabbage-Patch Kids film, I'll still be first in line. Yes, I am a fanboy.
