Where are all these villains coming from in The Amazing Spider-Man 2? This picture might have something to do with it

Spider-man

The two films that have been getting a lot of grief recently for appearing to have an overabundance of characters are X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. While there are arguments for and against these films' giant casts I think it's something that we should start getting use to. Every comic book movie wants to emulate the success of THE AVENGERS and while cramming a bunch of superheros/villains together wasn't the only reason why THE AVENGERS was a hit, a lot of people see that as the primary factor in why the film was so well received.

Director Marc Webb tweeted this picture from the set of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 that gives us an idea of where villains Electro and Rhino may frequent (or more likely break out of) in the new film:

Most people consider Ravencroft Institute to be Marvel's version of Arkham Asylum. It has housed several Spidey villains before such as Carnage, Jackal, and Vulture. I wonder if the "voltage cells" have anything to do with Electro's transformation. I also wouldn't be surprised if they showed a villain in the prison as a tease for the third movie.

I know a lot of people dislike how many villains have been cast in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (and how the same thing is what helped kill SPIDER-MAN 3) but I think if Marc Webb can successfully manage the characters' stories it could work. One of the things I've always loved about Spider-Man in the comics is that he always has the cards stacked against him. He's a powerful guy but you throw something like the Sinister Six his way you know it's going to be a battle. So if Webb can work these villains in to make sure Spider-Man really gets his ass handed to him we could end up with a very good second effort.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is currently filming and is out May 2nd, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: How would you feel about a Sinister Six movie? THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 could hint at it and then the entire third movie could be the super villain team just wrecking Peter Parker's life.

Hope the villains don't walk into the room with hundreds of power granting spiders that are still alive...

Sounds cool. I don't mind the new version of Spiderman at all. The Amazing Spiderman was entertaining, albeit the origin story was a little excessive to sit through again. But regardless, all this casting will be worth it if they make the story work. That's what the problem was with Spiderman 3, not that they had too many characters jus that they didn't know what to do with all of them. I think it would be cool for Electro to be the big bad in this movie, by the end Electro teams up with

I think it would be cool for Electro to be the big bad in this movie, by the end Electro teams up with Rhino and maybe some other villains, relegate them to supporting roles only (like henchmen). In the third film, Osborn enlists them all into the Sinister 6 or something like that. And just go balls out for Spiderman 3

Loved Amazing Spider-Man. I'm a long-time Spidey fan from the comics, and it was the first time I felt like I was actually seeing Peter Parker / Spider-Man. Funny, quippy, intense anger problems, inability to quit, tendency to get the snot kicked out of him. Coming home with bruises, etc. Loved it.

Too many people forget that Spider-Man, in his original form, is an angry nerd who finally gets power, and struggles with it. He's a great guy, but like any great guy suddenly thrust into power,

He's a great guy, but like any great guy suddenly thrust into power, he has a hard time not abusing it. Loved the tone. My only real complaint was that the villain got relatively short shrift, however, it's a Spider-Man movie, not a Lizard movie. Besides, Lizard was barely ever more than "Jeckyl and Hyde WITH A TAIL!" so I really don't mind.

Plus any move that includes Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy has my vote.

I guess it would be cool to see the Ravencroft Institute in this.

I didn't hate The Amazing Spider Man. I just thought it could have been alot better for what they were going for. I am still giving this one potential to be good.

Amazing Spider Man was an awful movie. Didn't care for the characters, didn't care for the plot, nothing about it was impressive or necessary. Every scene felt rushed through and the only reason these movies seem to be getting made is to collect money.

Well, that is your opinion and frankly it isn't worth much. The movie was a fun well paced movie, far superior to any of the Raimi films.

Shonk - Agreed. Great flick. Hell even the webslinging was far superior to Raimi's - because half of it was practical effects.

Thanks for that! I don't know what kind of crack these two have been smoking but 'amazing spider man' was GOD AWFUL. And how dare you even mention them in the same breath as the Raimi movies (second is a modern masterpiece and the first isn't too well behind its sequel).

The CGI in the Raimi movies is really showing its age. It looks weird and fake and it takes me out of the movie. At the time, Spider-Man 2 was amazing, it's clearly the best of the 3.

Andrew Garfield just kind of annoyed me as Peter Parker. All the best parts seemed derived from the previous installments, giving us nothing that inspired. I didn't hate the movie. Far from it. I just didn't pack a punch. The only thing I find interesting about the sequel are the villains as I feel they have the best chance of injecting it with something really worth watching assuming it just follows the formula again.

This movies gonna be such a pile of $hit, I wouldn't be surprised to see Thomas F. Wilson's face in it. Eh? Eh?

Lots of badguys

The way we have been looking at superhero movies and bad guys in them is that you have a primary antagonist or 2 to challenge the hero in different ways which fits with most movie formulas. If you read comics, some bad guys aren't that powerful...see electro. They don't have a main role, but they can spice up the action and make for an easy and fun win for the main hero. Plus you get to see one in action. I'm not against this idea at all given that hollywood is getting better and better at
