Which projects could be next for director Todd Phillips?

Feb. 6, 2012by: Niki Stephens

Todd Phillips is about to be a busy guy. The director has been making films for Warner Bros. since 2004s STARSKY & HUTCH. Now the studio has made a deal with Phillips keeping him on the lot until the end of 2013. Right now, his Green Hat Films banner is working on a third installment of THE HANGOVER franchise and PROJECT X is due out on March 2nd.

There are four other projects in the pipeline for Green Hat Films. These could also be possible films for Phillips to direct. Here are the details:

* An adaptation of the Tony DSouza novel "Mule", about a young couple that turns to drug trafficking to scratch a living during the recession. Green Hats Phillips and Scott Budnick are producing with Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howells Electric City Entertainment. They are out to writers.

*"Arms and the Dudes", based on a Guy Lawson Rolling Stone article that chronicled the unlikely rise of two stoners in Miami Beach who became big-time arms dealers, and suddenly had it all taken away by the Pentagon. Phillips and Budnick produce with Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff. Stephen Chin (I Rock Iraq) is in talks to write it.

* THE ISLAND, a project scripted by Due Dates Adam Sztykiel from a story by Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas; the loglines being kept under wraps and Phillips will produce and Budnick exec producing.

* MILLION DOLLAR STRONG, a comedy based on the YouTube and FunnyOrDie web shorts by Mike OConnell and The Hangovers Ken Jeong. Phillips is producing with Budnick and Management 360 is exec producing. OConnell and Peter Kline (The Living Wake) are writing the script.

I bet if he were to cast Cooper, Helms, and Galifinakis in all of his upcoming films they would all make millions because people would think it would be more Hangover sequels.

I wouldn't mind seeing any one of those guys show up again in any of his future flicks.

A change of pace.

He should try his hand at comedy.

I think he is a great director. I have especially enjoyed both Hangover films, Old School, and Due Date.

I expect these films to have the same great quality and talent as his previous films.
