Which role already explored by Sam Raimi is currently casting for The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

I knew this day would come.  I understand why it's a more or less necessary evolution of the world and to the title character. I just wish Marc Webb and Sony could use their resources and time to explore aspects of Spidey's world left hitherto unaddressed in his movies.  I suppose we're sort of getting that with the rumored inclusion of Electro, but still...

Sandman? Again? Really?

Nah, I'm just messing.  No Sandman to be found in casting notices for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.  But Harry Osborn? Now that's a name you'll find.  And yes, for the record, my opening comments still apply here.  On the plus (and much more interesting) side of things, Harry's role and characterization has started to evolve over the course of the last months - originally it "called for a bigger, athletic actor," but has since been "reconfigured and now is targeting a more 'dark and edgy' actor." The words "dark and edgy" have been the go-to design motto for this new Spidey franchise, but they apply particularly well to the son of Norman Osborn.  Which leads us to the three actors currently testing for the role, though others may be brought into the mix as the role is still undergoing revision.

There's Dane DeHaan (CHRONICLE, LAWLESS), Brady Corbet (MELANCHOLIA, THUNDERBIRDS), and Alden Ehrenreich (TETRO, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES).  Production will have to start soon if Webb and Sony want to meet the already-set May 2nd, 2014 start date, so I expect we'll know the casting before long.  I personally hope that it's DeHaan, as he's a solid actor who could cover both necessary Harry Osborn bases - be a believable friend of Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, and then eventually become a disturbing foe fueled by rage and heartbreak.

Ignoring for a moment Harry's greater necessity to the storyline being pursued with Peter/Gwen/Mary Jane, how do you feel about the territory of that particular character being retread so soon?

Extra Tidbit: I guess this means we need a Norman Osborn too, huh?

How funny would it be if cast James Franco's little brother (forget his name) in this role.

I'm never sure if when I say I thought the movie was okay (all 4 of them)...it's just out of loyalty to a character whose comics I collected throughout my teenage life. Don't get me wrong...the movies have had great moments and I would have still watched all of them even if someone told me they were shite (heck, I've bought the DVD's, though mainly for the kids)...but none of them were particularly very good movies in general.

I'm not sure...but I've think I've lost interest with Spider-man

I'm not sure...but I've think I've lost interest with Spider-man and can't read stories like this without wishing that Marvel can find some way to get this character back. Of course, that would mean yet another reboot and whilst that failed horribly on the cartoon front when the brilliant Sony produced Spectacular, Spectacular Spiderman...was replaced with the crud that is Disney's Ultimate Spiderman, I'd take the risk...just to see him placed in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - it would certainly get me excited about the character again.

Seems a shame that throughout my teenage years I longed to see a Spider-man movie, having to make do with that nonsense of a 1970's series that had only one cool fight with those three Chinese dudes in the pilot to its name but now we've had 4 blockbuster movies and I feel like something is still missing.

I just had to reply on this one – you are right man. I think (especially for amazing spiderman) that people are just telling themselves they love it, when it’s not very good. I do like Spiderman 2 and most of spiderman 1, but so far the characters and stories are just not up to the standards I hold in my head for spiderman. Funny because I feel that he should be a very easy character to get right. PS – I loved the old 70s tv series – I own it on vhs!! But again, that was just cause it

I also wanted to chime in on this. I'm not telling myself I really liked the Amazing Spider-Man for the sake of it, I truly did. I loved The first Spider-Man when it came out, but in my opinion, they haven't held up over the years. There is a lot wrong with both incarnations, but what I find wrong with Raimis' I tend to find way more irritating. Every conversation with Aunt May feels fake and not even a little bit authentic, just a caricature of a nice old lady. And every time Tobey wines and

Every conversation with Aunt May feels fake and not even a little bit authentic, just a caricature of a nice old lady. And every time Tobey wines and cries and sheepishly says MJ..I want to scream. I could do without the MJ theatre stuff...(although the Bruce cameo cracks me up) or anything to do with MJ all together in those films. Didn't help that I found myself as attracted to Kirsten Dunst as I was to Tobey Maguire, which is not at all. MJ is supposed to be a smoke show, way out of Peter's league, Dunst wasn't anything of the sort. And not too mention her acting was subpar to say the least.

I think a closer, better interpretation of the character could have been had, if you lets say you take Spider-man 1 and sub in Amazing Spider-Man's cast (MINUS Garfields constant stuttering), update the script, less cheese and more wit, and the Green Goblin not looking like a power ranger.... I think that would be the closest.

I can see DeHaan if they choose to go the jealous route with Harry because of Peter having Gwen and Mary Jane in his life, and also Norman acknowledging Peter's success and putting Harry down, Alden though seems to already have a close look to Harry just needs some red highlights and I can see it.

The one I would root for is the one I don't know much about. Alden Ehenreich just looks the part. He's creepy yet charming at the same time. And he looks good in that suit.

ONLY THING

I'm fine with them casting Harry Osborn and Norman for that matter; doesnt bother me a bit...I do wish Andrew Garfields quirky acting will wind up the editing room floor this time. The scene that bothers me the most is the making web shooters scene; when he gets its right and is so amazed by the web he has a really bad cheesy moment. Should of been an outtake....funny but Webb should know better. Oh and much much more spiderman this time please!!

I find this interesting because if you watch even the first 5 minutes of the special features on the Amazing Spider-Man blu-ray, they say the stories have evolved over the course of time & thats why they decided to bring back Spidey so soon. Yet in this sequel you are already talking about bringing back Harry & Mary Jane & most likely the same villains from the 1st trilogy. Now how exactly is that keeping this new series of films fresh?

"Dark and edgy"? Does this mean we'll actually see the bit from JMS's ASM run where Norman Osborn knocks up Gwen behind Peter's back and she runs away to Paris to have her secret Goblin twins shortly before Osborn kills his secret-babies mama?

REALLY?!?!?!

I couldn't be more disappointed. Yes, it's waaaaay to soon to go back over the same ground already covered in Sam Raimi's series (which I thought was just horrible by the way). There are so many more villians out there that they could have Spidey go up against. And if they want to retread the same ground why not bring in Venom? Raimi's "SPIDER-MAN 3" didn't hardly do anything even worth mentioning with him!
I think they should bring in two villians for Spidey to fight and my picks would be

If you don't get what you want then think about why. Seriously, Carnage?

As long as they can make Andrew Garfield stop twitching 90% of the movie run time, any choice would do.
