White Girl's Elizabeth Wood rumored to be in talks to direct Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel Elizabeth Wood Banner

We should know who will be directing CAPTAIN MARVEL in the next month or so, but until then we'll have to make do with rumors and speculations.

The latest one comes from We Got This Covered, who is claiming that indie filmmaker Elizabeth Wood (WHITE GIRL) had a private meeting with Marvel representatives last week about possibly directing the studio's first female-led superhero movie. According to the site, it's believed that the meeting was set up by Wood's husband/producer Gabriel Nussbaum, who has worked with Wood on all of her professional projects.

There's no word on how the meeting went (if there actually was one, of course), but it does seem like Marvel is at least a little keen on hiring Wood to helm the planned comic book movie, and last month a rumor surfaced that the studio might also be eyeing Emily Carmichael to direct. If you had to pick between the two, who would you rather see behind the camera for CAPTAIN MARVEL: Wood or Carmichael?

CAPTAIN MARVEL is scheduled for a March 8, 2019 release.

Wow, I'm surprised that this is at 100%. I have no issues with this one at all (White Girl's getting strong reviews and Marvel's been on a role lately with their directors)

However, considering the kinds of responses these stories usually get, I'm like legitimately surprised that this thread isn't dominated by comments like:

"Her boobs are too small."
"Dude, she's not even playing Captain Marvel, she's just directing it."
"I don't care, her boobs are too small."

Noooooo!

This should be directed by The Wachowskis. They're both chicks now, so it's fine.

Speed Racer and Captain Marvel? Nah. Speed Racer and Guardians of the Galaxy, though? Now, I'd pay good money to see that.

My thoughts

I don't know this lady at all and never heard of her movie so have zero opinion.

However, Marvel should be using their One-Shot shorts as a breading/testing ground for young writers and directors. And they should go out of their way to make the experience as difficult and stressful as possible. Make them the Kobayashi Maru of filmaking. Shave days off the schedule 24 hours before you start filming. "Forget" to pay location fees and get thrown off the set. Demand nonsensical reshoots the

Change the color-grading for no fucking reason at all on a day they aren't there. Have the producer show up drunk and scream insults at cast and crew.

Whoever manages to not quit and still keep their sanity, will handle a $200 million dollar movie.

2 things
1. No Emily Blunt - shes not that good, she did well in edge of tomorrow because she was Tom Cruises back up and she sucked in Sicario.
2. Go get Jon Favreau to direct this movie. He is proven and does it really need to be a woman director because shes a woman super hero? Just like it needed to be a black Director for Black Panther - so dumb, get the best director not the one that is racially profiled.

I'm with you on Blunt, but she's not the worst choice I've seen. Someone was dropping the hit that Chloe Moretz was in the running for the role. That is possibly the worst idea I've seen (dumber than the recent Lex Luthor debacle). Hopefully whoever is in charge of this, they pick an actress based on how good she would be as the character and not how she's trending on Twitter.

Everyone is always complaining that actors and actresses are just picked because the are the flavour, now I want to see someone who is busty in a role of a character who is busty and people think facepalm? Seriously?

You've obviously never read a comic book.

If we cast actors to be anatomically correct with the comics, we should restrict our search to actors that have the feet of a 3-year-old child.

This whole hiring directors based on race and gender related to the characters is getting old. Just hire the right person for the job

Exactly. Anthony Mackie said it perfectly, "you wouldn't hire a horse to direct Seabiscuit." If Elizabeth Wood is the right person for the job, then great. But this reeks of her being hired based on gender. Same goes for Ryan Coogler with Black Panther. Nobody is denying Coogler is a very talented director and will probably do great things in the MCU, but was he hired for THAT movie because of his race? Sure seems like it. Same goes for Patty Jenkins with Wonder Woman.

I think Patty Jenkins was hired because she had already been in contention for another superhero movie (Thor 2). And she's a woman. Same goes for Ryan Coogler. He's black, but also a good director. If he was a shitty director, he would not have been given the reins. We live in a time when the idea is, if you hire people from diverse backgrounds, it will inspire more people with more diverse experiences to become directors. It's not to be PC, but inclusive. I can't vouch for Patty Jenkins'

I can't vouch for Patty Jenkins' ability with action, but the Russo brothers were mostly known for doing TV comedy prior to Winter Soldier. Elizabeth Wood, I don't know her, so can't comment at all there.

I'm going to give them a break on Coogler for BP. Not only is it a movie that will predominantly have a black cast (assuming it stays in Wakanda), but it's a movie that takes place in Africa with African civilization. It really seems tacky to have that done by some white guy from Los Angeles.

But the idea of Marvel having to be a woman is stupid. If it turns out that way, great, but I certainly hope they're not choosing men for all the other superhero films because it's almost entirely
