Who is currently testing for Josh Trank's Fantastic Four?

Oct. 9, 2013by:

Man, they're going fairly young with the cast for the reboot of FANTASTIC FOUR. Currently a slew of actors are being brought in to test for each member of the team, expect for The thing. Terry Crews is available for the part by the way. He's definitely not as young as the actors being considered but he is interested.

That aside, here is who will be testing for which role:

Mr. Fantastic: Kit Harington(GAME OF THRONES), Miles Teller(THE SPECTACULAR NOW), Jack O’Connell(300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE)

Sue Storm: Kate Mara, Saoirse Ronan, Margot Robbie(THE WOLF OF WALL STREET)

Johnny Storm: Michael B. Jordan

The Thing: ???

Before you go into full on panic mode, just remember that these are early tests. The movie hasn't even been greenlit yet but will be as soon as writer Simon Kinberg whips up something worth casting. Then they'll start to get serious about locking down actors, checking schedules, etc.

Jordan is the only actor being mentioned to play the Human Torch though it is said that this may change. It's likely that O'Connell won't be able to take part in the film because around the same time he will be filming UNBROKEN for helmer Angelina Jolie.

Are any of these actors right for the roles?

uuuuuuugghhh... why is it so hard to get the ff even remotely right?

if these are their casting options, the movie is pretty fucked. kit and mara are great, but not ff material and likely wouldn't be chosen anyway. and how are they going to explain white chick sue being the sister of black dude johnny? and wtf, anyway? "we gotta include a black guy in the cast to attract the black community" is fucking racist.

This sounds fucking horrible!!

Aside from kit Harrington and Kate Mara, these are all bad choices. But Kit Harrington should be focusing on upcoming seasons of Game of Thrones, not starring in movies. And Kate Mara needs to get back to making more House of Cards. Everyone else on the list can piss off.

Ultimate

I don't know why anyone would complain about a younger Fantastic 4.

I recently read all of Ultimate Fantastic 4 and it was miles better than any FF4 related in the 616 universe (where they are older).

The origin story makes way more sense in Ultimate, and the characters are much more likeable. Previous to reading Ultimate, I was completely indifferent to Ben Grimm (the Thing), now he's easily in my top 5 Marvel characters.

They already tried a movie with an older team, and it sucked.

Absolutely nothing, so far, gives me hope that this'll be any better than the first go 'round.

Can't wait for Marvel/Disney to get this back where it belongs.

So Reed Richards is going to be going very prematurely grey at the sides? At least he has the whole genius/hot wife thing to console him.
Reed needs to be a voice of authority to contrast Johnny Storm's excitable douche and Ben Grimm's loveable bruiser. Make him too young and it'll be a tough sell.

At least the last few movies had people who looked like adults.

These are all hipster looking douchbags. Michael B. Jordan is an interesting choice but everyone else is too young, too hipsterish and just not right for the roles. This is going to be a bigger failure than rise of silver surfer. Also, I am all for Ben Affleck as Batman, I think he will play it very similarly to Michael Keaton.

I'm not a fan of the FF so on the one hand, it doesn't bother me what happens here...on the other hand I am a comic book fan and it bothers me when a comic book movie doesn't do well...so dunno. The first two movies were lame but I had no problem with the casting of Johnny Storm and the Thing and their banter was spot on. The guy playing Mr Fantastic was boring...and I know lots of people hated Jessica Alba as Sue ...but I got a thing for her...and let it go to the point that the casting was

At the end...the story on both occasions, like Green Lantern... was no fun at all. By the way I hate it when very cool moments (like the Silver Surfer chase scene) are wasted in poor movies. That scene deserved a superior movie.

Setting themselves up for an even bigger failure...

There's not one casting choice there that I like, this has disaster written all over it. Fox isn't putting any of the effort intto this like they are with the X-Men, which is sad because The Fantastic Four deserve to have a movie on par with Marvels/Disneys recent releases.

I'm usually quite open to most casting rumours (I'm perfectly open to Affleck being Batman for example) often going with a "wait and see" approach.

But I have to say - whether these actors are good or not - they're all way too young for these roles. Especially if they're going to crossing over with X-Men at some point.

Whilst he's way too old now - I always used to think Pierce Brosnan would've made a good Mr Fantastic... Now though? Not sure if I have any immediate choices to be fair -

As for Jordan being Johnny Storm- I'm okay with it IF Sue is black too. They're siblings - if you're going to change their ethnicity it's both or neither.

As for Saoirse Ronan... I think you can put her name alongside Jordan and Benedict Cumberbatch in the "literally up for every movie" list.

Such a shame MARVEL didn't get the rights back.

Saoirse is a mind-bogglingly talented actress, but to an extent, Sue Storm is Team Mom. She keeps it all together...basically, "younger" isn't how they should skew. If they must have a teen on the team, maybe a bratty Johnny, but not Sue, Richard or Ben.

Before people go off on us all for being "racist" about not wanting a black actor as Torch, where were all the calls for gender swapping post feminist movement? Oh thats right, they wrote new books and new scripts and made strong female characters

"us all"? you're the one who zeroed in on race. Everyone else is primarily talking age (with minor race gripes tossed in). Stop speaking for "us all".

also, you have no clue what your talking about when you say what "they" did. By your logic a wonder woman movie is inevitable AND will be written and directed by a woman (that's the "they" right?). She's more famous than Ant Man and Green Lantern... yet no movie.

The Young and the Fantastic.

If you think about the core cast of the first two films, the only one who really, really didn't fit was Jessica Alba. Ioan Gruffud is not a good actor but at least he looked the part.

Ummm......

Dear Lord no! I'd be fine with Jordan playing Torch if they're casting a black actress as Sue. I guess you could make them adopted siblings or even foster siblings, but why complicate it? They're brother sister plain & simple. I personally think that we need more superheroes of color, but why change the race of an established character? Why not just do a movie about a black superhero? Or a hispanic superhero? Etc. Granted, it has worked well with Nick Fury in the movies, but do other studios

This is how it works...

Movie Exec: "People like Kate Mara and Saoirse Ronan. If we put one of them in a movie, people will pay $10 a ticket just to see it. $13 if the movie is in 3D!"

Someone Else: "Okay, but are either of those actresses right for the part of Sue Storm?"

Movie Exec: "Who?"

sad but true. even more sad, movie execs have good reason to be like this. i think one of the reasons why Pacific Rim struggled domestically is because American audiences were like "starring Charlie... Hun.. who? oh, he's on that tv show? i think i'll pass." it did amazing internationally because it's an awesome movie and international audiences are less likely to care which white guy is playing the main white guy.

Actually the article only says that the actors for Reed and Sue have been offered tests

It just says that Jordan's name has been "mentioned", not that he'll be testing for the part. Also, it says that Robbie won't be testing after all, my guess is because she nabbed the female lead in David Yates' Tarzan movie.

Although I'm not a fan of most of these options (if you HAVE to have a 20 something Reed Richards you could do a lot worse than Harrington) I'm not worried. Kinberg is rewriting the script and the Variety article says that the studio is "hoping" to begin production by

Kinberg is rewriting the script and the Variety article says that the studio is "hoping" to begin production by the end of Q1 2014, or in other words they're hoping to begin production in about six months but it could very well be even longer. That pretty means that this is all just fluff, most of these actors probably won't even test for the roles because their schedules will be totally different in 6 months. Its simply a way for the studio to release "a story" about the film to build awareness around it without them actually having to do anything.

I'm gonna go right ahead and say it...

Its to the point where if a new 'Marvel' movie isn't tied into the Marvelverse...I'm not interested. Fantastic Four, Amazing Spiderman, etc. etc. .... they're all megabudget scabs to me. 'Til the movie rights to all these franchises are back where they belong...I'm going to pass.

And its important because I think the Marvelverse needs some of these characters. How would the Avengers, SHIELD et al react to the rise of mutants? And in a continuity dominated by demigods, billionaires, and

And in a continuity dominated by demigods, billionaires, and trained supersoldiers...how would a young kid who moonlights fighting New York street crime fit in?

Granted, I'm going to see the next 'X-Men' flick because that franchise predates the Marvelverse by nearly a decade. But still...there's no chance of seeing Wolverine join the Avengers or Storm getting hitched to Black Panther.

Remember the True Marvel Label. 'Nuff Said.

How about a BIG FUCK NO to all of these choices. Especially Jordan as Human Torch. Johnny Storm is White, not African American. Enough with this changing an established characters ethnicity already.

There are so many other better choices out there for all of these roles. And I understand going the young route, but I want an older, more established cast.

No to all.

Overall, I'm not happy with these picks. Especially Michael B. Jordan for Human Torch and ALL of the girls being looked at for Sue. The only one I could see potentially pulling it off is Mara, but even that is a stretch. Fox, for the love of God, pick up a comic before you make your movies!

None of these people will get the part.

I remember when the news broke of actors testing to be the new Batman (Brolin, Armitage, about 5 others). Then a couple weeks later out of no where, it's Ben Affleck. So I take all these superhero casting rumors with a grain of salt now. Odds are none of these people get the part.
