Since 2005 was so long ago, Regency Enterprises wants to reboot MR. AND MRS. SMITH, but with different actors and a new title, MR. AND MRS. JONES.

Most of you remember the the plot of SMITH, a couple (Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie) with a fading marriage are surprised to find out that they are contracted to kill one another. At first, the deal sounds intriguing, but as they venture through their journey they realize that they do belong together.

During filming, something seemed to grab more attention than the actual movie itself. If you read any of the gossip rags at the time, there were rumors that Jolie and Pitt were hooking up. Only problem with this scenario was the fact that Jennifer Aniston was still married to Pitt, even though they were in the process of getting a divorce. The press had a field day with this saying that this was the reason the marriage was ending, etcetera, etcetera...you should know all about it by now.

The source for Vulture jokes that the rumored fallout of the Pitt-Jolie marriage might be the reason for the new cast in the sequel reboot. The real reason though is economic. They want to pay less for the actors. Even though the last name is changed in the sequel's title, they figure people will already be familiar with the original title and story of the movie so in turn they might might go see a sequel reboot.

JONES will serve as an origin story about a similar but differently named pair of twentysomethings. The two spies are set up as a fake married couple when they graduate agency trading. Akiva Goldsman (I AM LEGEND, HANCOCK) is set to produce.

Would you still consider this a reboot, even with the change of the last name in the title and younger actors? Give your thoughts in the strike backs!

I wouldn't even knwo what the hell to call this. It's not a reboot and certainly not a sequel, prequel, remake or a spinoff. We'll have to make up a new word, people, even though the fist still sucked dick.

The only thing that sold Mr. and Mrs. Smith were the actors combined with the tabloids. No one cared about the story and no one's going to care about the remake.

This could work, depending on the casting. It's not a reboot, it's a continuation of a series. Think outside the box here, people.

This seems like such a random movie to reboot...I mean, wtf? At this point, are they just spinning a wheel with all the movies from the last 10 years?

*spin*

"Oh, looks like we're rebooting V For Vendetta! Everybody get to work!"

Whats up with Hollywood?! The original was great because of Pitt and Jolie, and if memory serves me correct it was pretty successful in theaters, making plenty of money. Who cares if it costs more for the two. The bottom line is that if they "reboot" it they will most likely make less money in the box office, and if they don't reboot it they will make more money balancing out the "money issues"

So funny how you nerds still find the energy to rant about all the rebooting and sequeling. IT WILL NEVER STOP! So live with it. And by the way. Mr and Mrs Smith sucked and so did Hancock. So I don't care at all for this "franchise".

Let's reboot "Avatar" while were at it!
It's unbelievable but let's reboot films while they're still in theaters too! Better yet, let's redo "Edge of Darkness" because it won't make back it's budget ($80 Million) @ least here in the states! Might as well re-boot "Alice in Wonderland" just in case it doesn't do well. (I'm sure it will) Soon we will have "Spider-man" Version 1 coming out the same time as "Spider-Man" Version 2! I...

What the hell? It's a friggin' reboot infestation in Hollywood. Enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!! But hey, lets face it, the main reason MR & MRS SMITH was such a big hit was because of the then-rumors of Pitt & Jolie's relationship which didn't become official until AFTER the film came out. If Pitt/Jolie did a sequel, the tabloid machine would be so damning it would cause the sequel to tank...

If Pitt/Jolie did a sequel, the tabloid machine would be so damning it would cause the sequel to tank right out the box-office. So in this case, perhaps a reboot is the best solution to this could-have-been franchise.

2005? Yeah, we need to update that. That's from another decade! They were probably swinging clubs and rubbing shiat in their hair back then. And who the hell remembers who Brad Pratt or Angela Jolly are?

Now that I think of it, are they ever going to remake that Avatar movie? It's been out for 2 months now. They didn't even have iPads back then. Sheesh....

I, Robot is the shit. Besides, Akiva just did some rewrites on it. Jeff Vintar wrote the majority of the screenplay & has story credit. I do agree with you that B&R was horrible.

The title sounds like it would a horrible spoof of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Not that I care, only the first half of the movie was any good. Stopped caring when they stopped trying to kill each and starting killing whoever those people were. It's never a good sign when your audience starts falling asleep mid-shootout.

My guess is this was a badly covered news by Vulture that was posted here. Probably not a reboot or a sequel but an entirely different movie altogether

The names are different, the characters are different and the plot will be different.

The studios are probably just giving this project a similar title to hook people in, but they are unrelated movies. As unrelated...

Smith: A couple of spies from opposite agencies get married without knowing about each others real jobs
Jones: A couple of spies get set up in a fake marriage after they graduate from spy training.
That's very different. Similar theme love/spy, but very different plot. Reminds more of the Tv series "Once a Thief" than "Mir & Mrs Smith"

Vulture called it a reboot. Everyone else is following suit. I'd say the only reason they are calling it a "reboot" is because it's the same plot. But otherwise they have no leg to stand on. That's why I was asking the question, "Is this really a reboot?" Unless Vulture has their shit all mixed up.

With the attention spans of moviegoers today, they probably have forgotten 2005 already. I'm sure they'll get Channing Tatum and Rihanna. Brett Ratner will be in the director's chair. Millions will see it. Put this and the Valentine's Day sequel out on the same weekend and count the idiots that line up.
