Why I Love Movies - Chapter XI

06.27.2014

Why do I love movies? Well, that is a loaded question. How much time do you have? I could go into a long-winded diatribe about the art of film-making or the magic of the movies, but all of that has been said countless times before. Not every movie is a masterpiece, but every film has touched me in one way or another. Every other week, we will look at a handful of reasons why movies are so damn great..

CHAPTER XI

I love movies...

Because of "Elmo" in I LOVE YOU MAN

Because of Paul Newman's sunglasses in THE COLOR OF MONEY.

Because of the INCEPTION BRRRRRRRAAAAAWWWWRWRRRMRMRMMRMRMMMMM!

Because of Jessica Rabbit's seduction of Eddie Valiant in WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?

Because of Tim Curry as Darkness in LEGEND.

Because of Kevin Spacey. Period.

Because of the dinner scene from Julie Taymor's TITUS.

Because of Jean-Claude Van Damme's suit in NO RETREAT, NO SURRENDER.

Because of stadium seating in movie theaters.

Because of Fred Ward in CAST A DEADLY SPELL.

Because of Christina Ricci in Woody Allen's ANYTHING ELSE.

Because of Mondo Movie Posters.

Because of the blatant ALIEN/BLADE RUNNER rip-off that is SPLIT SECOND.

Because of what Marcellus Wallace looks like.

Because of the LORD OF THE RINGS Extended Editions.

Because of Arnold Schwarzenegger losing his shit in KINDERGARTEN COP.

Because of Ed Harris in APOLLO 13.

Because of the worm in SECRETARY.

Because of the dinner scene from HOOK.

Because of this guy sweeping air in QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

Stay tuned every other week for more reasons Why I Love Movies! In the meantime, we WANT TO HEAR YOUR OWN REASONS below!!

Because of Eli Wallach!

Seriously, why hasn't anyone done a write-up on the guy and his passing yet? Or is he going to be the next Good the Bad and the Badass (Hey! That sounds suspiciously like a movie he was in!)?

I love movies because of Hugh Jackman's parting words to Silver Samurai in The Wolverine:

"You wanted me to say goodbye...sayonara!"

H.B. Toby Halicki's the original Gone in 60 Seconds. The guy is still very underrated. RIP Car Crash King.
The ending of Brian DePalma's Blow Out.
The entire movie of Brian DePalma's Dressed To Kill.
The moment when Kevin Costner counts down and then Andy Garcia shot the bad guy who hold the accountant hostage in the train station in The Untouchables.
When The Joker said "Come on, you gruesome son of a bit**" as Batman swooped Batwing down on him in Batman.

There's a bunch of good ones in there. That scene from Untouchables is so badass and I love any mention of 1989 Batman.

I actually just purchased IT on ebay for like 4 bucks because I've been wanting to see it again, it's been 24 years!

Thanks, Thunderdome. About IT, Oh Man! As a grown man nowadays, that movie still scares me. Very much thanks to Tim Curry for terrifying millions of 80s kid.

Yup I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I haven't seen it since they originally aired it back in '90 I believe :)
