Wicked and trippy trailer for The Congress starring Robin Wright and Harvey Keitel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The first international trailer for THE CONGRESS, starring Robin Wright, Harvey Keitel, Danny Huston, Paul Giamatti, and Kodi Smit-McPhee has arrived and it's an odd, trippy, and wicked looking affair. Written and directed by Ari Folman, who did the brilliant documentary WALTZ WITH BASHIR, which was equally trippy in that it used animation to recount a tale of war. Now, Folman is adapting SOLARIS author Stanislaw Lem's novel The Futurological Congress to the big screen with a compelling twist by utilizing actress Robin Wright as herself in a fictional tale.

It looks like a terrific and wild blend of live-action and animation and it's likely it will pluck many of the sci-fi thematic elements from Lem's novel and fit them nicely into Wright's angle of the story. This is cool-looking stuff for sure.

Here's the brief synopsis:

An aging, out-of-work actress accepts one last job, though the consequences of her decision affect her in ways she didn't consider.

I really enjoyed WALTZ WITH BASHIR and recommend it to fans of animation (and documentaries). Folman has a very distinct style and vision for filmmaking and it's a welcome voice to be sure. This will be an acid trip of fun, no doubt, and I look forward to catching it.

THE CONGRESS will play this month at Cannes with a release date TBD.
