Will Black Widow get her own spin-off after The Avengers?

09.22.2010

Did you enjoy IRON MAN 2? I guess what really matters here is if you liked Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.

Well, did you?

If you enjoyed Johansson in her tight black outfit, then it sounds like you might get more of it.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige threw out a "definitely possible" awhile back when the possibility of a solo Black Widow movie was brought up. Now the subject has come up again with the release of the IRON MAN 2 Blu-ray. SuperHeroHype did a Q&A with Feige who provided another small insight.

"We've already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts, but "The Avengers" comes first," replied Feige when asked if the subject came up again. There were no other details as Feige made it clear that Widow was not the first priority.

It's possible that Widow's relationship with Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will have a part in her possible solo movie. There's rumor that the relationship will also show up in THE AVENGERS film as well. I never closely followed Black Widow's story in the comics, as she never appealed much to me. I was more of a Jean Grey/Rogue fan when it came to Marvel women.

Would you guys be up for a solo Black Widow film?

Extra Tidbit: This might be really hard, but which female character in the Marvel universe would you say has the best storyline?

well, at first they could do her right : In the movie, she has her bracelets (they contain weapons in the comics) but in the movie they seem to be here just for the look... Still, a backstory movie could be nice!

Of course she will...along with every other character if this movie turns a profit.

No scarjo

I wouldn't mind a Black Widow flick as long as it wasn't Johansson. She wasn't horrible as Natasha in Iron Man 2 but she just isn't the Black Widow. I'd prefer someone like Olga Kurylenko to fill in the skin-tight jumpsuit.

Hmmm

As long as they go with her being a Russian spy, then defecting (a la her origins) and then maybe have a twist where she's actually a Russian spy pretending to have defected, then has to go on the run to prove her innocence, and demonstrating her ability to fly down elevator shafts, driving cars off of bridges and crashing, without wearing a seatbelt, and coming away unscathed.. Well, then this could be a solid female lead spy adventure!!
Oh, wait, hang on a min....

In all honesty, there

In all honesty, there is only one female superhero I want a solo film on, and that's Power Girl!! I mean, have you seen her costume???

I would watch her in anything. Though I'd like to see her back in more roles like Ghost World and Lost In Translation.

Okay

As an Avengers spinoff, no, but I would like to see some of the back story between Captain America and the Avengers filled in. Don't forget that Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. will be introduced in Captain America but Nick Fury, the Black Widow and Hawkeye won't even have been born back then. So you pick up the story with the Black Widow being recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. and trained by Hawkeye to become an agent. It's like a cooler version of Nikita.

Nick Fury was given the Infinity Formula once upon a time and was alive during WW2 and will be featured in Cap Am. Just sayin.

I actually enjoyed electra, as long as I reminded myself that it had nothing to do with the electra from the daredevil comics. But I don't think there much need for a black widow movie. Liked Iron man 2 (not nearly as much as the first) but the black widow added nothing to the movie for me.

tidbit...

I would say Ororo Munroe, Wanda Maximoff, Jean Grey, Lilandra Neramani, Emma Frost, Mary Jane, and Aunt May....in no particular order. Oh yeah, and one of my all time favs is Medusa from The Inhumans.

Black Widow was one of the better parts of Iron Man 2. It was a solid flick, and she did a great job with the part. I'm not really interested in her own movie, but if Jeremy Renner was in it the I'd definitely be down for it. If not, then I'd say no. I think she works alot better as a supporting character.

It might work, if Emily Blunt got therole, as she was supposed to. I can't complain about the way Scarlett filled out the suit, but come on, she looks about as dangerous as a pink poodle. A whole movie with her pretending to be fierce and deadly could end up as ridiculous as Berry being Catwoman.

The 2 worst comic book movies ever were ones that contained female leads, and were spin-offs from other films: Catwoman and Electra. I've never seen Supergirl, but I've never really heard anything good about it. I liked Iron Man 2, but Black Widow is not really a character I want to see a whole film on. I say, after a decade has passed from Nolan's last batman film, maybe make a Batwoman film (in a universe separate from Nolan's and Shumachers).

Ohh---kaayy.....

You know, in all honestly, and as much as I like seeing Scarlett in a tight, black, suit....never once have I said to myself "Hey, I'd like to see a solo Black Widow movie." Nope. Never. Actually right now all I'm thinking is..."Oh God...I smell another Elektra coming our way." Okay so maybe it won't be that bad but really, let's just not do this, okay Marvel?

YES! You said it perfectly, especially with the Elektra comment. Marvel brutally massacred the Elektra franchise.

While she can't her own movie for obvious reasons, it would have to be Jean Grey. Her story is just so detailed and deep. Being an unstable mutant as a child, being found by Xavier and leading the X-Men, and her transformation into the Phoenix force. I think she deserves recognition as the most powerful Marvel woman....

...as for ScarJo as Black Widow again. I'm down for it but not sure if a film on her would be interesting enough. Then again I never read Black Widow's comics or storyline so

I agree with you, but to do it right they MUST use Famke Janssen. Unless of course it's a through back movie towards the pre Dark Phoenix era.

Most actions movies starring females nowadays typically suck donkey dick.. and I think this can turn that around. While she's nowhere near the league of Ripley, Sarah Connor or The Bride; I think this has some potential.

I'd go see it just for the fact that ScarJo was gorgeous in Iron Man 2. If it happened to have a good story, that would just be a bonus.

This isn't going to be good. Firstly because superhero movies about superheroines typically stink, Black Widow doesn't have enough name or brand recognition to make a major franchise, and movies about superheroines do not make much money at all. Hell the only reason the "Tomb Raider" movies were as big as they were was because Jolie became bigger than the character of Lara Croft. This is going to fail, bad idea all around.

-4? this man speaks the truth. id say maybe 5% of action movies headlined by a female have been good, and most of hte superhero chick flicks have been garbage, this will be no different. I'll just look at screencaps of her ass online instead of sitting through a crappy movie.

Agreed. Why? Because the movie would never be about telling a good story about an interesting character, and would just be an excuse to have a pretty lady prance around in a tight suit. That's pretty much why every single lady focused action movie sucks.

I think a good superhero movie can be made with a female lead but it's not gonna be in a Black Widow movie. At best it'll be like Tomb Raider which isn't saying much, and at worst it'll be another Catwoman or Elektra. That's why I say just make a S.H.I.E.L.D movie, they can still give a lot of backstory and character development on Widow but the whole movie doesn't rest on her shoulders.

WHATS WITH ALL THE IRON MAN 2 HATE?

So it wasn't The Dark Knight level movie people were expecting but it was a solid movie for the most part. I had some minor issues with it myself but it's not a disaster by any means, it's not mind blowingly great but it's still a decent movie. As for a Black Widow movie why not just make a S.H.I.E.L.D movie with Black Widow, Nick Fury and Dum Dum Dugan with HYDRA as the main villians.

I think the problem is that nobody wanted a decent Iron Man movie that you forgot about when you walked out of the theater... especially because of the enormous potential the first one set-up.

I'm just saying that because it didn't blow your mind and give you an orgasm doesn't make it a bad movie. I admit my expectations were high too and while it wasn't all that I expected it to be it wasn't anywhere near WOLVERINE or (shudders) Batman & Robin bad. It's a solid movie and very entertaining.
